Generally, I agree with you. Though I do think that they should put clauses in future contracts that give teams the options to terminate contracts as the result of certain types of PED rule violations. Thought I'm sure that's somehow a problem with the current CBA.

What the teams agreed to pay them is what the CBA stipulates and what their contracts stipulate including penalties resulting from PED suspensions. ARod has no one but himself to blame. He said he felt pressured to take PEDs in Texas to live up to his record-setting contract - a contract no one twisted his arm to sign.

OK. You should get vilified for wanting something that you agreed you wouldn't get if you did PEDs when you signed your contract.

Still emphatically no.

Am I the only one saddened by this? A-Rod was an amazing player and it sucks that it ends like this

It does, but mostly at this point I just don't want to see the Yankees get a free pass, when you know damn well no one else would.

Agreed. No one was going to pay ARod what the Yanks did, and they should have to wear that [expletive] [expletive].

But I still think he'll retire. He wasn't been particularly effective when he was been on the field the last time, was in clear decline, and two full years on from that...it probably wouldn't be pretty. But if his ego could handle riding the bench to collect his check, that would be amusing. But sad at the same time (though if it came to that, the Yanks would probably just eat the money and cut him).

twisted his arm to sign? Are you suggesting that he should have told Texas that they were offering too much and refused to sign unless they lowered the amount?

It's awful that his career is ending like this, baseball made so much money marketing these guys when they knew what was up. Now they're taking them all out. So stupid.

The league drew a pretty clear line in the sand. They aren't going after guys for offenses from 2004.

Yeah, I really don't care about prior use, but once the league actually put their foot down I have zero sympathy for anyone who is caught now.

i don't see why some random person would feel sad about a-rod. he's a phoney and a douche. sure he was a supremely talented player, but much like bonds, he made his own bed... now he can lie in it.

I, for one, hate that in their minds this vindicates all the idiotic Yankees fans who went on and on about how ARod wasn't a "true Yankee".

Worse than Bonds, he continued to do it after being outed/outing himself and after PEDs were stigmatized and officially banned. Like Mojo said, anyone who does PEDs now is really not deserving of any sympathy.

which is funny, because a crap-ton of "true yankees" have been on PEDs during the past 15 years. andy pettitte jumps to mind immediately.

But Andy was just doing it to help the team!

Open letter from the brewers to their ticket holders:

Dear Brewers Fans:

This past week has been an admittedly difficult time for everyone who loves the Milwaukee Brewers, including our fans, our corporate and community partners, and employees. We share your frustration and disappointment with the news of Ryan Braun's suspension and the mistakes that Ryan has made. We want you to know that we take this matter very seriously.

We recognize that Ryan has many steps ahead of him to regain your trust and respect. This process will take time, and the road to redemption for Ryan will not be easy. Our responsibility as an organization is to help Ryan appreciate the difficult task ahead of him and to assist in the healing process. At the same time, during this frustrating season, we want to reaffirm what the Brewers stand for as an organization. We believe everyone at the Brewers is accountable to each of you every day, and it is a team effort to meet that responsibility. We have an obligation to ensure that our players give maximum effort at all times. We also remain committed to providing you with the best experience at Miller Park. And we appreciate the tremendous loyalty and support you continue to demonstrate to the team. We never take your passion and our strong relationship with you for granted.

Starting this week, we will be introducing a series of initiatives to reaffirm our commitment to you and all of our fans throughout Wisconsin. We know that these initiatives are not a substitute for success on the field, and our primary mission remains to have a perennially competitive team. As we have previously stated, no single player defines the Milwaukee Brewers, and the success or failure of our organization is not tied to the performance or behavior of any single player. Within the clubhouse walls reside many talented players who will be the centerpieces of what we hope are the next great Milwaukee Brewers teams. This abiding belief is reflected on the cover of our 2013 Media Guide where six players are pictured. We have always maintained that any success the team experiences on the field is not possible without our fans, and we ask you to continue to be a part of the success of our organization.

We deeply appreciate your loyalty, patience, and understanding. On behalf of the entire Brewers organization, you have my pledge that we will overcome these current challenges, and we will reward the best fans in baseball with a team that truly represents our community.

They're also giving a $10 voucher(good for food, merch, tickets) to everyone who shows up with a ticket to an August game. Considering you can get in the door for less than $10, I'm thinking about making the trip for the Reds series.

For weeknight games you can find field level tickets for $25 or so. Like you said, you can usually get upper deck tickets or outfield tickets for $10 or less. Weekend games are a little higher but still cheap.
