Week 9 - Bears (4-3) @ Cardinals (4-4), 3:05 p.m. Sunday 11/3

I honestly don't regret parting ways with Darnell Mooney all that much. His last couple years were pretty rough, he wasn't fitting things well and sometimes guys just need a change of scenery. He's also playing with an extremely accurate, veteran QB. I'm not positive it would have been the case with Caleb.

I'm happy for his success though.

EDIT: Ah! I misunderstood the post, you were pointing out about Keenan Allen's usage and not Mooney.

Why are we sure that that's on the coaching and not on Caleb?

Because it's based on him being the 1st read. That means the coach is calling the plays for Keenan.

He played at a pace of 140 catches last year and 180 targets. He should be the guy we feed like that. However it appears he did not do enough in the off-season to prepare for this and Caleb is nowhere near Justin Herbert.

Not at the cost of basically using Moore as a distraction.

Definitely not. I'm not sure why they are using like they are. From watching the breakdowns he is clearly not running routes with the same efficiency he has in the past. He's seemingly checked out because he's not the primary target.

And no Kmet.  Zero targets.  Struggling QB with bad protection and one of the prime players who could help isn’t utilized.

First read is often decided by QB pre snap read and can have multiple options when called

for a rookie? in Waldens offense? this is a very generalized statement, I'm not sure it at all applicable here

Yes.   That's just how most plays work.  Nobody in the NFL calls plays that have to work exactly one way.  It varies from play to play, but most of the time when Williams goes to the line, he's going to have a couple of options on what order to read the field based on look. Usually at a minimum he'll choose one side of the field or the other to start on.

It's crazy to me that the Bears are -6.   Sweat and Gordon being back will help.  I haven't watched every single game, but my impression is that the Patriots were looking a bit passable under Maye.

My expectations are at their absolute lowest.  You just can't send Larry Borom and Matt Pryor out there as your tackles in an NFL game and think it's gonna be a-ok.

Yeah. Last week looked like a team that isn't going to find its feet again anytime soon. But, playing at home sometimes makes a team look entirely different. Not sure why it factors in that much. The dimensions of the field are the same everywhere.

I can think of two factors going into the line being so favorable: the team is much better at home and the Bears are proven bum slayers.

In other sports I often think home field advantage is overstated, but in football and particularly with this team, homefield advantage allows the offense to simply function. They can’t communicate effectively, they can’t settle down, when they’re on the road. At least not yet.

And the defense feasts on weak QBs. Maye has definitely shown some flashes but he’s a clear step or two behind Caleb and Jayden at this point. My concern, however, is that with Billings gone and our weakness against the run anyway, that may not matter. But the Bears have handled subpar teams quite well, so we shall see.

The patriots are an awful football team
