What's your wish list for the trade deadline?

Theo made some starting pitching comments yesterday, so it appears that's definitely on the agenda.

I want one of Papelbon/Clippard, a Kazmir/Leake caliber starter, and Zobrist. Or at least a solid bench bat.

It's very possible that Torres and Underwood are top 50 prospects at this point. In all seriousness, would another team beat those 2, Alcantara, and Vogelbach for Hamels?

Prospects are your thing, but, I'm...struggling to see how a guy with 5.8 K/9 at A+ is a top 50 prospect.

The stuff is improving, extremely young, I've seen multiple prospect guys at BA/BP say he's a top 100 guy now. I said top 50 because he's been even better since they first started saying it. The K rate is disturbing, but the stuff is still improving and the K's should conceivably start to come.

Hamels and Papelbon would be ideal, but Amaro's a raving lunatic.

If we want to go nuts, there's Justin Upton. And if he's up for an extension, it might not be all that nuts.

If we want to go big but not nuts: Reddick, Kazmir, Clippard

If we want to be frugal, there's K-Rod or Axford (if the Rockies decide to sell.)

An elite RP(e.g. Papelbon, Chapman) - Subject to change if Soriano looks great in abbreviated Spring Training and Ramirez comes back healthy/productive

A rental SP(e.g. Kazmir, Iwakuma if healthy/available, etc)

OR

A good young SP(e.g. Syndergaard, Quintana, etc)

None of the bigger name rentals strike me as very likely to have loyalty or accept a pre-FA extension, so I'd rather wait to give one of them what they want or use the bigger trade chips for a more lasting piece.

i still want an elite RP even if those guys look good. it's so comforting to have guys come in and mow down hitters for 3 innings, especially in the playoffs. i know there's not any real secret to winning short series, but it sure can't hurt to have dominant dude after dominant dude come in in high leverage spots.

I can see the Cubs swinging a deal for 2 of 3 of the following:

Kazmir, Zobrist, Clippard. Would be awesome to see the Cubs land all 3 and essentially shore up all their weaknesses in their rotation, bench and bullpen but I'll be honest - Kazmir's asking price will scare me as I don't see him being as good as his numbers have been.

Two things I see holding up this idea: A's would probably net more trading 2 of them one place and 1 somewhere else - most likely packaging Zobrist and Clipped together and trading Kazmir on his own. Secondly, Beane might be hesitant to make a deal with Theo again following last years happenings but that could also be a complete non-factor.

My proposed out-of-left-field offer: Almora, Vogelbach, Alcantara for Kazmir, Clippard, Zobrist

Unlikely guys, for various reasons, but guys I like who should/could be available nonetheless: Chapman, Hamels, Justin Upton, Tyson Ross, Carlos Gomez, Sonny Gray (if we are really willing to deal)

Guys who are reasonable targets that I like and could/should be available: Mike Dunn, AJ Ramos, Paplebon, Clippard, Zobrist, Gerrado Parra, Koji Uehara

Gomez and Chapman would be unbelievable. Unfortunately, also both in our division which tends to make trading for them tougher.

Welcome!

I like all three of Kazmir, Zobrist, and Clippard, but that's a big pricetag to pay for 3 guys who will all be gone by November.

I agree but Vogelbach has little value to the Cubs and other teams know that. Alcantara actually ranks really well with scouts, but so did Corey Patterson. Almora has the tools to be good, but his strengths are more defensive than offensive. Ultimately, you aren't giving up your big pieces/prospects. Vogelbach seems like a Jack Cust-like player, Alcantara could turn out well or could just hangout right where he's at and too many prospects have been held onto for too long only to fail. Almora would be the tough one to lose, but once again - if you want to get good players, you have to give up something.

One of the guys on the clubhouse weekend show (8am-10am) on the score wanna say Hit & Run with Rozner were saying the Sox need to rebuild (which i agree) and Sale while unlikely they would want to trade him would give them the best return they could possibly get.

Someone else mentioned Quintana, he is a decent pitcher, but if the cubs could get Sale, could you imagine that ... thats a Wildcard 1 game starter for ya there.

I'm not saying keep those guys because they're all going to be useful on the Cubs for the next 10 years, in fact those 3 are the right prospects to be traded, IMO. My point is use their value on something more lasting than a handful of rentals, none of which are dominant at their position.
