Josh Byrnes just got fired. Won't shock me if he winds up here with some sort of new title. No idea what it does to the Pads in season plans.

Jed Hoyer sure did set up that organization for sustained success.

You don't get to blame past FO's for the current state of the team considering your whole thing is that Byrnes should have had enough time to do things his way.

Yes, that's the point.

Trading Rizzo and keeping Alonso set them back somewhat. I can't see them blaming Hoyer and McLeod too much, especially since McLeod is being mentioned already. Which I hope passes, as I want him here as long as possible.

To be fair, Hoyer was GM of the Padres for like five minutes (well, two years). Not exactly enough time to make much of a mark. And Byrnes has pretty much made the worst of things in the limited time since.

None of that excuses what has transpired in the last 2 1/2 years with the Cubs, but it's much easier and more justifiable to assign (some) blame to Hendry for the Cubs' state in 2011 than it is to assign blame to Hoyer for the Padres' state when Byrnes took over.

false equivalencies is a kyle specialty, though.

McLeod is one of at least 6 candidates who the Padres have requested to interview, per Rosenthal.

quick, name the best non-top-5 pick we've drafted so far under McLeod

Trick question - do you mean drafted or signed?

Bruno, Johnson, or Zastryzny look the best thus far. Blackburn and Underwood are still pretty interesting too.

Brandon McCarthy to the Yanks for Vidal Nuno. Good deal for NY.

And thus the Diamondbacks have established a new all time level for selling low.

I'm guessing he's been terrible, but they're already paying him and its not like he'd take ABs away from anybody worthwhile at the moment. Bring him in hope he goes on a Soriano hot streak and flip him again
