Thought this was interesting from Reddit re: Players wanting Bagent over Caleb. Seems very plausible knowing Bagent Sr’s personality and Chicago media’s love for reporting unfounded rumors.  This just makes a ton of sense so I’m hoping it’s right. As much as Caleb has struggled in recent weeks it just doesn’t make a ton of sense for vets to be demanding Bagent start.

And I do absolutely remember the rumors last year about the players and Getsy wanting Bagent over Fields

I don't care what a coach is like in the media.  It's clear that the players don't respect the coaching staff behind closed doors, which is way more important.

It’s been clear for a while because we can see how Eberflus presents himself publicly and how the team has quit on them

There could be a case made that the leading players of the team decided Waldron had to go after Williams took 9 sacks in an effort to actually save there rookies career.

Looks like Wright and Jones should play Sunday. Jenkins,  who knows.

Sweat did not practice but hopefully he can go.

Packers 24 Bears 20

Garbage time TD gets the Bears the cover

He'll play a quarter or so, before he falls and breaks his leg, or coccyx, or something.  By the way, very optimistic in thinking the Bears are going to score not just one but two TDs.

It sucks that now, with the division x2 and Seattle and San Fran left on the schedule, that matching last years record would actually be great effort. That’s what happens when you blow that Washington game, lay a turd against the Cardinals, and collapse utterly against one of the worst teams in the league, at home.

Maybe we should be thankful though? If they were 6-3 coming to this point and gutted out a 9-8 record to end the season, they probably would have retained Eberflus, even if the level of play was exactly the same.

Still feels bad to look at everything and see 7-10 as the absolute ceiling. (Clearly I was very wrong when I ridiculed posters for saying that 2 weeks ago. I’ll eat that crow)

It's like the team hit a bick wall, but really it's frequency. Life is about frequency. If you drive impaired once or twice chances are you won't face a negative consequence. But if you do it a lot, you likely will. This outcome is about all the small but cumulative effects of bad decision makers making decisions.

I just want to see improvement by Caleb these last 8 games. If it ends in a 6-11 record so be it

Agreed! If they end up 6-11 and Caleb is looking closer to the Jax-Car game Caleb, I'll feel good about where the team is going. The season will still be under expectations, but the arrow will be directed upwards.

Where you getting two wins from?

Even if the team stays bottomed out, the odds they end up with a one or two wins are still quite high. It's just football. Weird horsefeathers happens.

They could lose out, but I'd bet against it.

It's not a dealbreaker, but it tends to be symptomatic of other issues. With the media, Trestman was a complete weirdo, Fox was aloof and uninterested, and Nagy tried his damndest to be the smartest person in the room despite all evidence to the contrary. Even Lovie was defensive and a bit aloof. That all bore out in their handling of the teams.

Granted, I'd gladly take a successful and effective head coach who was a drooling idiot in front of a microphone, but that appears to be a rarity in professional sports.

How about a change of pace for this Packers game?  Win or lose, the Bears QB resembles some sort of competence?  Where in the NFL rule book is written Bears' QB's have to horsefeathers their pants every time they face the Packers?

It would be conceivably Bears-y to win this game, after they’ve destroyed their playoff hopes and mangled their team and are a huge mess. But not Bears-y enough to overcome the centrifugal force of Packers magic, which defies space and time. It, much like Cardinals pixie dust, is an unshakeable law of the universe. For some reason, unknown to us mere mortals, we’re not allowed to beat the Packers. And, for similar unknown, mythical reasons, they are always guaranteed very good quarterback play while we get bums. If we try to defy these laws, we are punished for it. Such is the way of things, and it was foolish and arrogant of us to expect different.

They win this game ugly when everyone doubts them. Pull off one more win with multiple TDs then look respectable in some of their losses the rest of the way and Eberflus returns.

He gets credit for “keeping the locker room together” and “fighting through adversity”

Poles gets to wait another year to pull the trigger, hires a new guy and they lose more games in 2026 than 2025. Poles gets replaced and that guy gets an opportunity to hire “his guy”
