Through 8 games, Williams is on pace for 3538 passing yards, 19 TDs and 11 ints.

I know we are all jealous of Daniels, but that's really not bad

I would love to know how they would be faring if Daniels went #1 and Williams 2.

Eberflus was retained so quickly after last season that I kind of forgot he's a bad coach (pretty good D Coordinator).  Between Eberflus/Waldron buffoonery and the OL being bad, it really hasn't mattered that he has some good targets.

It really sucks the Bears don't fire coaches during the season.  I could see this thing getting *a lot* uglier as it goes along.  These guys quit yesterday.

There's a lot of bad here, and I think Eberflus signed his own death warrant yesterday. The most damning thing isn't any individual decision here or there but that the team very obviously quit when things got tough and you just can't have that.

I do want to manage the temperature though, because football is an emotional game of huge swings in momentum that can change on completely unpredictable things like the bouncing of balls or the throwing of flags. I don't think the team was so overmatched or so outcoached that something like, say, the refs throwing one of any possible flags when the Bears were throwing into the end zone and our receivers were being mugged, or the, frankly, inexcusable 'Leverage' penalty they called on us, would have us seeing a completely different game. Caleb wasn't great, but he was also moving the ball decently in the first half and was doing that amidst a bunch of drops and poor OLine play. There are some real hinge point moments in this game that, if they went the other way, could have meant a Bears lead, and a very different game.

But I want to be clear - the fact the team completely fell apart when some unfortunate things happened is a point against them and the coaching. That the refs turning a fantastic goal line stand into a touchdown is devastating. But that shouldn't mess you up so much that you give up an inexplicable 50 yard touchdown run within the last 30 seconds of a half.

The most optimistic of us had playoff dreams in the off-season, but the more sober fans (not necessarily myself!) knew this season was primarily about developing Caleb Williams. It still is. Next week is another opportunity for that. Carry on.

Oh and also, we're in the unfortunate position where rookie Rome Odunze may be our best receiver. Keenan Allen looks totally washed - besides having some decent hands in the Jags game, he's really done nothing, can get no separation, and now he can't catch. I'm not sure what's going on with Moore - I want to be generous with him because he was so, so good last year in a pretty bad situation, so I don't know if he's gimpy or if they aren't using him correctly or what, but something ain't right with him. (I hope it's not his attitude, I really do).

Where's Kmet? Everett appears to be a total waste. Did Tyler Scott get sent to the phantom zone? What looked like a real position group of strength is not quite that.

Noticed the same things in the film, even Jenkins says his receivers let him down.  And, on the fade to Allen, love how the officiating misses his left arm being held by the DB yet, somehow, magically saw leverage by Dexter on the FG attempt.

That whole series set a tone for the rest of the game.  They got mugged constantly with no calls and it really affected them pretty badly.

They should fire Flus.  Yes, mid season.  This was a bad judgment call by Poles and he needs to acknowledge that and take action.  Not wait as the team rots from the inside out.

Teams do this.  Saints just did it.  It’s a thing.

It looks just as bad for Poles if he fires Eberflus now, especially if Ben Johnson wanted to coach the Bears last offseason

Williams would be looking the same or better than Daniels is currently because the Redskins OC would have made whatever adjustments to his offensive system to better fit to Williams versus what he is doing to fit Daniels..

We would all be buying pitch forks and meeting at Pole's house because he passed on the obvious # 1.1 pick.

Daniels would be learning how to use the mouth piece joy stick that paraplegics use to move their electric wheelchairs around.

Doubling down on dumb week after week. 3rd string line and Caleb was already limping, but yeah call that fighting to the end. Fluf isn’t smart enough to know he needs to be accountable because he never thinks he makes mistakes.

I don't really see the upside to firing Eberflus mid-season. I don't think it'll do anything to improve the play of the team and it's not like there's any coaching prospect that's currently on the team that I think can do a better job. It could, however, make the team crater even more. I think he's gone regardless by the end of the season unless the team pulls something miraculous and goes .500 or better down the stretch (extremely unlikely).

Now, if they lose to the Patriots, at-home, next week, then yes. I would fire him midseason, lol.

Poles effed it up.  I remember more than a few people thought he shouldn’t have been given the reins to a true #1 QB pick.  He chose to double down on Flus and it’s blown up in his face.  I don’t think it looks good no matter what.  But I’d be for ripping the band aid off now rather than watching a wounded animal for 2 more months, flopping around aimlessly.

I know you alluded to this before, and I thought it to myself a few times yesterday, but I almost feel like Caleb is too afraid of making the big mistake, especially on deep balls. It's always a significant over throw and he's not making the anticipation throws, instead he's about half a second behind giving the defense time to react.

I agree with this, and it is one of the main reasons I wanted them to move on from Eberflus.  I know turnovers are bad if you want to win, and I know all teams don't want their QB throwing picks, but I do think it is the main rule that drives Eberflus.  No turnovers on offense and create turnovers on defense.  "Honor the football."   I worry that he stresses it to the point that the QB is afraid to take any chances and that might be part of the reason his accuracy has been off.

Poles and Flus both need to go, just start fresh. Poles hasn't done anything to meaningfully improve the OL in his entire tenure

I mean he did use the 11th pick in the draft on a tackle, but you are completely right that outside of that the OL has been woefully underdressed.

I'm not ready to fire Poles yet, however this season has been very telling.  This is supposed to be the season he tanked 2 years building for and there are holes on both lines, massive questions about the entire coaching staff and related to that it looks like his team (filled with high character guys because thats something Poles specifically looks for and evaluates) is openly revolting.  You don't need more that 3 years to rebuild a football team and if you do, you've failed.

Basically the bad is starting to snowball and I'm not sure how to stop that snowball from growing.  A win this weekend might help, but then again its the Patriots so what can you really take from that?

For me, only a solid showing against our division foes can quiet the calamity.  3-3, a win against GB has to be one of them.  That’s a tall order even if the Bears hadn’t imploded these past two weeks.

I watched the Packers/Lions game. The Bears are not beating either of those teams. Both play fundamentally better and seem to have a plan from the start of the game that works.

Poor Khalil. I always liked him, even if he never quite seemed the right fit for any of the offenses we ran. We probably should have dealt him in the offseason if he was gonna get so few looks anyway.

I know he wasn't even seeing the field, but essentially giving Herbert away certainly is a thing. I know he can't block for horsefeathers, but he was still a good backup RB.
