You should probably just accept that regardless of where Daniels and Maye go.

I’m with him.  As a pro, Daniels seems like Fields 2.0 to me.  His inaccuracy at LSU was bailed out by a ridiculous WR corps over and over again.

I don't think you can put up the numbers Daniels did based on being bailed out by WRs. He was really good this season and also led the team in rushing. Brian Thomas, in particular, was mostly a non-factor before this season. Nabers was already pretty good, but his numbers took a leap as well.

That being said, I give him props for figuring things out Year 5 in college. But people are really overthinking this. Maye is clearly a better prospect, IMO. And I'd feel more comfortable with taking JJ McCarthy than I do Daniels.

It sincerely annoys me how long it takes the NFL to go from Super Bowl to the Draft. They can do this horsefeathers in March.

As mentioned, it's all about keeping the NFL in news.  After the SB, they have free agency and the big "lead up" to the combines.  Then they take a pause for March Madness and the start of baseball.  Then they have the Draft.  Then a couple of mnicamps. Next thing you know, it's July and 24/7 NFL for nearly 8 months.

You seemed unnecessarily aggressive for a moderator and came off as kind of a dick. Outshined_One had a much better response to the same post and yet you still felt the need to come over the top in your response to the same post. Then when Old Style responded, you again were super aggressive with your response. You're a moderator right? Act like one. If a kid in a class calls a teacher a jerk, are you okay with the teacher responding by calling the kid a jerk?

I'm not absolving Old Style from blame in this whole thing. It just seems like a situation that escalated unnecessary and both sides share blame.

I'm not disagreeing on the point of liking Maye more than Daniels. My take is more that NFL teams certainly have more access to information and will grade players differently based on scheme, benchmarks, etc. and they all have different opinions than each other. NFL teams clearly see things that full time media types don't see, let alone one of us. Obvious response but I had to say it, cuz Kyle

I'm feeling pretty certain that one of the 3 WR's will be available at 9 and Poles will take one. Bringing back Ngakuoe on another one year deal could work to give an extra year to fix the DL entirely. He played better once Sweat was on the team. There could be other post June cuts, camp casualties that help fix the DL if you don't bring back Yannick. There are still other DE Free Agents to pick from, also. That Yannick is still available means he probably comes cheaper this year than he was last year.

I do agree with Raw's concern about too many guys and only one ball, but a stable long term receiver growing with Williams will be a plus. Allen could be gone in a year, and Moore only has 2 years left on his deal. Imagining those 3 together on the field at the same time is hard to pass on.

The defense was already improved. It's time to make a special offense and surround the QB with all the tools necessary to be great. With all of those receivers, the two TE's and a great pass catching back at your disposal, you should still be able to create a lot of points with a lousy OLine. And this line will be much better than lousy. I'm tired of vanilla offenses that rely heavily on a ground game. It seems Poles feels that way, too.

Outside of his running ability, Daniels’ superpower at LSU was extending plays long enough for his two top 15 NFL draft pick WRs to get open, and even then it was often a jump ball.  I’m not claiming that he’s an average prospect, but top 5 pick?  I don’t get it.  His touch on throws just isn’t there.

He’s taken 5 years of college to get this good.  This version might be the best he’ll be.

Dude I haven't moderated horsefeathers in years. LOL. I haven't been outside the Other Sports forum in just as long.

And yes, I'm perfectly fine with a teacher responding that way. If my kid calls a teacher a jerk. I hope to God she gives it back to him.

And again, I said, "this is really going to hurt OJs 2024 draft chances". How is that responding like a dick? It wasn't until he flipped out and told me to "get over myself" for a very clear joke that I responded like a dick. So, not to pull out a grade school retort, but he clearly started it.

And what do you call your interjection? Why did you feel it was necessary to come to Old Style's defense and jump in a situation and escalate it more? I'm already going down to 33% of the blame.

And yes, I realize I'm continuing to escalate the situation, but I'm a grown ass man who isn't going to let someone tell me how to respond to a response that was way over the top. WTF do I have to lose? The other sports forum?

The biggest factor for me in picking a WR if there at 9 is the depth and succession planning. If Odunze or Nabors is the pick, the 4, 5, 6 receivers are still Tyler Scott, Velus Jones, and Dante Pettis. An injury to Allen or Moore force that group into action if no NFL ready player is taken. Yes they could still sign someone, but the pick at 9 should be better than what's left out there.

The succession planning component you mentioned. Having Odunze in place for his year two with Allen's target share is a great prospect and avoids starving Caleb of weapons.

I have to wonder if the team isn't going to extend Moore. With the prices of players continuing to rise the smart play seems to be to get the extension done sooner rather than later to buy lower. Even if you're paying top of market prices in a couple years it looks like a good deal. Not sure if Moore would want to extend now or not.

