Buxton will end up a Corey Patterson at best we been there done that. In fact he didnt do that great in the minors this year. sorry trading a for sure .300 hitter for a guy who is basically gonna be like billy Hamilton is just dumb. if your hellbent on trading schwarber, get chris sale.

What the hell?

Stating that he's going to be the next Billy Hamilton is as dumb as stating that he's going to be a perennial all star. The guy has less than 20 PA's in the majors

I dont know if this has been discussed, is the any interest in Buchholz? I thought he was a FA after this year, but I may be wrong.

I mean, sure? If like the best player it would require is Vogelbach

Ooh, Buchholz is a fun option. Enough inconsistency to depress his value a bit, but very clearly has the stuff to be good, performing well this year so you don't have to wish on improvement for there to be immediate benefit, and heavy cutter usage to make you think he's a match for Bosio. Problem is that Boston would not have the motivations of the typical seller, so the price would start at non-starter levels(Schwarber) and probably not fall too much from there unless Buchholz gets scapegoated or has a rift with coaches.

I know the Bucholz idea is out of left field and might not even be a possibility but I do like guys like that - sometimes when they are playing so inconsistently all they need is a change of scenery and that motivates them and sparks that fire they need.

Cannot stand how he pitches (Makes Steve Trachsel look like Mark Buehrle), but he is pretty decent most of the time.

Welcome. Hope you're better than the first 16 Tims we've had.

Sonny Gray is going absolutely nowhere. The thought that he might be traded may be even more laughable than the idea of Sale being traded. Getting an ace isn't a huge priority IMO with Lester and Arrieta already on the staff. Your #3 only starts once in a 5 game series so you don't need to overpay only to have one of Lester, Arrieta [insert random trade guy here] only start one game in a potential divisional series. Give me Kaz and Zobrist. I would like Reddick but we already have one left handed platoon bat in the OF in Coghlan, so I think he's probably redundant. All of this is contingent on the A's selling and I think they have the ability to get back into the AL West race. Beane knows they've been incredibly unlucky thus far, so I'm not sure he will be selling until the last minute, because that division is up for grabs when the Astros come back to earth a bit.

Yeah I would say Sale is more likely to be traded than Gray but both aren't going anywhere. No way does Oakland even think about trading Gray after their fire sale last offseason, Beane would be lynched.

I don't think it's all that likely Gray gets traded, but Billy Beane has made a living selling pitchers. Sale is not getting traded unless Reinsdorf wills the payroll to drop below 50 million(read: never), Gray is unlikely but at least there's a bit of precedent.

Beane hasn't made a living of selling off high end pitching with 5 years of control left. He'll wait until the pitcher gets expensive

I think TT is overstating how common it is, but Gio did have 4 years of control when traded. If the A's sell off, it's an extra 2-3 months.

ETA: Non-pitcher, but Donaldson had 4 years as well.

Unless we can rip off Amaro, I'd rather go after someone like Jose Quintana. His contract would still allow us to go after a Price/Zimmerman in the offseason as well.

I think there's literally 0 chance that the White Sox trade something of value to us. Outside of the Cards, our cost would be higher with them than anyone else.

I think (hope for their sake) that Rick Hahn thinks differently than their fan base. No reason to avoid making a deal just so that he can avoid some incoherent rants at Soxfest in January.

“We’re not hiding the ball,” he told reporters before Chicago beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. “That’s one area right now where we kind of have a short stack and need to address it before it becomes a problem.”

This has been an ongoing effort for some time now, with sources telling 670 The Score that Epstein and the Cubs have been busy working the phones in search of another arm and are encountering the expectedly high asking prices at this point in the developing market. Deadlines spur negotiation, but the Cubs would prefer to strike a deal earlier if possible, before possible targets are plucked by others and to allow their acquisition to provide greater value to them.

And this was all before Tsuyoshi Wada left the game with was was said to be shoulder cramps. So unlike last year at this time when they looked to be opportunistic sellers, the Cubs are in the race at 38-30 (good for the second NL wild card right now) and on the hunt for help.

Trade Castro to the Mets, who don't have an answer at SS and desperately need offense. I'd also throw in Lake or Mendy. I want Noah Syndergaard back.

At this point, I doubt we could even get Matz back for Castro. And Castro isn't much of an upgrade (if any) over Flores.

Syndergaard - for Castro? Why not ask them to throw in Matt Harvey, too? The fantasy bubble Cub fans are living in when it comes to Castro's value never fails to astonish.

FWIW, Gammons floated the idea of Edwards and McKinney (plus "a young SS") for Tyson Ross. No idea if he completely pulled that out of his ass, as he's wont to do. But I would be very leery of giving up McKinney in that deal, since Ross is about as sure-fire a bet for TJS as anyone in baseball.
