low key bush league slide from Semien

I had the same thought. No need for him to slide how he did.

Tomorrow is an off day?! I missed this entire game dealing with Chase Bank and I can't even drink bourbon and watch a game on my first evening after Spring Break?

horsefeathers me.

That was incredibly entertaining baseball to watch. Also potentially will end up the worst game of the season all things considered, depending on MRI results

I'm still trying to figure out why he pinched hit for Gomes with another RHer in the 10th..

Guessing Smyly will be starting in Steele slot for now.

I've seen enough. The Drew Smyly Experience is over.

No, no it isn’t. It should be…but no.

Allow me to overreact! That was maybe as frustrating an opening day as we could have wished against? Offense looked putrid, Steele almost lights out until he gets injured, we get a free run and the pen blows it again. Just a really tough first game. Let’s hope it’s nowhere but up from here, but goddamn, does it feel like we really horsefeathers up this offseason.
The division was there, waiting to be grabbed and we opted to play it even.

edit: it didn’t edit out a few of my swears but I fixed it. In the future, if it doesn’t do I leave it alone?

That situation is designed by MLB to get at least one run. It started with a weak swinging bunt that advanced the runner, then Smyly was forced to nibble. I don't know that he actually pitched poorly

I will forever hate the extra inning rule regardless but it doesn’t help that the Cubs are 1-43* since it was implemented

I came in hoping they get 1 of 3 this series, tonight was a winnable game but they didn't do much with the bats when they had opportunities.  1 for 7 RISP  8 LOB

Losing Steele gonna hurt and likely cost them what possibly could have been Wins in his starts, hopefully whomever takes those starts can hold his own and they can win more then they lose in those starts.

That really should be a challengable play. Like, top of the list.

At the very least the umpire should have asked for help from the crew, like a check swing. Make an attempt to get it right in a close game.

Garret Cooper does the worst thing you could do in that situation, drew smyly gives up a phantom run against 2-3-4 of the rangers lineup.

Drew’s fault!

That’s because the Cubs are historically, at least as long as I can remember, a pathetic clutch hitting team.  Different teams, years, players, it doesn’t matter.  They never enough of the reliable contact guys that don’t choke.

Morel at DH and cleanup?
Madrigal starting opening day?
Um... I'm not sure about that... unless Madrigal rakes against Eovoldi, but I doubt it.

Morel 3B experiment over on Opening Day haha jk.  Well with Steele hurt now I guess Morel might start at 3B more often.

That blows. Don’t have much margin for error with this team. One injury away from being a meh team.

One of our strengths is our depth.  Could do worse than Ben Brown in for Steele for 1-2 months.  Assad could start too once Taillon is back.  The good thing is this division sucks and nobody is going to pull away with it early.
