The thing that gives me the most hope is that his best games have come when the line didn't seem to be a dumpster fire (whether it be this game where the game plan had him getting rid of the ball quickly or the opposing defense didn't have a very good DL).  I was always worried during the great stretch that once we played another defense with a good DL, things would get bad again like the Houston game.

I know the QB can be at fault for sacks as well, but for some of these games, there were so many plays that gave him no chance.  Every QB plays better when the line holds up and we have seen him look really good when it does.  I hope this off-season sees major improvement to the line.

The QB can be at fault for sacks, but when your line is so dysfunctional that the QB always has to be looking out of the corner of his eye, or is playing under the guise that someone is always about to sack him, it likely affects his ability to process plays properly.

I'm not going to say that everything wrong with this offense revolves around the line or the play callers. But, defenses know that the Bears are not connecting down the field, and defenses know the line is a weakness that can be easily exposed just sending one extra guy from somewhere/anywhere. Williams has been inconsistent and wild on his throws, and he's also held the ball too long on plays where he absolutely needed to get rid of it.

Brown found a way to make plays happen in less than 2 seconds. GB wasn't prepared for that, even though they were stacking the box like everyone else has been doing. The next team will quite possibly tighten up their defenses closer to the line to take away those quick plays, which should open up some slants across the middle and one on ones deep. But, I don't expect the Bears to be prepared to adjust to the defense next week, so I'll remain skeptical that they can achieve any decent passing yardage until I see it.

Theoretically Williams' quick release should negate any defensive adjustments, a well prepared football team will have no problems.  However, as you alluded, within the last 10 years when have the Bears been well prepared?  Never.

Guess Rome was held on the missed throw by Caleb that should have been an 88 yard TD. Yet, another missed DPI/DH, don't know what is, perhaps, it's lack of anything from Eberflus, as to why the NFL continues to let defenses mug Bears' receivers.  Similar to the allowance of head shots on Fields last season.

If I cared more, I’d be upset at the double standard of the refs calling “”””leverage”””” on us in the Arizona game (that of course completely changed the complexion of the game) and not calling the exact same thing (in a much higher leverage spot!) on the Packers.

i somehow deluded myself into thinking we were getting the bad juju out last year, but instead it got worse

It's got to have something to do with Eberflus' lack of fire, aggression, whatever.  Dude, for the most part, just stands there and lets all the missed calls roll off his back.  If it we're me, especially last year with the repeated cheap shots on Fields, I'd first try the discreet official channels of complaint like Eberflus does.  When that didn't work I'd probably would have gotten my self fined and thrown out a games for getting in officials' faces and calling them out in press conferences.

I mentioned that in the game thread. It was at least  holding if not PI.

Apparently, Jaylon Johnson said, had he not got tripped up, he was going to pick off the pass to Watson.  I believe him, that coupled with Watson pushing Hicks away and making a great catch is what happens to Eberflus coached teams.  Next year Kingsberry/Ben Johnson/whomever coaching, Jaylon doesn't get tripped up and picks the ball off.

Not like I expect NFL to be consistent it's just funny because of the Bears own leverage call against them (and a totally inconsequential FG).

Anyways, hopefully this helps give McCaskey zero pretext to beleive "if only x had gone differently" to justify keeping Flus.

What the horsefeathers ever, the question is moot, Eberflus had a chance to make the FG attempt easier and choose not to do so.  It's on him for being a no-urgency, dickless, coward.

Packers fan just better hope the Bears don't stumble upon some competent coaching, the talent is there at QB, more talent will be added after next year's draft.  Beyond the coaching, the ingredients are there to put and end to the Packers' dominance.
