3-1-2 is probably the order I'd put those in as far as the likelihood of them happening.

Did Tim pay you to say that as some sort of subtle advertising?

I'd rather have McCarthy or Liriano than Peavy, out of the 2nd tier guys, but if he helps bring in Lester I guess it's worth it. Wouldn't want to give him more than 1 year guaranteed with some sort of vesting option year tho.

Also I wouldn't mind taking a "flier" on either of Josh Johnson or Brett Anderson if/when their options aren't picked up. I think Johnson's is around $4 million and Anderson is like $12.

Cubs wind up with Lester, Martin, David Robertson?, Masterson, and Peavy. With a caveat they don't think the Cubs sign 3 pitchers, just see them as the favorites for each.

No way in hell they sign Robertson, in my eyes.

I'd so much prefer McCarthy or Anderson to either Masterson or Peavy. I have no interest in a reliever whatsoever. I'm pretty ambivalent about Martin in general, but would probably not want to spend what it would take to sign an aging catcher.

My perfect offseason might be Lester, Anderson/McCarthy & Melky/Cruz/Tomas.

I think McCarthy will get a longer term deal than I'd care to give him. I'm more than fine with Lester and one of Masterson or Peavy.

I want no part of Robertson but could easily be sold on Andrew Miller, IF we add a bullpen arm that's worthy of a major league contract.

I'm fine with Martin on up to a 4 year deal, only because I think he's a nice upgrade for the first two. And I'd think we'd likely find fairly decent value if we traded Castillo, maybe even getting the OF we're likely to add that way.

Why would we ever consider signing Robertson? It's not like we had closer problems after Veras was dumped. Plus we had Ramirez and Strop as well.

robertson makes zero sense

miller i can sort of see an argument for

It's like he wasn't paying attention to the Cubs bullpen at all this year. I found the Robertson thing kinda mind boggling.

Yeah McCarthy was good as a Yankee, likely gets a multi year deal (3?). But i don't really like Masterson or Peavy. I think Martin would be almost invaluable to the pitching staff. He's really good.

Rosenthal has a piece out saying Montero is definitely available. I'd consider doing a straight up swap for Castillo if we don't sign Martin - Montero's contract certainly isn't great, but he's also a much better receiver than Castillo and likely still a better offensive player.

I don't think it'll take Castillo to get a deal done. If we're eating the full salary, Im thinking something like Daury Torrez and Victor Caratini would get it done.

Then you still have Castillo to back up

Yeah, a big part of the appeal of Montero is that he and Castillo combine to provide depth and quality to that catcher's spot. Trading Castillo for Montero is just adding payroll for no reason.
