I'm trying really hard to make this generic and not about Fields because the fanbase that refused to believe this stuff was an issue with Fields really wants to move on and not talk about Fields anymore.

But yes.  Fields is so freaking bad at all this stuff and it drove me absolutely freaking nuts that people refused to see it.  The pre-snap reads that would let his running back run straight into two run blitzers for a -5.  The failing to see the defender jumping the screen and not throwing the alert slant built into the back of the play to prepare for the possibility of the screen being jumped.  The ungodly slow dropback and slow release making his receivers look "covered" because they gave the defender an extra step or two to close on the ball.

I got so tired of being told it was impossible for a QB to account for those things, that those aren't the QB's job to handle.

On three separate occasions, I saw this exact scenario play out:  Defense shows extra blitzer on Fields' right, the vision side.  If the blitzer comes, it's QB's responsibility to hot read the play.  The blitzer comes, Fields never once shows any reaction to the large man running straight at him, gets blasted for the sack.  Bears fans insist that it wasn't Fields fault because it was a "blind side" sack that the OL let through.  Even putting aside the fact that free rushers are often a designed part of protection and the QB's responsibility,, Fields' awareness and reaction time was so poor that people assumed it must have been a blind side sack when it came from vision side.

The unfortunate part is I believe Justin knew where the hot read is but, he's unable to overcome to the physical barrier of game speed.  I think he's aware of it and it must drive him horsefeathers nuts.

There's one thing I was fairly certain of when Poles drafted Caleb - that he'd be able to handle the speed of the NFL game, getting through the progressions etc.  I knew this because the QB he signed, Bagent, doesn't have the problems with the game's speed, not like Justin.  Signing Bagent that told me Poles knows what to look for in a QB.

I thought Drake Maye looked fine in his debut. Plenty of rookie jitters, but plenty of flashes too.  I hate that teams keep pulling the trigger on these QB upgrades before we play them.

Maybe the secret was to pick in a year where there were no wrong answers.

So, yes, the Bears have taken advantage of some weak teams and beat up on them.  The Lions did as well, at the moment, are the Cowboys any better than the Jaguars?  They're better than the Panthers, though, not by much.  I'm pretty confident the Bears could go into Dallas and handle the Cowboys, probably not the way the Lions did but, still, handle them.

Maye was really solid. Rattler was pretty bad. The early returns on this QB class is kind of crazy honestly. Caleb and Daniels looks like franchise QBs, Drake with a really solid first game, Nix has been okish. Who knows what we get from Penix or McCarthy.

Thought Rattler made a few decent throws, agree Maye was solid.

while I was in Minneapolis this past weekend (grad class reunioin), I had several conversations about the Bears, Vikings and Packers with a few of them. I relayed what a couple of my Viking-fan friends felt (doom is always in their future), but what felt almost desperate was my Packer-fan buddy who tried to make an arguement that letting go of Justin Fields instead of trading the #1 pick for another draft pick haul was a huge mistake. I'll admit, I certainly gave that idea some headspace last winter, but I cant think that any Bear fan paying attention to the current state of the Bears offense would think the same.

fear is in the GB water...and I love it

There was never a world where we were keeping Justin Fields.

Trading down and taking a different qb might have been a viable option, but I don't think they ever seriously considered it.

Jayden Daniels looks very good, Drake Maye is a great prospect.  It looks like it was a great year to take a QB at the top.

I love this angle on this play.

This is one of the best anticipation throws I've ever seen from a Bears QB.  Look at where Allen is when Williams decides to throw.  But the timing and location are perfect so that the ball is right there when Allen turns around.

Single coverage is open. Good coverage with inside leverage?  Cool, Williams just throws it to the absolute limit of his reach on the outside shoulder. Nothing the defense can do about that.

I was extremely skeptical of Jayden Daniels and will remain a Skeptic until we play them in two weeks. I just wasn’t convinced his game would translate to the NFL or that his body type would survive in the NFL but I do have to admit he’s been super effective to this point.

of course there’s no rule that says Daniels and Williams cant both be very good, but I am a hater at heart.

I'm not a hater but having lived through Trubisky I will say the not throwing to his left thing is at least a yellow flag.

Top offense, one of the best QB's of the week. Lots of good stuff in the last dozen posts. But, I'd like to remind everyone that the Bears had 7 yards after the first quarter. They had one score up to the last few seconds of the first half. I would like to see them stop looking so bad to start the game. 6 plays in a quarter, and the first quarter of a game, is really bad.

When they start playing the tougher part of the schedule, they need to be ready on the first series. There's no way they are purposely tanking the first series to lull the defense to sleep, right?

I think the season matchups are about as favorable as they can be for a 1st year QB. It’s almost like college where the play a lesser non conference schedule at the start of the season and then move into the tougher schedule.

These games have been great for them. Yet we won’t really know how far they’ve come and how much work is left until a few weeks from now.

The thing I’ve like best is Williams poise in the pocket. Every week it’s better.

Cole blocked his horsefeathers ass off vs Travon Walker on that broken play before splitting off and getting open. Gotta say Rome was pretty awesome on the play as well. His route ran him 10 yards outside of the far hash and when he saw Caleb scramble he took off in the opposite direction and made a hell of a block close to the sideline that probably gave Cole another 10 yards. Excellent effort.

There were so many plays that make my balls tingle.

According to a YT comment in the Chase Daniels breakdown the Bears operate with the 2nd most plays called at the LOS by their QB. It's insane how well this is working with a rookie QB.

Help me understand all the love for the Vikings defense, they aren’t top ten in total yards and not top 5 in yards per attempt. In fact, the Bears are better in the former and right behind them in the latter

#1 in the league in defensive and overall DVOA (as of last week, and they were on a bye this week).

I also went back and looked at their schedule, I wasn’t paying attention to who they played. Oh well, there’s always time for the league to catch on to them…one can hope
