What's a guy like Hammel going to go for? Pitched great for the cubs; not so great for oakland.

Signing Lester and Hammel could be nice . . . . .then maybe Melky.

It's awesome how we're only a move or two away from being a post season competitor.

I would be surprised if we didn't win the central. Totally surprised.

"Move or two away"? GTFO. I mean wtf? Competitor? We're a move or two away from shooting a big Ole wad on history.

If they go after Lester? Fine. I just hope it's someone that's going to hold up well for 4+ years if they spend big money. To be honest, I'd love to try to get Shark back when he hits FA. Especially if he keeps up his performance. I like the youth of his arm better in a long term deal.

Lester and shark, Either or both. Those are the 2 TOR types I have my hopes on.

If they don't spend big money this offseason there should be a coup

I think they'll sign a guy that could be considered a headliner. It will be someone significant at a position of need.

Brett and a bunch of other writers keep saying stuff like if the Cubs make a bunch of moves they could conceivably, possibly, maybe just maybe be a .500 team. Whoa, easy there Mr. Hot Takes, you mean the team that has been .500 since May, that has called up 2 top 10 prospects in the past month, that will add 2 more top 10 prospects next year, and has $50m to spend MIGHT have the talent to be a .500 team next year? You have to admire their willingness to put their reputations on the line like that.

If Brett raises expectations too much he might actually have to criticize something about the Cubs should they fail to meet them.

Maybe as a company man, he knows they won't spend that $50 million.

I honestly doubt they spend 50 mill this offseason unless they see payroll being able to move past the 100 mill area prior to 2020. And I think the only reason that'll be the case is if we see enough of an attendance spike, that it gives us an extra 10-20 mill to use over that timeframe.

Why is Galardo from the Brewers never mentioned as someone to sign? He is a free agent after this season, and young, and has never had a losing season. I would be very happy signing him, along with Lester, and go to war in April.

I don't want to go to war. Also MIL has a team option on Gallardo.

Hahaha this is exactly right.

Sounds promising but I'll refrain from excitement until he's on TV holding up a Cubs jersey.

How about if somebody hears him singing "Go Cubs, Go" in a bar, purple shirt guy saw him at Starbucks in Boystown, and BigBird heard it from an inside source that it was a done deal?

Did I read it somewhere that Lester and Theo are extremely tight? That Theo actually went with him to the doctor on more than one occasion when he had cancer?

Lester can buy a lot of friends when he signs a contract for $20-$25 million per year over the next 5-6 years.

I'll remain skeptical until he pitches his first game as a Cub.

I remain skeptical until he pitches the final pitch for the final out in game 7 of the World series in which the Cubs win.

If he pitches the final out for the Cubs, that means the Cubs won.

Game 7? I want a cakewalk in 5 games, tops.
