i like the part where their entire football team and basketball team getting cars from one dealership didn't raise any red flags.

I like the part that they're investigating this stuff again even though Pryor driving loaner cars 3 separate times were said to be okay by OSU in the past. I still can't get over that.

Anyone need a QB? Tyler Gabbert transferring.

What's the story with him? Iowa is on his list of 5 schools but Ferentz never really takes transfers.

good release, good arm strength. not ideal size. i think he's a better QB than james franklin, but maybe not a fit in our system. i think he's a solid D1 QB.

Completely off topic, but the Big 12 is going to change its name, isn't it? I mean, we can't possibly go a college football season with a 12-team conference named Ten and a 10-team conference named 12, can we?

He's also transferring because of some supposed mystery factor that isn't related to the QB competition, but he's not angry with the coaches. I think it's great, since neither of them was going to reach their potential while splitting the reps competing for the job. I like Franklin better anyway too, so I'm excited to see him be the guy this fall.

I agree, I'm glad it clears things up a bit and one of them can develop. I think Berkstresser is better than any of them though (or, should I say, could be better than any of them).

Doubtful

I'm all for just calling it the SWC.

Letting TCU go to the Big East rather than joining the Big 12 looks worse and worse

Why?

Yeah in the end its not going to matter as Texas will still eventually leave (3-4 years) and the conference will fall apart.

Because it was the best regional team available

But if TCU has to find another conference come 2014 or 15 they might be better off joining the Big East now rather than waiting and having that guaranteed BCS money now assuming they can win the Big East.

TCU has zero value to the Big 12. Geographically/TV wise it adds nothing, basketball they're a wasteland, they aren't a good bet to maintain their football success longterm, and they're a tiny university without academic prestige. They'd just be another mouth to feed.

Mark Emmert wants to start hitting NCAA rule-breakers hard.

The governing body's president said Tuesday he wants schools that violate the rules to pay a stiff penalty -- one that's punitive enough to make coaches and others think twice about cheating.

"We need to make sure our penalty structure and enforcement process imposes a thoughtful level of concern, and that the cost of violating the rules costs more than not violating them," Emmert said.

He offered no specifics, though Emmert already has taken a tough tack.

One down, 49 to go. In slightly more spiriting news for Buckeye fans, state documents show that former defensive lineman Thaddeus Gibson did in fact pay $13,700 for a 2007 Chrysler 300C in June 2007. The Columbus Dispatch reported over weekend — as part of its larger story about OSU's internal investigation into Buckeye athletes and their families buying en masse from two local auto dealers — that documents obtained by the paper listed the sale price on Gibson's car as $0, though Gibson claimed he paid and was "still paying." No other Buckeye-related sales under scrutiny were listed as freebies.

50% off a car? How is that considered okay?

Also, the title wasn't issued until almost a year later. That seems legit.

I've been doing a lot of "work" from home lately and caught tons of SEC news and spring games. For anyone that is interested, here is what I gather based on what I've heard and seen and people I've talked to who actually cover this stuff. Yes, I have tons of time on my hands. I have the flu.

LSU-The defense will be salty and the talent that left will be replaced yet again by All Americans ready to step in. The skill positions are nasty fast. It's the same story though, no one to get the receivers the ball. Mettenberger will be pretty good at some point, but he is not up to speed. He has Jarrett Lee-like interception issues.

Bama-Will be Bama. They better be able to run the ball with Trent Richardson because the QBs are new and making no one forget about McElroy-it might take some time. That said, there front sevens on both sides are nearly NFL caliber. Much better as the year goes on.

Auburn-Way Down. They are replacing nearly everybody and if you saw them last year you know Cam won most of their games by himself. Independence Bowl if anything. Very nice RB's.

Miss State-Ready to make a leap I think. This could be a big year. Their dual threat QB is only getting better and what's more THEY think they are winning the West. Maybe not, but very good.

Arkansas-Ready to make another leap. Many think that they will be better with Tyler Wilson at QB who fits Petrino's system better than Mallett. Knile Davis rushed for nearly 1400 yards last year with only half a season as the premier RB. Defense improved tons last year and expecting the same. Strengths are maybe the best receiving corps in the country, RB, defensive front seven. Weaknesses are young but talented OTs and CBs. Plays at Bama and LSU though.

Ole Miss-Wow. Could be a very long year. For the 2nd straight year, whoever starts at QB will not have an SEC snap under their belts. Bolden is a great RB. Defense could be really, really bad. Defensive captain and middle LB tore his ACL in the spring. That coaching seat is going to get hot.

If the sinus medication keeps me awake, I will run through the East.

Nice rundown. Your summary of Arkansas is, almost word for word, what I as an Arkansas fan would have said about the team going into this season. I think the passing game will be roughly the same. Wilson won't make all the throws that Mallett can, but he'll make enough of them. And he'll have the help of one of the 2 or 3 best backs in college football from day one to do it, too. My big question marks are how the 3 new starters on the offensive line fit in and how the secondary will advance with some new talent and extra experience. If the results are good, I like them to win the West and probably the SEC. If they're only okay, the may still have a chance, but will likely fight with LSU and Mississippi State for the #2 spot. Pretty exciting season to come either way. Schedule sets up nicely. Alabama on the road is a tough one, but they get them early in the year, which is ideal.
