Yikes. Willie Lyles asked A&M for $80K for Patrick Peterson.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6275253

Lyles ties to Petterson are finally coming out. Petterson's fathers comments are not going to be helpful towards LSU who has a long history with Lyles. It's also been long reported he had ties to Bennett and Goodson. This might also force A&M to stay away from Trey Williams and Matt Davis in this next years class who have both already been connected to Lyles.

Between LSU and Auburn the sec [expletive] is finally starting to hit the fan.

Are they just going to retroactively award the last 10 football and basketball titles to Vanderbilt then?

There were 2 "predictions" I made in this thread. One was about a story that would be coming out soon, which just did yesterday. The other was a stupid comment that Paterno would coach his last game in the bowl, which is honestly yet to be proven wrong.

One of them I knew to be fact, the other was more of a guess based on the knowledge of the first story. Rip on me all you want, but I'm 1 for 1 so far, looking like I will end up 1 for 2, but there's plenty of time left to end up 2 for 2.

I didn't watch the HBO special, and my work has been too crazy for me to delve too deeply into football message boards. Were specific boosters named? The two most recent players fall within the NCAA's statute of limitations, so if there is evidence of wrongdoing by a booster, then AU could have scholarships reduced, be put on probation, etc. Even if a football coach, his staff, and the athletic department are running a clean program, i have no idea how one is able to police rogue boosters. (not sure if that is the category this would fall into or not without watching the show) I'll have to 'On Demand' the special sometime this weekend. None of the players were on the championship team last year, obviously, so that isn't a concern with these allegations.

All of the black smoke surrounding the football program is troubling...watching a solid, competitive football team is a lot of fun though...difficult for me to resolve internally being a morally challenged Southerner and all...

why are we talking around "this thing"? Are we talking about Sandusky?

Yes, the man you went to church with as a youth had such a place in your heart that you refused to believe me when I told you about this investigation back in September, so you decided to label me a blowhard know-nothing across various other threads. Remember that?

no, you said that the outback bowl would feature two retiring head coaches. paterno dying before september does not make you correct, he has to retire.

you also said with confidence that tom bradley would be leaving to be head coach at pitt and would take a bunch of assistants with him. swing and a miss.

Dang, Stephen Garcia must really be a f--- up

http://www.ajc.com/sports/gamecocks-suspend-qb-stephen-901091.html

South Carolina's Stephen Garcia was suspended indefinitely from the football program, less than two weeks after the quarterback guaranteed he would not get in trouble again.

"Stephen has exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student-athletes," he said. "Therefore, he has forfeited the privilege to participate in any football related activity until further notice."

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said the suspension would last through the spring semester and his status beyond that would be determined at a later date.

"If he's back, he's back. If he's not back, it's really the same thing as a guy getting hurt, a guy going pro or whatever," Spurrier said. "Players come and go as we all know. This instance should have never happened, but it did. So this is where we are."

He helped the Gamecocks win the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division title and earn a trip to the league's championship game last fall. Garcia leads all SEC returning quarterbacks in passing yards and was expected to form a formidable offensive trio along with tailback Marcus Lattimore and receiver Alshon Jeffery

An Auburn site is leveling some pretty detailed accusations against Alabama's recruitment of Brent Calloway

CFT[/url]"]By way of Mr. SEC.com, Jeffrey Lee of Rivals.com‘s Auburn site appeared on an Alabama radio station this morning and, in essence, accused Alabama of paying for Calloway’s talents. Mr. SEC.com has the bullet points of the explosive things Lee said went on financially between an Alabama supporter, Calloway and at least one member of Calloway’s family.

* A supporter of Alabama took Calloway to Tuscaloosa multiple times including the weekend prior to national signing day.

* The supporter allegedly then drove Calloway out of state and kept him there until he returned to his hometown of Russellville, Alabama on signing day.

* Before Calloway’s final trip to Tuscaloosa pre-signing day, the Bama supporter allegedly made cash payments to Harland “Peaches” Winston who is Calloway’s adoptive father.

* Winston supposedly received $2,500 from the Bama fan on at least one occasion.

* Supposedly, Winston also received aid in catching up on his home mortgage.

* The fan also allegedly provided Calloway with a new car that the player drove to school. Supposedly enough questions were asked about the car that it was returned on the same day.

* Allegedly, the car was purchased by the Bama supporter from a dealership in Muscle Shoals owned by yet another Alabama supporter.

* Supposedly, the supporter told Calloway that he would receive $1,200 per month while playing at Alabama.
