Ok, I was planning on using this pick to shore up the offensive line or maybe the defensive line (DE or DT). However, free agency changed these plans a lot. We lost two of our starting three linebackers from last year and a starting safety without replacing them. I think that a safety can still be found in free agency or later in the draft, so linebacker is the pick here. With the 24th pick the Atlanta Falcons select Clint Sintim OLB Virginia.

There is no way the falcons would be able to justify taking a TE in the first round.

This is around the area where I start liking Sintim. I've PM'd Warpticon.

The Miami Dolphins had a fantastic turnaround season in 2008, coming from 1-15 the previous season to 11-5, a division title, and a playoff berth this past one. They thrived on being okay to good in most areas and being exceptional at not giving the ball away. However, for the Dolphins to continue to be a playoff team, they cannot depend on such things to get them ahead. Never was this more evident as in their playoff game, when Chad Pennington threw 4 interceptions against the Ravens after having thrown 7 all season long prior. The Dolphins don't have an explosive enough offense or stout enough defense to come back, and to persist as a top team, they need to get stronger at the point of attack.

The Dolphins' offensive line was pretty mediocre this season, though mediocrity was a sizable improvement over the previous year. Outside of #1 pick rookie and Pro Bowl alternate Jake Long at one tackle and Vernon Carey at the other, the line lacked consistency, especially after losing both starting guards to injuries before the midpoint in the season. Rookie standout Samson Satele suffered a bit of a slump in his second season, and the second stringers at guard were merely adequate. On the defensive side, The Dolphins boasted solid depth on the offensive line, but they struggled to get any pass rush outside of Jerry Porter. On the other hand, they did work several young players into the rotation who haven't seen their potential yet.

The problem here is that most of the linemen targeted on either side of the board are off the board, and many of the others on the Dolphins' board would be somewhat of a reach or could possibly be available at a later pick. This would be a great position to either trade down or up, but given the constraints of this draft, the Dolphins choose to shore up the outside to take some pressure off the interior guys.

The Dolphins' secondary was highly inconsistent, though it did improve over the course of the season. Still, the Dolphins would like a potential shutdown type back or a quality interception threat. They look at Sean Smith, who has terrific size, but they already have a guy like that in Jason Allen, and he hasn't done much in his time in Miami thus far. D.J. Moore's lack of size and pedestrian speed is a concern at this pick. On the offensive side, the Dolphins have a trio of solid receivers in Ted Ginn Jr, Greg Camarillo, and Davone Bess. Bess really came on late last year, and Ginn has shown flashes of being a big play threat. But Camarillo is coming off a major knee injury,, and there's a lack of deep speed outside of Ginn. The Dolphins roll the dice on a player with pedestrian numbers but tremendous upside and athleticism, selecting WR Darrius Heyward-Bey of the University of Maryland.

Wow, that was ridiculously long-winded.

I keep watching guys I targeted fall off the board. I love Heyward-Bey's potential and would like to see him fall to the Titans. Good analysis, by the way.

I have PM'd WrigleyField 22.

Alright, this is getting silly. Almost my entire board has been trashed right now in just the past 3-4 picks.

I'm going to make a crazy pick here pretty soon if my final player falls. I PM'd CCP for the Colts war room.

I'm going to give Exile until around noon to give his thoughts on the pick. If you feel strongly about a player Exile, you can make the pick. If you have a couple players in mind, you can pass it back to me with those names and I'll pick between them.

well i was probably going to draft a certain position with the 28th pick, and assumed that the dropoff would be less than the dropoff if i let britton go... that's looking like a good choice.

You're the GM, I'm only the assistant. I'll mention a few players and show my work:

The typical mock draft at this point would have the Colts pick a DT since that's their weakest spot (or perhaps a LB with the recent purge). As for DT's, I don't really think Brace or Hood or whomever is worthy of this spot. The Colts/Polian can get equal value in one of the next two rounds. I also don't think there is a linebacker the Colts would pick here even if they wanted to.

So, I'm going go all Polian and surprise and all Colts and pick offense. Either Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt at WR wouldn't surprise me. However, with the way this draft has transpired, I think RB is the best value. The Colts could also use a back to pair with Addai (and perhaps replace him after next year). So that leaves LeSean McCoy, Chris Wells and Knoshown Moreno. I'm dubious the Colts would pick Wells. The combination of running, blocking and especially receiving add up to the Colts, in my opinion, taking Knoshown Moreno.

Those are my thoughts, I won't blame you if you go another direction.

I would agree with the DT comments. I briefly considered Laurinitis at LB because the Colts love production and love the Big 10, but they would have to transition slightly to a different defense to pick him and they also hate picking LB that high.

That leaves me with RB and WR. RB has the better talent while WR has better fits. Wells is not the Colts type of RB at all. I initially dismissed Moreno as I had heard poor things about his blocking, but after researching him further more sites than not have him as a willing blocker. And that was really the only thing keeping me from picking him as that's a necessary piece of being in that offense.

The Colts with the 27th pick in the draft select Knowshon Moreno out of Georgia.

I will go ahead and PM Truffle for the next pick.

correll buckhalter has headed out to denver and Lord knows that westbrook isn't likely to stay healthy for an entire season, so RB is a definite need for the eagles. i don't know that beanie wells is a great fit for a west coast offense, but he's extremely talented and will help with our 3rd/4th-and-short problems that we had last year.

Well, my fearless leader isn't about at the moment and being the second-in-command I can't make the pick without him (yet).

I've PMd him, however, and my thoughts are to go with a LB of some sort - probably either Clay Matthews or James Laurinaitis (and move him outside). The Giants don't have many weaknesses, but Danny Clark's OLB spot is probably as close as they get.

I hope one more Colt-specific post doesn't constitute hijacking the thread.

I thought about mentioning Laurinitis. I know some have soured on him, but I still really like him. Like you, I just don't see how he'd fit with the Colts. I think he'll be solid as a pro though.

Keep our fingers crossed a good DT falls and is available in round two.

Right about now is when I'm wishing SD had a 2nd round pick, or we could trade for one.

I wish the Cowboys had a 1st round pick. Hakeem Nicks is looking pretty good today.

When does high school let out in Colorado? I'm getting impatient waiting on Skyballer.

Is he a Giants fan? How did that happen?

Just make the pick.

He wanted the Giants. I'll give him more time since it really hasn't been that long since Truffle made his pick.

I'm just bored at work right now.

Sky Ball means to me to me that everytthing all happened from there. I originally lived in Jersey before CO and the saying was quite frequent out there.

Okay that makes even less sense now. What did he say?

it says he grew up in jersey, i'm assuming that's why he's a giants fan. and uses the term skyball.

No, I understood that he lived in Jersey, what I don't understand is the meaning he attaches to skyball. I've lived in Jersey for 10 years and have been around north and south jersey for 14 and I've never heard the phrase.

I also don't know any Giants fans from Jersey. Every Giants fan I know is from NY or PA. Jersey is jetsland, outside the southern part, as you well know.

I'm from Jersey. It was determined he meant "snowball" not skyball.

And I know a lot of Giants fans in north Jersey.
