Do you "shore" up something or do you "sure" it up?

Shore. Bob Marley stirs it up.

I wondered which one was right as I was typing it. I say it as "shore" but admittedly I don't know if it's right. Mike Greenberg on Mike and Mike this morning actually said it "sure."

You're right; he's wrong. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/shore+up

I think I should have said, more accurately, that Bob Marley steers it up.

Thanks. I've never looked into it and that's just what I've always said.

Detroit's gamble on Smith isn't looking so good right now, he bombed his pro day today.

Well, with no sign of Skyballer for 12 hours now, I'll go ahead and announce his pick.

The Giants don't have a great number of needs, but one potentially big need lies at wide receiver. With the Plaxico situation still completely up in the air, it's difficult to use a first round pick on a wide receiver, but the New York offense would be greatly lacking if Burress doesn't play and there's no replacement.

So, the time has come to take the proper precautions in case Plax departs from the team. With the 45th pick in the draft, the New York Giants select WR Ramses Barden from Cal Poly SLO. He's a big (6'6), physical receiver who needs development and is a bit raw, but has the ability and potential to be the big target in the red zone the Giant offense is lacking. A young corner also has to be considered here, but there's more depth at corner than there is at receiver right now, so Barden is the pick.

Rawaction is now on the clock with Houston's second round selection. I will PM him.

Houston went CB in the first round, because Vontae Davis was pretty good value at 15 and the LB we targeted (Cushing of USC) was off the board. Houston is a team that has historically had horrible pass defenses. So, again the Texans go DB and select:

Rashad Johnson, FS University of Alabama.

This may have been answered earlier in the thread, but I didn't see it anywhere. How many rounds is this draft planning on lasting?

We never really set a limit, so I guess we'll just go until we stop. I don't know how much interest there will be to do the sixth and seventh rounds (or if we'll have time for those), but I suppose we'll just go til we stop.

It is my opinion that NE traded for this pick with a specific player in mind. The player is still on the board.

The Pats acquired this pick from San Diego on draft day last year along with a fifth rounder so that the Chargers could take Jacob Hester.

That's some awesome long term scouting if they had a player in mind last year that they wanted to take in this year's draft with that pick.

Yeah, they're really good.

Actually, I meant the KC pick, which I should know is gone since they picked before my second rounder. Shows how much I'm paying attention...

Connor Barwin. I don't mind saying it now because I know there's no way he'll be there for my third round pick. I wanted him there for my second rounder in case Beatty and English were gone.

Sounds interesting, if not a bit raw. As a D-Lineman I'd certainly take Ayers and Gilbert over him, though.

A bit raw, but very Vrabel-esque. He'd be a great SAM for their 3-4.

I can see it. The rawness may preclude him from the second round, though.

did i say Andre Smith?

i think what i meant was Jason Smith

Just keep holding firm to this:

character issues and combine overreactions are what have players who kicked ass throughout college slipping to successful teams where fans of the other teams wonder "hey why didn't we take that guy?" Randy Moss and Terrell Suggs, for example.

After the Combine Barwin joined Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. as OLBs that I would like to see the Packers draft in the second or third round. Both of them I view as great prospects that have the potential to turn into amazing rush linebackers because of their athleticism and intelligence. This is despite the fact that both are raw, and would most likely take some time to develop.

I also like Jarron Gilbert but if jame.gumb is looking to draft an OLB then Gilbert is off the board since he will be a DE in a 3-4. I'm not sure where I stand on Robert Ayers. While I do like his potential I don't think he is an ideal fit anywhere in a 3-4. He's too small to play DE, and I question if he is athletic enough to play OLB. He looks like he would be a much better fit as a DE in a 4-3.

Yeah, I like Ayers better in a 4-3 scheme than a 3-4.

I'm falling in love with Ayres. I'd even go as far as to pick him at 18 if I'm the Bears, assuming he's the best DE on the board then and maybe even if Oher is still on the board. I like Sidbury a lot too. I don't know that he'd last all the way to mid-3rd, though.

I've pretty much committed to wanting the Bears to draft DE, OL, WR in any order in the first 3 rounds.

Ayers was an absolute stud entering college, but had serious motivation issues (that he'll readily admit to now) his first couple of years at UT. Since getting serious about bettering himself, he's become a really good player.

I think the character issues are behind him now and had they never been there, I don't think it's a stretch to think he'd be a top 5 type pick - he's got that kind of talent, I think.

His senior bowl practice tape is excellent. He showed speed, strength, and every move possible for the DE position. I think those issues are behind him too, and if Marinelli's reputation is true, then the Bears should have nothing to worry about.
