Bellozo has combined a 18% GB rate and a 3.2% HR/FB rate into a reasonable 3.50 ERA this year but he has 14 Ks and 10 BBs in 18 innings and no one who has pitched more than 50 innings in the last 15 years has had such a low HR/FB rate and so he is bad and we should take walks and hit dongs and not have to rely on whether we're getting good Brown.

Cards have won 9 in a row and are just 1 game back and have had better pitching than us so far  What's going on in St Louis?

I think it's more 6 of those 9 have been against the Pirates and Nationals. Let's see how they come out of 2 more at the Phillies (Luzardo and Nola), 3 at the Royals, followed by the Tigers and Diamondbacks at home.

6 everyday hitters are hitting above average and they have the best defense in the league which plays behind a pitch-to-contact staff that does not give up dongs

The Cubs have played 35 games against teams over .500; the Cardinals have played 20

What are the chances Moises is here simply to backup C while Amaya or Kelly take the DH PAs?

Hopefully, zero. 🤷

It’s baseball. Baseball is a stupid game. Even bad teams get hot for a week or two. Cardinals might not be a bad team, but they are not good either. They will cool off. They also have beaten bad teams in 6 of those 9 games. Still have to give them credit for that. Going 6-0 against bad teams when you are only an average team deserves some credit. But as all of us have seen throughout the years, teams go on streaks. They are in one. Nothing more to it. The schedule gets harder for them now. I expect the Cubs to be up by 4 games on them by the time we see them.

Ballesteros is an interesting prospect. There is little doubt in my mind that the kid will hit, but where do you play a 5’8” slow footed player who is a below average defensive catcher?

I think that only becomes a concern when Happ returns from the IL.  Without Happ, Seiya will slide into LF and Ballesteros into DH and you continue to platoon Kelly and Amaya and maybe swap them out with Ballesteros here and there to give them breaks.

When Happ comes back then you've got a problem with 3 catchers that are capable at the plate and worthy of playing time and Seiya slides back into full time DH

Yeah that's what I assume is the case. Ballesteros and Kelly and Amaya split DH and catcher duties the next week and then Ballesteros goes back down when Happ is ready, barring another injury.

And to someone else's point, Ballesteros is not coming up to ride the bench.

Cubs twitter not posting the lineup yet

I'm not sure why the entire lineup isn't out yet -

Definitely late in the day to have no lineup

DH and 3rd catcher, maybe even 1B
