i'm kinda surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often...a player dying during the season, that is.

I dunno, how often should you expect a random sampling of 750 healthy, in shape 20-40 year olds to die during a 6 month period?

750 healthy, financially well off 20-40 year olds in America, nonetheless.

i don't think a person's financial status or arm strength would save them in a car crash.

No, but it's probably a factor in their mortality rate, no? This wasn't just a discussion about car crashes, I thought you were just talking about a death of any kind.

True, but if a ballplayer has the same chance of dying in a car accident as the average American, then a ballplayer will only die in one once every 10 years.

Their lifestyle habits would increase their chances of a fatal crash, but their health decreases those chances.

The hit and run driver must have been flying. And that must have been one hell of a minivan he was driving; he killed every occupant in the other car but was not only able to flee, but flee successfully.

I'm assuming Adenhart's car was an Evo, as that's the only Mitsubishi worth having. They're small, but I'm surprised everyone died.

cue the "what was he doing out at 12:30 in the morning" faux outrage

Who the heck would be surprised that a 22 year old is still out at 12:30, gramps?

And the fact it isn't all that late the game probably ended at what 10/10:30? He pitched last night and had a good game so I am sure he talked to a lot of press being a big prospect and all. Then take in time in the clubhouse after the game, talking to teammates and coaches/shower/change/ice/treatment. He probably didn't get out of there until 11:30 or so.

literally no one has said that.

No, but I was waiting for it.

Besides, after Josh Hancock it's not much of a leap to assume the worst about a pitcher out partying.

I find it odd that as of 11:41 eastern, ESPN.com still has nothing on this story, while several media outlets are reporting it.

[imb]east coast bias[/imb]

Didn't ESPN just open a LA bureau and studios in an effort to loose some of the east coast bias?

On espn news one of the reporters says the Van was going 80 MPH and flew through the Red light then tried to flee on foot but was caught by the cops.

One of my acquiescence said mentioned a year or two ago that he played ball in with him when he was younger said he was a good guy such a tragedy.

Hit and run drivers should receive a mandatory jail sentence every time. If a person is killed as a result it should be deemed murder one.

I have no sympathy or tolerance for hit and run drivers.I hope they throw the book at him.

I don't know the laws in California but I am sure this waste of space will be in Jail for an awful long time.

He did kill three people as of now with a fourth in the hospital. I'm pretty sure he's completely screwed.

This is a really sad story, I remember watching Adenhart pitch against the Cubs in spring training a few weeks ago. He looked pretty good, and had a good career ahead of him. It's always a sad story when a 22 year dies, but the fact that he pitched so well last night and was probably really happy. Makes me feel like this is even more tragic for some reason.

A female was driving the car; it wasn't an Evo.

Perhaps a Spyder?
