Diamondbacks are paying the Yankees 2m to take McCarthy from them. Dumbest org in baseball?

It's pretty incredible. My DBacks fan friends are just beyond exasperated at this point.

This might be the reason (MLBTR) -The Diamondbacks placed now-Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy on waivers six to eight weeks ago, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets. That means anyone could have claimed him and assumed the remainder of his $9MM salary for 2014. No one bit.

I think McCarthy would be an interesting option for the 2015 Cubs, on a 1-2 year deal. He still doesn't walk many people. His K rate is the highest its ever been this year. His BABIP against him is around .350 (worst of his career), and he's giving up way too many HRs. Not sure what his velocity is like this year, but he does have an injury history.

He also has a twitter history, which the Cubs don't like.

OFs Allen Craig and Randal Grichuk both not in lineups tonight. Something could be brewing. #STLCards #RedSox

there's been talk today about a Peavy to the Cardinals trade. I think my fantasy team would appreciate the AL->NL switch.

Um, isn't that kind of a lot for Peavy? 4.81FIP 4.46xFIP, K rate down, BB rate up velocity down to 89.7MPH from 90.3. More would have to be coming from Boston right?

Craig has been terrible and plays on a roster with Holliday/Jay/Taveras/Bourjos/Adams for OF/1B, so I wouldn't think anything of him not playing tonight(especially against a RH SP). Grichuk could be something, and if anything a slight overpay IMO, but maybe we were trendsetters and STL is getting a little desperate for arms.

From the Boston Globe's Red Sox beat writer

Farrell said the #RedSox would have a “move of some sort” after the game tonight.

Cafardo on NESN: "The Red Sox and Cardinals will work the Peavy deal easily once they work out the money."

@DavidHallVP: The #Orioles just released RHP Tim Alderson. Former 1st-round pick by SF was 2-4 with a 6.12 ERA in 28 relief appearances for AAA Norfolk.

25 Years old. Former 1st rounder. Former top prospect. Theo Signal, activate. Underachieving, young pitcher; Bosio Signal, activate.

Bonus; Not Edwin Jackson

I remember when the Pirates acquired him for Freddy Sanchez and being pretty jealous of the Pirates. Jesus he's been around forever, can't believe he's only 25. That said, his numbers are really bad. It'd be one thing if he had some MLB experience, but he has zero. and he's got awful numbers as a reliever, no less. He sure has pitched a [expletive] load of innings as a reliever in the minors, though

Iowa is going to be losing 2 starters after the All Star break, and it's not like Tennessee has anyone chomping at the bit to take their place. I'd much rather somebody with a glimmer of hope than some AAAA journeyman.

You guys do realize Alderson no longer has the stuff that once made him a first rounder.

There will be 4 starters available for Iowa(4 of Hendricks/Wada/Rusin/Beeler/Jokisch/Straily) after the all-star break, plus Pimentel who's been starting there all year long. There isn't a hole that needs filled.

I don't know what kind of stuff he has or had, but if he has any of it left, we have the guy to make it work. Of course that would require him in the bigs. Even so, the next two and a half months will be for a few guys to pad their stats and a bunch of others to audition.

had no idea Craig finally lost his magical fairy dust. I remember Cardinals fans not willing to trade him straight up for Felix Hernandez.

As much luck as we've had with scrap-heapers, we no longer have any business joking about other teams having pixie dust.

I don't think you remember that.
