If you're targeting Swanson then I don't see much reason to get too worked up about 8/200 in this market. He turns 29 right before pitchers and catchers report, so 8 years for him isn't going any later in his career than say, the Darvish contract. And 25M AAV is less than I would expect so you're at least getting a slight discount for it.

I'd rather have Correa, but especially with several holes and a hot market, I can at least understand how some might prefer something like Swanson + Senga to Correa + rehabbing SP

Is it just me or is that tweet unintelligible

It's missing a word or two, "Okay, I just got word the Cubs are close to a signing" is the main thrust.

Hopefully he’s literally miss the word two, lol

Loxas doesn’t know horsefeathers

Probably not but legitimate news has been quiet so it’s ‘unfounded rumors from bloggers’ time. Hopefully won’t have to drop down to the ‘random Twitter user has a friend whose brother in law works for the cubs’ tier

Is Loxas the restaurant guy? Either way there hasn't been enough silly rumor stuff this off-season so I'll take it

I'm fairly all in on the idea that Swanson's just about done and everyone agreed to press pause until after his wedding. It makes a lot of stuff from the past 4/5 days fit together nicely.

Regarding Swanson, Keith Law mentioned on a recent Athletic podcast that based on the people/scouts he's talked to, he thinks Swanson's defensive improvements are sustainable. He didn't really expand on that though.

Stupid question for the hive mind—given the Trea Turner (11/300) and Xander Boegarts (11/280) deals, what do we honestly think it’ll reasonably take to snag Correa? Like, I don’t see any way it shakes out at less than, like, 10/360 at this point. And that’s probably too low, honestly, given that he’s younger than Boegarts AND Turner. Not sure why he’d take anything less than 11-12 years unless the AAV is off the charts.

Personally I’d still do it, but I’m increasingly pessimistic that the length of the Turner and Boegarts deals (and their potential effect on the length of any Correa deal) may have given the Cubs FO the proverbial “cover” they need (or think they need) to pass.

Carlos Correa - talking out the covid year, he’s averaging 118 games/year. It’s a lot of years and $ for a guy who can’t stay healthy and who is only gonna age.
