oh, and i love this:

Besides Swarbrick and Kelly seeming vaguer than one might hope, there was the Dec. 1, 2010, letter from university lawyer Claire Aigotti to an IOSHA investigator requesting video the Notre Dame film crew had taken that day.

Aigotti said the investigator could view the video in her office but she couldn't ship it because it contained, "highly proprietary trade secret information.''

In the midst of trying to get to the bottom of what caused an avoidable fatality, Notre Dame's still worried about football opponents getting an edge?

go to hell brian kelly:

"It was a beautiful day,'' Kelly told the IOSHA investigator. "We were conducting a normal practice structure when a big gust hit me.''

what a scumbag. i really doubt that he cares that a kid died under his watch.

I remember hearing that teams were thinking about practicing inside that day because of the forecast for high winds. Beautiful day my ass. What an [expletive].

He's full of [expletive]. All throughout the midwest, there were high winds that day with gusts that reached upwards of 60 MPH in some areas.

Tressell and Ferentz both moved practice inside that day because of the wind.

He didn't really say that though, did he? Wasn't the kid that died putting up facebook updates or tweets well before practice saying that he was scared of going up there?

Yep. He tweeted something joking about dying because it was so windy.

Wow the past two weeks coaches would do a much better job shutting up rather than opening their mouths.

dave haugh is a blowhard

Very true, but if those quotes are remotely in context, there's no real defense of Kelly to offer.

what any of us would have said is "i knew the kid was going to die that day, but i sent him up there b/c we're [expletive] ND"

Well that really has nothing to do with the discussion.

um, there were like 3 posts critiquing his comments to the investigator.

you don't think Kelly could have made a more plausible statement about the conditions that day without incriminating himself?

Yes critiquing him for being a blatant liar about the weather. Then you created some exaggerated nonsense that doesn't even fit.

I think he did. I think his statements about that day consist of more than that sentence or two.

good lord, at least we're all homers, not just me. "It was a beautiful day" is what people are taking issue with. I'm sure they were just having a normal practice until they killed the dude.

jesus i love watching GR in this thread. I mean, if even Andy is like "well, maybe it's time to pump the breaks," you know you're acting like a fool

Apparently Blaine was pretty impressive at his Pro Day

Much like with Cam, impressive is what I expect from Gabbert in workouts. Both are physical specimens as far as ability goes.

To me, the important thing to focus on with both Cam and Gabbert is interviews and what teams are hearing behind the scenes, so to speak, about each. Both have all the ability in the world, but both have a lot of work to do to refine themselves into great NFL QBs. Work ethic and intelligence are going to be critical for both and the difference between being Steve McNair/Ben Roethlisberger or JaMarcus Russell/Vince Young.

oh, come on. when ND does anything wrong, Andy collapses faster than you getting up off the couch.

Kelly made the decision to be out there b/c he wants practices outside all the time [i think they've had 2 practices indoors since he took over just more than a year ago]. Inherent in that decision is the assumption that the film kids will be doing their typical jobs. I don't think Kelly knows the specific safety restrictions on all of the equipment and I don't expect him to. But ultimately, this whole thing is on his shoulders. But there is an adult whose job is to know the specifications for the lifts and he/she either didn't know the danger or didn't keep the kids from going up in the lifts when they did. It's also possible that the kid himself didn't read the safety instructions. What kid has ever read an instruction manual for anything he's ever owned (except kyle)?

that's a really long, drawn out way of saying, I don't think you're going to find that anyone, especially not Kelly, explicitly told the kid to go up in the scissor lift that day. That seems to be what that blowhard Haugh, and possibly folks in this thread, expect to find. But what you're also not likely to find, is that anyone told him not to go up there. That's troubling and a large part of the reason ND got fined. That's not Kelly's job, it's far below him, but he's ultimately responsible as the HC. Does that mean he's some evil person? That sort of "logical" leap seems faulty to me and what I take issue with.

That all seemed fairly boring to flesh out, esp since most of the posters here either don't like or actively hate ND. But since you asked so nicely, there you go.

have you ever been to south bend in the fall/early winter? it's gray and often windy, rainy, snowy, crappy. that's why Kelly wants to practice outside all the time. any day between October and May that doesn't rain/snow/sleet and also gives you actual, real deal sunlight, is [expletive] gorgeous.

they don't call it 'permacloud' for nothing.

C'mon. It's South Bend, not Siberia. Nobody thinks a day with wind gusts up to 60mph is "beautiful."
