Of course I don't know better than them.  I just don't see any way that Jed gives up what the reported asking price is for Tucker, knowing he's a rental.

If it’s Seiya AND Paredes, maybe. But this hasn’t gone this far down the road if they weren’t super close. There’s a lot of moving parts. Including the Bellinger side. Jed has to figure out if he will need to keep Belli. Trade Belli first. Will he need Warren for Belli to add to the Tucker deal? Just so much going on here that we can’t even grasp I would imagine.

But you're saying over and over again you don't think the Cubs will trade for Tucker. When everyone else is saying they think they will. That's saying you know better.

So please answer this.  Do you think they will trade for him and let him walk as a FA?  Just a simple yes or no.

You are pretty damn sharp.  So just like me, and every other poster on here, we have an opinion.  What's going to happen?

Cubs trade for Tucker and extend him

Cubs trade for Tucker and don't extend him

Cubs don't trade for Tucker

*If* hypothetically the deal involves Paredes and Shaw, where do the Cubs turn for 3B next season? Busch and go after Alonso to play 1st? Keep Belli and move Busch to 3rd? Possibly Bregman? Just curious what y’all’s thoughts are.

In the same way that it would put us in a pickle trading away the top two 3Bs in our system…you’d have to think the astros would pause at trading for a ML third baseman with three years of control and then also an essentially ML-ready 3B/2B (altuve has basically a lifetime deal). Generally you just want the best player, but smith makes a lot more sense for them to be the 3B of the future.

That's not a simple yes and no answer. So here's my answer:

I think the Cubs are seriously pursuing Kyle Tucker because they will seriously attempt to sign him to a market value contract. They cannot put a gun to his head and force him to sign anything, so there's a chance he may walk in FA. But I very much believe that the Cubs are earnest in both pursuing him in trade and then will be in attempt to sign him.

I agree with this.  I just don't think it will happen.

Also, I edited my post to you, asking you what you think will happen.  There's 3 options.

My answer is no different. I do think the Cubs are serious about Kyle Tucker. And I think they're serious about eventually sitting down with him and going north of $35m AAV for 10 years.

Hahahaha...I also think the exact same way that you do.  I just don't think anything will happen.

Especially looking at how sad their Tucker-less outfield is Paredes + Smith would feel like a real wasted opportunity for them.

One outfielder, one 3B, and one SP feels like it has to be what's going their way. And there's a ton of permutations to haggle through.

I'm almost certain he broke something last offseason but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.  He was getting heat at the time but was proven correct.

Belli bombs in NY?

Yeah in my Twitter app the last emoji was much more clearly the statue of liberty than it appears when I post it here.

Seems he should have the eyeballs and bell switched. This is saying eyes bell bombs in New York City. Therefore, he shall feel disgraced and be discredited.

I see it as, "I see Belli bombs in NY."

y...you think 2 full days of being consumed by a trade rumor is bad?  May I submit for your viewing pleasure:

Yes I am old enough to remember the Brian Roberts fiasco.

AND the "Jake Peavy singing Go Cubs Go in a bar" story. One of these days Peavy will be a Cub. Matter of time!

Our hypothetical teams in the 2000s were great!

Yeah I don't think this gets notably lengthy unless/until we hit Monday

That said I think most of the prolonged will it/won't it sagas during the Theo/Hoyer era have eventually reached the finish line?  Darvish, Swanson, Bellinger.  I think trading KB to the Braves post grievance is the big one that never materialized.
