I still haven't heard anything from Skyballer, so I guess I'll go ahead with the pick before time runs out.

The Giants don't have many needs, but could use depth at a few spots. They also might need a top-line WR if Plax ends up going to jail. The receiving corps is currently deep, but not very top heavy. If Plax misses the season, the #1 receiver for the Giants will be either Domenik Hixson or Amani Toomer. That said, there's not a standout receiver left on the board and there's still a decent chance that Plax will return.

So, the Giants choose to fill their only other need. The linebacking corps is solid, but one outside spot is currently held by Danny Clark and could stand to be upgraded.

So, with the 29th pick in the draft, the Giants select OLB from USC, Clay Matthews. I thought strongly about Laurinaitis, but Matthews is a more natural OLB and Laurinaitis would have to play out of position if he were the pick.

All through the offseason with the Titans, I've heralded the need for wide receivers. That need still exists, though the addition of Nate Washington eased it quite a bit. Also, the only sure thing 1st round WRs, in my opinion, in the draft are off the board and it'd be too much of a reach at this point to grab one. I've also looked at corners to replace Nick Harper next year (my preferences of DJ Moore and Darius Butler are gone, however).

So, I've decided to reach a bit at another position. While this is admittedly a bit too early to take this player, I don't have the capability to trade down and I think DL coach Jim Washburn could do well working with this player. He's big and athletic and a hard worker from all accounts, leading me to believe he has a solid amount of upside. He'll also help to ease the loss a bit of Albert Haynesworth as he works more into the DT rotation.

So, with the 30th pick in the draft, the Tennessee Titans select DT from Missouri, Evander "Ziggy" Hood.

The Arizona Cardinals - and Flames and CubFanNotBudMan - are now on the clock. I will PM them.

I'll be honest, when Skyballer didn't show, I was half expecting dew to trade the Giants pick to the Titans for cash considerations.

Trust me, it was tempting. :-)) I had the power to do it.

This is a real simple choice for me. Arizona didn't really have much of a running game until the playoffs, but Edgerrin James wants to be cut, JJ Arrington went to Denver, and I don't believe Tim Hightower can handle a full workload by himself. Arizona needs a running back in the worst way possible. Unfortunately, Moreno and Beanie were both taken right before this pick but I'll say Arizona selects LeSean McCoy out of Pitt.

I'd like to hear what CFNBM says.

There's no unfortunately - LeSean McCoy is better than Beanie and Moreno.

Is that the official pick, or do you want to wait for CFNBM to chime in before making it official?

This was his post from Monday:

24 day bump... leaving me hanging and I'm going to be in Japan next Monday.

I might wait a little bit, but I wouldn't wait too long for him as he has a decent shot of being there already (and I apologize to him if he actually isn't and shows up later).

Given what the rest of my day looks like, if the other AZ guy doesn't show, it could be tomorrow before I pick. I think Shady McCoy probably should be the AZ pick, so I'll make my pick and include a backup just in case I get snaked.

The champs, if they are to climb the stairway to seven, need help in a few areas, OL, DB, and WR. The Steelers undoubtedly won the Super Bowl with the worst offensive line of any champ in history. Max Starks and Willie Colon each resigned, but Colon sucks and Starks is only adequate. Kemouatu resigned, which is good, but they cut Simmons loose and Stapleton was only passable. Basically what I'm saying is that any of the three OL positions could be improved by taking Beattie, Robinson, or Mack. There isn't really a corner or a safety out there that I like in this spot, nor a 3-4 DE. Thus...

The Steelers select Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma. Robinson is a mauler at G that will go well with the Steelers running attack and should replace Stapleton from day one. He is also versatile enough to play RT, if necessary.

If the Cardinals get cute and take Robinson, I'll take William Beatty, OT, Connecticut.

I'll check in tomorrow.

Since we're right on the edge of advancing rounds, I've listed the second round order of selection in the first post of this thread.

As soon as we completely finish the first round, I'll put it in spoiler tags so the post won't be so long. I'll probably repeat that process for each round we complete.

You think? I like Moreno, McCoy, then Beanie in that order. All are pretty close though.

That's kind of how I am. And there really is little separation between the three for me as well.

I'm surprised Brandon Pettigrew's still on the board.

Character issues and not a lot of need at TE is hurting him right now, I think.

I like him and Jared Cook a decent amount, though.

I like both of those guys too. I just don't need a TE in round 2 and Pettigrew's at the top of my board.

I was looking at TEs until the Titans franchised Bo Scaife. Now, unless I can get a steal I'm not investing a pick in a fourth TE, certainly behind Alge Crumpler and Scaife.

I think Pettigrew will be a steal by the time he gets to you again...but I doubt he does.

When are we finishing the first round? I'm having fun crossing names off my big board (and realizing how lame that sounds).

It's not lame at all, I'm already figuring up who I think might fall to the Titans in the second and third round.

And we'll finish the second round as soon as Flames is comfortable announcing his pick as final (or until he runs out of time, but hopefully it won't take that long).

Looks like I'm slacking...

might as well run with it, i don't think the real life consequences are going to be really dire if he whiffs on his pick or something. just do a mock GM meetings later on if he has buyers remorse about it.

It could mean the end of life as we know it if we jump the gun on this. Just think about that Cro Magnon.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when it comes to TEs. Pettigrew is completely fungible.
