I keep seeing people talk about how the A's would value Vogelbach more than other teams. Is this just because of Jeremys Brown and Giambi?

they think it's 2002 and only billy beane knows about obp?

Chuckles. Partly right, Leave out the word only and add that we also have a working relationship with Beane and the A's have the DH to give him a second position to play if 1B is taken. That working relationship part also means that Beane is reasonable to deal with and will give you value where its due, unlike some guys like Amaro in Philly who only want's one-sided deals. So far at least. :)

Theo made some starting pitching comments yesterday, so it appears that's definitely on the agenda.

I want one of Papelbon/Clippard, a Kazmir/Leake caliber starter, and Zobrist. Or at least a solid bench bat.

Sonny Gray please

What do you like about Leake?

1 good starter: Hamels, Cueto, Shark, Kazmir

A left handed reliever: Mike Dunn, the long named dude on the Indians, Duke if the Sox pay off the 3rd year. Edit: nevermind Duke, he sucks. A good late game LOOGY would help the bullpen.

That's all for now. If there is a bad injury to a starting position player maybe a bat gets added to my wish list, but as of now there aren't any open positions and Schwarber, Baez, Alcantara will provide nice depth later in the year.

Showcase Schwarber for Minnesota this weekend. Then swing a Schwarber for Buxton deal.

an OF prospect for OF prospect challenge trade would be very exciting

I started bringing Gray up in the offseason. With the A's playing much better as of late, I don't think Billy will deal him. If he would, I can't see us not having to give up Schwarber as part of it. Working relationship or not, Billy will remember last years deal for a very long time.

As for Leake, I don't actually like him much. Was being lazy and just wanted to name off a couple of non elite options. I guess he's been pretty healthy, outside of that, he'd only be an upgrade from Wada.

Is he like a better hitter than Wada or something

I snark, but it is important to note that while Wada's worth upgrading over (say that 5 times fast), he's not Shawn Estes either. Especially with someone like Turner lurking as depth, the acquisition needs to be an objectively good pitcher.

If Schwarber truly can stick at catcher I'm not sure I'd want to move him for Buxton.

Why wouldn't you want to acquire Buxton when we already have Ross as a replacement for Schwarber?

Buxton will end up a Corey Patterson at best we been there done that. In fact he didnt do that great in the minors this year. sorry trading a for sure .300 hitter for a guy who is basically gonna be like billy Hamilton is just dumb. if your hellbent on trading schwarber, get chris sale.

Buxton was regarded as a higher rated prospect than Bryant by some.

And that's a justifiable assertion, I just happen to think that in the long run for the Cubs a Schwarber behind the plate is more valuable than a Buxton in CF.

No he won't you dolt.

I feel as if evolvements over the last decade have ensured that Corey Pattersons don't happen nearly as often.

Just be happy our GM isn't Amaro. He seems to be worse than Hendry but from the same tree. Overloaded bad contracts, solid few years and then hold onto them 1-2 years longer than he should have. He says he's waiting to get an offer he's blown away by for Hamels but even if he had the offer today, he'd hold out to the deadline to see what else is out there. I will bet the Phils trade Hamels this year but it'll be last minute. Papelbon on the other hand, they should just wait for the first no-brainer offer that pops up between now and July 31.

Jim Hendry wasn't a bad GM because of bad contracts.

Jim Hendry was a bad overall GM. He had a few good signings, a couple really good trades, but his overall grade as a GM is probably a C. Any GM with a Chicago budget can put together a short run of success, but it's something else if you can produce sustainable success - Cardinals, Giants, Red Sox, Yankees.

Do the Giants really have more sustained success than the Hendry Cubs? They made it through the playoff crap shoot the last three times they got there, but that was their only three appearances in the last 11 seasons.

I feel like their success dates back to the early 2000's. If I remember right they were in the World Series in 2002 against the Angels? For the most part, they've only had a couple bad seasons since.

They've had 12 seasons dating back to 1997 where they've won 86+ games. I'd say that's pretty solid.

Jim Hendry was a horrific GM. He did a solid job compiling major league talent but he couldn't draft, he gave out awful contracts, and he couldn't run a Major League Baseball team. Part of the reason why the Cubs struggled under him was because he had no clue how to develop minor league talent.
