The thing I was looking to find out is from what Donnie told you raisin, is the source a good enough one that, if true, the source would know what he was talking about?

Meaning, its not like the Padres team janitor that overheard something, but its like a person who is in the know.

Yes...if true, this source would know what he was talking about.

HE?

You just cut the number of potential sources in half you fool.

You assumed it was a he, not my fault.

:)

Or its an inherant sexual bias...

Raisin's sexist?

I'm telling his girlfriend on him!

Raisin has a girlfriend??!?!

I'm telling his boyfriend on him!

What if we picked up Gregg because Marmol has been added to the Peavy deal? I know it's probably not but it was a bad thought that popped into my head. yuk

I would be shocked into a coma if Hendry did that -- it would also be the first rumored deal that I didn't think we were getting a steal from.

That said, my money's on No Way Hendry lets Marmol and Wood both go within weeks of eachother. Even for Peavy.

I agree it would be the stupidest thing he's ever done but I guess I don't understand the need for Gregg at the cost of Ceda. Just feels like something is missing.

If Marmol gets traded for Peavy, the deal had better be Marmol and inconsequential throw-ins for Peavy, and not much else.

Marmol isn't getting traded. Letting Kerry go pretty much cements that, IMO.

I agree, I was just commenting on his worth in the event Hendry did get stupid and move him.

I agree, it was simply a thought based on what seems to be a needless trade for Gregg and the lack of a dominant closer option for SD.

Call me a typical over-optimistic Cubs fan, but I really think Gregg is going to get flipped. Let's not forget how GMs way overvalue the save stat, and Gregg had about 30 of them last year.

Of course, Hendry could be one of those GMs that way overvalues the save stat.

The wait is killing me.

We won't get him. A few days ago I thought we would. Then today we trade Ceda for Gregg and let Wood walk. We'll re-sign Demp instead and pay him to suck for the next 4-5 years.

I'm trying to pretend that's not a possibility...now I'm going to resume putting my hands over my ears while screaming "I can't hear you!"

Dig the Daniel Quinn sig DonnieD. Read any of his other books?

Yep, I'm a big fan of his. I haven't read Tales of Adam yet. I think I'm going to have to order it online, I havne't seen it in a bookstore yet.

i checked it out at my library a few years ago, and i gleaned a passage that i want read at my funeral. it's perfect. tales of adam is a good, light read.

If we were to get Peavy, the plan has been to try and resign Demp next and let Wood walk. I don't see how anything has changed.

Dear Jake,

I need a new Cub to worship. Please come here.

Thanks. Bye.

It will never be the same as a homegrown player that broke onto the scene with the one of the most dominating performances in baseball history in his 5th major league start.

Jake might do better for the Cubs than Kerry ever did, but it will never completely be the same.

But you knew that already.

I don't think he does. Nothing really says to me that he overvalues saves as a stat. He cut Borowski after it became clear he was not going to go back to his 2003 numbers, he's letting Wood walk, he allowed Dempster to move back to the rotation. Hawkins, Eyre, and Howry were never really closers, only set-up men. One of his first moves in 2002 was trading Tom Gordon. Despite rumors that he would go after Jose Mesa among other used-to-be-good closers he has never done it. He's been hesitant to say that Marmol will be the closer, as his value as a goto guy is more important than just ending games. Nothing there really says he likes saves.

Don't forget the last closer Hendry got from Florida in a trade...I don't know if it's a case that he doesn't overvalue it as he isn't afraid to look inhouse for help.

Even if Gregg is kept he wouldn't be the closer. I see Gregg replacing Howry on the roster.

I was kind of hoping they wouldn't replace Howry. I don't know if I can deal with another Howry for another season.
