Anyone hearing all these rumors about a news source publishing a report on a major D1 school commiting massive violations? Supposedly, it could be devastating for the school. There are rumors on many different Rivals and Scout message boards.

Any specific schools being mentioned?

No, just speculation that it's a school you wouldn't expect. It'll prob turn out to be nothing.

I've heard nothing. School we wouldn't expect would eliminate the entire SEC. I'm going to guess Oklahoma State. T Boone Pickens has way too much money.

I wouldn't mind that. Ok state really pisses me off for some reason.

Tapes Claim Cam Newton was in room while being shopped to Mississippi State.

Moore says that on some of the tapes it's evident that Cam was in the room while Cecil was shopping him. This blows the lid off of the Auburn argument that Cam didn't know he was being shopped.

The tapes would likely point some blame on not only Auburn, but Tennessee and Mississippi State as well. This may explain some of the NCAA and SEC's actions. The SEC knew that this could seriously damage the conference. If multiple schools from the SEC are bidding on players, everything the SEC has done in the past 5 years is brought into question. It also will add fuel to the fire of those that claim that paying players happens at every university.

Moore says that Dan Mullen and Mississippi State told Cam that they would not pay him, and if he went somewhere else they would turn him in. The interesting thing about this is that it would still put Mississippi State on the hot seat. Mississippi State left the scholarship offer on the table for Cam after knowing he was asking for money to play.

Next it will come out that Cecil Newton stood on the platform while Cam was next to him Mullins and Chizik in the room at the same time and Cecil saying, "I got 180k, 180k going once, going twice....oh now it's 200k, going once, going twice...sold to the Auburn Tigers!"

Has anyone heard the tape? I'll reserve judgement until I personally hear the audio, but I've been told that Cecil makes no mention of Auburn offering money in this tape. If Cecil were sitting across a negotiating table from you, would you believe him if he told you he had another offer from Tennessee, Auburn, or any other school? I wouldn't trust Cecil to employ good faith negotiating tactics.

at this point, I doubt Moore has heard any audio that the NCAA and FBI haven't already heard. I also doubt that he's heard an audio that makes it truly evident that Cam was in the room when Cecil was negotiating with MSU boosters. The Cam Newton scandal is big business...clicks on your website, listeners on your radio show, etc...just ask Thayer Evans, Sports by Brooks, or Paul Finebaum. Moore is supposed to have a new radio show in the Huntsville, AL market in the near future from what I've heard, and I'm sure this little interview he gave on another radio show will drum up some listeners. I'll wait to see how it plays out, but I'm skeptical about the validity of this report.

I tend to agree with this.

On the Tennessee part of the rumors - while it wouldn't surprise me in the least (I kind of expect it) to find out that Lane was offering up cash for players, offering for Cam would be odd. It took Lane a while to even offer a scholarship to Cam and he was very skeptical about whether Cam would fit his system or not. It seems like quite a jump to go from questioning whether you should even offer a scholarship all the way to offering 200k in cash for the player.

Again, though, it wouldn't stun me if true.

Tiderinsider is evidently 'reporting' that John Bond will appear on Scott Moore's new radio show in two weeks and play these supposed tapes. My perception is that the NCAA has already heard these tapes and John Bond is now cashing in on them....and Scott Moore gave the interview on which he mentioned these tapes as part of a marketing campaign for his show.

Isn't HBO or somebody doing a story on Bond' tapes or something like that? If so, that's another angle Bond and Moore could be pumping up.

I've heard a lot of rumblings about Oregon but nothing I'd consider a solid source yet.

Oh, Oregon would be a good possibility with all the Phil Knight/Nike stuff there.

That was my first thought. Though the NCAA should hand down a sanction just for their new floor of the basketball court.

I've been known to have bad taste in what a good field is (I still love the smurf turf and EWU's red turf), but I find Oregon's floor pretty cool. That could change if I watched an entire game played on that floor, though.

I'm not going to link sports by brooks, but I'm told even he seems to think that Moore's assertions aren't accurate.

The Newtons should hire Anthony Davis's lawyer.

if by lawyer, you mean mr newton screaming unintelligibly about suing everyone, i agree.

JUST WAIT 2 MORE WEEKS!!! I SWEAR!!!

I'm sure you'd consider sports by brooks a solid source if he said otherwise

Colin Cowherd has jumped on this "major violation by major program" story:

Here's Cowherd from the show:

I received an interesting text about 10 days ago, and this should be very frightening if you’re a fan of college football, that a major program in this country is going to be outed very soon for major recruiting violations. It is a top 10-12 program. I know what I think it is according to both my sources; I received another tip last night. I went to Vince Doria, who is sort of the journalistic editor at this company. He had heard the exact same thing. We are pursuing this story with vigor. A major publication is about to unseat a major college football power on recruiting violations. I will tell you from my source, it is not — it is not — Auburn. I will leave it at that. It is a major program and a major publication. When we can validate more… I have not been able to validate it nor has this company. We’re both pursuing it.

The Oregonian's John Canzano says it's not Oregon.

Made some calls. A reliable source high in the athletic department said everyone there was ”surprised” to hear about the rumors. They have not been contacted by the NCAA on this matter, nor anyone else.
