5 outs away from the WS seems like the worse to me

Number one and not even close, sure they got up 2-0 in '84, but, we're never 5 outs from a trip to the WS.

I wasn’t alive yet but the ‘69 Cubs is probably at #2 with the ‘84 Cubs an easy #1. Went to SD only needing to win 1 of 3 to go to the WS.

I wasn't old enough to remember 1984 so that doesn't sting for me as much, but looking back on it, definitely seems like a painful situation especially with the Cubs tying it in Game 4 late and the Padres getting the walk-off HR by Garvey, then the Durham grounder with a lead in the 7th inning.  I always rationalized that we would have been waxed by the Tigers anyways.

No just 8 outs away (albeit with a 1 run lead, not 3 like in 2003)

It is kind of funny to imagine how things would change should the Bears manage to win on Sunday.  Given how desperate we are to beat the Packers, how badly the coaching staff needs a win, etc.  It could have just as much of a morale boost as the hail mary was a blow to morale.

This BS will disappear when he's featured and targeted, instead of a slow, old man.  Who could blame him for getting PO'ed about deferring or focusing on Cpt Slow?

It sure seems to me, reading between the lines, that Moore has been pouting ever since Fields left, and he *definitely* didn't like how he was being used in this offense.  I assume he's the locker room leader in terms of the mutiny.

I'd be willing to bet these are both dead on.  It's been obvious for a while that DJ wasn't giving full effort and that seems to be very tied to the way he was being used and the amount of balls not coming his and not even designed to be coming his way.

I was 11 and we had tickets to Game 5 of the WS so I was absolutely crushed by that choke job. To this day I want to punch Steve Garvey on the face because of the way he circled the bases after a HR in that series with his fist in the air the whole way.

I still don't get how exactly DJ Moore got used the way he did this year. I'm sorry for being a broken record on this, but what happened? Why is he being used for dead-on-arrival WR screens and other junk plays? Does Waldron and/or Caleb hate him? You can tell that DJ wants to be more involved in the offense. One of the few offensive plays I even remember from the Patriots game was when DJ caught a curl, broke a tackle, and hit a first down and was fired the horsefeathers up. I thought there was a slim possibility that could fire up the team and the offense would get going from there. I don't think he's merely checked out because of his paycheck, I think there's something more going on.

It's just weird that he signed a giant extension right in the middle of that.  I mean, yes if someone is throwing big guaranteed money at him, it's not like he's going to just refuse to sign it.  He'll take the guaranteed money and then put up a fuss in the future if he decides he doesn't want to be here anymore.  But he seemed pretty on board with everything at the time he signed the extension at least.

I cannot emphasize enough how much I dislike giving late-20s football players guaranteed money when you *don't have to*.  He was already under contract for a couple more years.

Keenan and Caleb bonding at his pro day probably didn’t help.

NFL players hold out all the time. Being under contract for two more years at an incredibly low number is meaningless. He was never going to finish out that contract

By the way, enjoy this, I think the play that finally ended Shane Waldron's career with the Bears (16:21 if it doesn't load there):

The sprint out to the left with 3 routes going to the right. I remember seeing this when it happened and thinking "oh no, there's no way thats how the actual play is supposed to go". I have no idea what was intended to happen here, but it was definitely the most embarrassing thing I've seen from them since last year.

If everything played out the same but he didn’t sign an extension, he would have demanded a trade this year. He wasn’t keen on playing out that deal looking for the last large payout of his life based on what a rookie qb could do for him.

Reasons for Bears Fans to Have at Least Some Optimism This Sunday

-Will the real Jordan Love please stand up:

  • Games 1-9, 2023: 58.7 percent, 14 touchdowns vs. 10 interceptions, 6.7 yards per attempt – 80.5 passer rating (27th out of 34 quarterbacks with 100 attempts).
  • Games 10-17, 2023: 70.3 percent, 18 touchdowns vs. one interception, 7.7 yards per attempt – 112.7 passer rating (2nd out of 33 quarterbacks with 100 attempts).
  • Games 1-9, 2024: 61.3 percent, 15 touchdowns vs. 10 interceptions, 7.6 yards per attempt – 88.2 passer rating (22nd out of 36 quarterbacks with 100 attempts).

-Defensive tackle Kenny Clark, the 12th highest paid player at his position, has zero sacks.

-Cornerback Jaire Alexander, a two-time second-team All-Pro, can't seem to stay on the field.

-Defensive end Rashan Gary, the eighth highest paid edge defender, has 2.5 sacks but only a half-sack in which he actually beat his blocker.

-Defensive end Lukas Van Ness has one sack. Of 85 edge defenders with at least 125 pass-rushing snaps, he ranks 84th in PFF’s pass-rush productivity, which measures sacks, hits and hurries per pass-rushing snap, and 74th in pass-rush win rate.

On offense, the Packers are 19th on third down and 30th in the red zone.

On defense, they are an excellent sixth on third down but 20th in the red zone.

Of the 14 teams that would be in the playoffs if the season were to end today, only the Packers are 20th or worse in both red-zone categories.

I know the Bears have all sorts of problems, but the Packers seem to have taken a step back from the latter part of last season in many areas. Love's injury, a new defensive coordinator/system, sh!tty Kickers, and way too many drops seem to be the root cause.

And yet Jordan Love will go 28-37 for 375+yards with 4 td/0 ints and the Packers win 38-10.

We've seen this story too many times, PackerlandVA, The only certainly in the NFL this weekend is a Packer victory.

I said at the time, but too many people were treating his contract as the egregious underpay that had to be remedied.  And really the only reason people thought that was because his dead cap hits had been erased during the trade and sat in Carolinas books.  He was under a pretty normal contract structure and payment schedule that plenty of good players play on into years 3+ of a deal.

this is how bad it's gotten.  We have a Packers fan trying to talk us off the ledge and trying to convince us that the Bears have a chance even though we know they don't
