@JeffPassan: Sources: Cleveland has been willing to listen on pitching, particularly Carlos Carrasco. May be a match there with Toronto. They've talked.

If Carassco is available, he jumps right to the top of the wishlist for me. Absolutely filthy peripherals (2.81FIP,2.73xFIP,10.08K/9), with an ERA that is lagging behind.

i'd rather go back and get pedro somewhere along the line

I'd rather get steroid Bonds than any player in baseball history. God that would be fun to watch.

well we had like the next best thing

And he was more fun than Bonds.

Agreed, plus his contract is pretty great. $4.5, $6.5, and $8 thru the 2016-18' and then 2 team options for 19' and 20' at $9 and $9.5. Looks like he has some durability issues, however.

Carassco's contract is fantastic. 4/22 through 2018 and club options for 2019 and 2020 at 9M and 9.5M respectively.

didn't kyle say it was a mistake because they 'paid a pitcher before they had to'?

eh, even if he didn't, i'll try to remember it that way as yet another amusing bit of lunacy

Tim didn't like it because you should never sign a pitcher for multiple years.

Okay, best offers for Carrasco:

Baez, McKinney and Underwood.

I still think Baez will turn it around but Carrasco should be a star in Chicago.

Results-oriented thinking is still wrong.

says the guy always spouting off about how many consecutive seasons theo epstein and jed hoyer have combined for with no playoff appearances (even better, without acknowledging any sort of context)

Is there anyone in my audience who is unaware of the context? Of course not, so I don't feel the need to list it.

Damn him for building those 89 and 90 win teams that didn't make the playoffs.

Wait, isn't that supposed to be the worst thing you can do? If you don't make it, aren't you supposed to tank for draft position? Being caught in-between is What Jim Hendry Would Do.

And hell, if we're not gonna give Theo any credit for the 2012 Red Sox, we should probably give Hoyer credit for the 90 win Padres who you also include in that little bit of trivia.

Hey, jackass, try that on someone who has actually said those things.

criticizing 90 win teams for not making the playoffs is basically the definition of results oriented thinking

Unless you are a goober who thinks winning the playoff crapshoot is a meaningful metric, I don't know if Theo is going to *want* credit for what has happened to the Red Sox since he left. So much for "Once Epstein sets up your sustained success, you are set for life."

I don't keep exhaustive notes on who said what and when. I'm not as weirdly obsessed with individual posters as some people get to be.

ugh you quoted me before i edited to 2013, but nevertheless, yes, he would want credit for a 97 win team. it's not like it was the 06 cardinals.
