  1. Jim Riley on Youtube has 3 possible deals for Devers, all to NL Teams. Mets for Mauricio, Megill, Tidwell and Vientos Dodgers for Pepiot and Vargas Cubs for Amaya, Davis, Triantos and Wicks
  2. Cubbiescrib put out what they think they will happen at the Winter Meetings with the Cubs. Said they Cubs will sign Bogaerts. trade Alzolay, and sign Senga. Why would Cubs trade Alzolay and then sign Senga. Which would you rather have next season? Alzolay is a proven commodity, Senga is not in the Major Leagues. I like Adbert Alzolay and would hate to see him traded. When he is healthy, he is a very good arm.
  3. GraffeNeckMarc on Youtube says where he thinks 206 free agents will land. He said the Cubs would get these 6 players: Kohl Calhoun, Mychal Givens, Chad Green, Jose Abreu, Jed Lowrey, Christian Vazquez.
  4. So if you were the GM of the Cubs, and you have expectations of a pretty good pitching staff, and most of your starters get injured and miss much time, wouldn't that take you down too? You guys act like this is the fault of the owner and the GM. Why? They set up a pretty good staff. They got injured. Miley has barely pitched, Mills and Alzolay have not pitched at all. Your big free agent signing has missed much time and has hardly any wins. Now Hendricks is out indefinitely. Whose fault is that? Blame the owner? Stupid. Blame the GM? Stupid. Blame the injuries. They were able to have a really good bullpen and sell them off at the deadline for some pretty good pieces. And they have a really good minor league season taking place. So if you were the GM, and all your starters go down, you would be right where these guys are. And you would say, "but this is not the team I set up, we had many injuries", and that would be correct. Give these guys a break on this losing season. This is not the team they planned to play this year. Just be happy that Steele and Thompson stepped in very well to lead the starting staff, or it could be much worse than it is.
  5. Mets acquire Tyler Naquin and Phillip Diehl from Reds for Hector Rodriquez and Jose Acuna.
  6. I was watching The Just Baseball Show on Youtube while ago. They are making trade proposals for teams. The very first one involved our Cubs and the Mets. Here is the deal they proposed. Contreras and Robertson to the Mets for #5 prospect Mark Vientos, #10 prospect 18 year old pitcher Joel Diaz, #21 prospect Mike Vasil, and Dom Smith who is 26 years old. They said the Mets want to win this year and need to upgrade the catcher spot only as a rental. And need bullpen help. What do you make of their proposal?
  7. Tim, guess you didn't read what I wrote. You had Heyward at leadoff, and I talked about that in my post. Thanks. In no way was I saying Brock and Denier were the same player, just good leadoff guys who could steal bases. You guys just read what you want to read, and post what you want to post. Never mind what the person had in mind who wrote it. And way to fast to hate someone's ideas. You might not want to be so critical of ideas on here if you want people to read this stuff. Thanks.
  8. It is bad when someone asks a good question as I did, and get replies like the one just above. Shows real talent to write garbage. Thanks. So some think Heyward can be the leadoff hitter. If you like a K man as leadoff hitter, fine, but I don't. Frankly, I would rather have Denier back, or Lou Brock, someone who can get on and get over. The daily double. You guys are happy to play for 3 run homers all day, and I would actually rather have an offense that creates some havoc for the defense, and scores without the long ball.
  9. I was actually asking Tim, but thanks for your answer. This really leaves us without a leadoff hitter.
  10. So give me your lineup then. Who is your leadoff hitter?
  11. Why is Galardo from the Brewers never mentioned as someone to sign? He is a free agent after this season, and young, and has never had a losing season. I would be very happy signing him, along with Lester, and go to war in April.
  12. Taylor Davis is doing really well at AA. I hear no talk of him on this board. What are the thoughts on Davis? Good hitting catcher? Or what? Anybody have him on their radar yet?
  13. Why didn't the Cubs just take Russell with the #7 instead of taking Almora? Interesting to think about. Which would they take today?
  14. Toonster, if you add Jr Lake to Silva and Ha, then what?
  15. White Sox send Jesse Crain to Tampa for cash considerations and players to be named later.
  16. Chris Archer beat the Yankees 1-0 with a 2 hit shutout with 6 K's for his 6th win of the season. Good to see one of our former Cubbies have success. If Hak Lee if puts it together, they could make the Garza trade look better from Tampa's viewpoint.
  17. Highly doubtful Samardzija will be traded, but you listen to offers just in case somebody is ready to over pay big time. Where are the same talks about Castro? That is one I could see the Cubs making. Maybe not now, but over the winter. Still hope to see them move a few more pieces before the deadline. So who is next to go? and when?
  18. You better believe Olt is in our Top 10 Prospects list. He is so much better than you are reading on here. He is going to be good. Jim Callis said Cubs could put him on 3rd today cause he is ready, and I believe that. Don't hurt to send him to AAA for a bit, but he should be playing 3rd base very soon for the Cubs. And as he said, he is the one who will stay there. Baez and Bryant will move away from 3rd base. Olt will be our 3rd baseman of the future. Olt is not Brett Jackson. I agree with Jim Callis on this one. MLB had him the 19th best Prospect in baseball, BA had him the 22nd best Prospect in baseball last year. He is a good one. The pitchers, I will not comment on cause I know nothing about them, other than what I have read. I like this deal a lot.
  19. Listening to the guys on WGN coming home while ago, and they were saying the Cubs would not get what they want for Garza, that we would all be disappointed with what they get. I wonder why they are on the air with such stuff as that today. They may indeed be right, but why are they saying that now? Said the Cubs set the trade value at about what the Dodgers gave for Zac Grienke last year, and that the Cubs would not get that for Garza. Just made me mad hearing them talk like that. How do you feel about it?
  20. One thing amazed me about this draft by the Cubs. And that is how many small schools they drafted guys out of. They had to scour the country to find these guys. Amazes me how they found so many from no-name schools. Just my thought.
  21. I was planning on going to Burlington to watch the Kane County Cougars this evening, but it is 50 degrees and dropping in the 40's, damp and a north wind blowing, so stayed home. Wish it was a nice evening to go watch them play, I was looking forward to it, and they are playing a doubleheader too.

    2013

Most want to see the Cubs compete in 2013. They can if three things happen. They will need Josh Vitters to man 3rd and Brett Jackson to man cf and Wellington Castillo and Steve Clevenger to handle catcher, and all contribute offensively. They you have a decent player at every position on the field. How many feel each of these are now taken care of. I know Vitters and Jackson have few ab's and have struggled so far, but maybe some believe in them already for next year. Who does? If the lineup and offense is solid, then look at the pitching staff and spend some on it and go for wins next season. But if there are still many holes to fill in the lineup and pitching both, then likely next year will look similiar to this year. I am not sold on Vitters and Jackson myself, but wonder how many are. Fire away.
  23. I hear a lot about Hernandez and Amaya on here, but nothing about Penalver. What is everyone's take on him? Not as good?
  24. Barney is so much fun to watch play defense. He is outstanding. I love the guy's play. Wish he had a little more pop in his bat, but he sure hit a long home run two nights ago in the big 7 run inning, 3 run homer. Wish he was better with men on base, seems to get over anxious in the big situations to me. But I really like him. Had Detroit wanted him bad enough July 31, I would have had no trouble waving good bye though, to get another good prospect in the farm system.
  25. What are your expectations for Torreyes? How much better is he going to be than Barney? Barney gives us great defense and a solid bat. What else does Torreyes bring to the table? I like him, just not all that excited about him. And yes, he is young, I understand that too. Just wondering why you guys are so excited about him. Glad to see Christian got off to good start.