If pressed into action I think one of Scott or Pettis could be OK.  There should be an improvement at QB which will help with one of them being effective.  That's not to say the Bears shouldn't look to improve the depth at WR even with one of Nabers or Odunze in hand.

This prospect fatigue on Maye is completely crazy right now. I've now seen him go QB #4 and behind McCarthy. He's very clearly the 2nd best prospect, stop over thinking it.

I think a lot of this is noise that is generated because the sports TV people run out of stuff to talk about.

And also smoke from front offices looking for leverage. If, for example, AZ's front office is talking up JJ behind the scenes in an effort to get someone to overpay in a trade up for him, the usual suspects will slobber it up and spew it out with trash takes like, "and unnamed scouting director says JJ is #1 on their board" or "NFL sources are seriously impressed with JJ's private workouts and don't see him lasting past 3."

It's an ouroboros of horsefeathers.

Any Michigan fans on here? Wondering what are your thoughts on Roman Wilson.

Dane Brugler's "The Beast" has him as the #8 receiver in the draft, 2nd round grade. Let's see if this works....

8. ROMAN WILSON | Michigan 5106 | 185 lbs. | 4SR Honolulu, Hawaii (St. Louis) 6/19/2001 (age 22.85) #1
BACKGROUND: Roman Wilson was born in Maui and grew up in Kihei. His parents (Jeffrey Wilson and Colleen Colegrove) grew up in Michigan and met at Western Michigan before moving to Hawaii. Wilson started playing football at the Pop Warner level and was an avid athlete throughout childhood. He started working with a speed trainer (David Kamalani) in sixth grade. After Wilson attended Lokelani Intermediate for middle school, the family made the decision that he would attend football powerhouse St. Louis High School in Honolulu — a program that has produced numerous college and NFL players, including Tua Tagovailoa, Marcus Mariota, Olin Kreutz, Nate and Nick Herbig and several others. Wilson’ daily commute to the island of Oahu initially required him taking a flight to and from school, until he moved to Kapolei on Oahu to make things easier (his father later transferred to Honolulu to be with him). A three -year letterman, Wilson had a breakout junior season with 32 receptions for 803 yards (25.1 average) and seven touchdowns, helping St. Louis to an undefeated 11 -0 record and the 2018 state championship. He again led the team in receiving as a senior with 61 catches for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns, as St. Louis  went 12-0 and captured its fourth straight state title (Wilson had eight catches for 171 yards, including an 86-yard touchdown, in the 2019 championship game). Wilson was also a standout track athlete in high school and won the 2019 state gold medal in the 100 meters (10.68 seconds — just 0.05 seconds shy of the state record). He set personal bests of 22.54 seconds in the 200 meters, 5 feet in the high jump, 21-1.25 in the long jump and anchored the 4x100 relay, which set a state -meet record of 41.54 in 2019. A four-star recruit, Wilson was the No. 60 wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting class and the No. 3 recruit in Hawaii, one spot behi nd his high school teammate Nick Herbig (Wisconsin). He wasn’t really on the recruiting radar midway through his junior season, but he turned heads at a regional of Nike’s The Opening in May 2019, running the fastest 40-yard dash (4.37) at the event. Within a few days, Wilson had heard from dozens of schools and received scholarship offers from Michigan, Oregon, UCLA and others. He considered Hawaii (his first offer), but in the end, the balance of academics and football led Wilson to Michigan over Cal (his parents’ Michigan roots also helped). He enrolled in August 2020. His mother was a legendary track and cross-country standout in high school, then ran at Southwest Michigan
Community College and Western Michigan (1990-91). Wilson accepted his invitation to the 2024 Senior Bowl.

Poor MHJ is going to get drafted by Arizona and we'll never hear of him again

Minnesota or the Giants will be picking 4th, depending on who makes the best offer. MHJ is going to the Chargers.

Linky-Link

I always thought that if either team lost draft pick(s) it would be in '25 draft. So this news does not surprise me.

Arizona is saying they have 4 teams interested in trading up, but they won't pull the trigger until it's their turn to draft. I'm guessing it's Minny, NYG, DEN and LV. Of those, I'd say the only teams that have a chance to slide up to 4 are the Giants and Vikings. I'd give the Giants the upper hand, as I think the Chargers could still get the second best WR at 6. By holding out to draft night, you know the Cardinals GM will be upping the bids by playing the teams against each other for the rights to McCarthy. Minnesota has 2 first rounders, but that's it for this year, and I don't think they really want to use them both. Minny could offer up Jefferson though. That could move the needle back to Minnesota. It's going to be a fun draft.

the Vikings are probably the most trade-happy team on draft day year in and year out. I feel like they will get one of the top QBs.

Oh please it be McCarthy and that they have to destroy the rest of their '24 and part of their '25 draft to do so.
