To all the Brewswrs fans lurking here: How did having an 8.5 lead last year, with a better offense, pithing staff and bullpen work out for you? You have C.C. but a horrid pen and a very hit and miss offense.

Good luck with that.

Hendry is going to get another starter and you guys will be watching the playoffs yet again.

You know we had something like an 8.5 game lead on them not long ago.

No, they'll make it. The rest of the NL sucks. They just aren't winning the division.

Well it looks like its the Cubs turn to react. I am curious if the Cards can even make any moves worth anything.

The NL Central could be very loaded come August.

watching some of the A's/Sox game before the Cubs game, I noticed something. I've never heard of half of the A's players, and the ones I have heard of would be on most teams bench. And its not like the Cardinals or Rays never heard of, it's the legitamately bad kind. Their top hitter, Mark Ellis is a .249/.345/.405 guy. Thats pretty bad. If we offered up enough prospects, we could get Harden. Im talking a bunch of em. I mean that is a bad team. I mean Cedeno, Hoffpauir, Murton could not only start, but hit 3-4-5 bad.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.

I know, Im exaggerating, but it's a pretty bad looking team on paper.

LLF is the only person on this board who thinks that hoffpauir is a good hitting prospect.

frank thomas and jack cust are way better hitters than those guys if they're both in the lineup. ellis isn't bad. suzuki can hit okay for a catcher. their offense isn't very good, but they have very good pitching and a solid bullpen. billy beane isn't going to just say "gee whiz, we're pretty weak on offense!" and give away their most attractive asset for a handful of marginal starters.

There was noise of them going after Matt Holliday, but if the Rockies do move him, its pretty safe to say that the Angels will be adding him to their logjammed outfield/DH spot.

The Cards are just anxiously waiting for the 2 weeks when Carpenter and Mulder are healthy.

That ground has been made up during what I believe will end up being by far the Cubs' worst stretch all year.

I'm surprised they didn't close more ground.

(a) the brewers' offense is a lot more "hit" than "miss"

(b) does the national league still have a wild card slot?

I think this is great for the NL Central. It really improves the Brewers, and sure, that is a threat to the Cubs but it does make things more exciting.

Not sure what Hendry will do, but I think it is obvious the Cubs are in need of another quality SP. Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

I don't think they're going to pass us. I just thought it was dumb to start mocking Brewers fans when they've made up like 5 games on us in the past couple weeks.

this is really going to be a fun race to the finish, especially if St. Louis keeps it up.

Even when they were up 8.5 games last year, the pythagorean records were within a game or so. After their hot stretch that has brought them to within 3.5 games of us, our pythagorean record is 9 games better than theirs.

The thing is, if we're going to get Burnett or Harden, Hendry has to do it soon. We can't sit around for 3 weeks while CC is making 4-5 starts for Milwaukee. Ideally, landing one of Burnett/Harden by this time next week would be best, but we'll see what happens I guess.

Buy low on Burnett, hope Hill has turned a corner. Best case is Zambrano/Dempster/Burnett/Lilly/Hill forming the deepest rotation in the game. Worst case one of Dempster/Burnett/Hill should be very strong to complement Z in the playoff rotation.

I still have this sinking feeling Hendry thinks Randy Wolf is the answer to the rotation question.

It's why I've been ecstatic with his recent meltdown.

If they're anxiously awaiting them being effective, they'll be anxiously waiting a long time.

People are going to be panicking if Hendry doesn't make a move right away, but we are still a ways off from the deadline. This deal only happened so early because it was obvious it was the best match up they were going to get. I'm not expecting anything for at least a couple weeks.

I hope I am wrong, though.

They do have Rasmus they could use as a chip.

This news hasn't reached all of the baseball world yet, because I'm watching Astros/Braves game in extras and the Braves announcers were basically saying "If you're the Cubs, and you've spent all the money you have to get to this point, why not give up some of the future to get CC Sabathia to really solidify you're chances in the playoffs this year and winning it all?".

They just talked about the news in the Milwaukee JS. So its getting around.

I just thought his little taunt was pretty unnecessary.

If we end up with Wolf or Maddux I would be pissed. Both of those guys are not upgrades, you can probably make a case proving they are downgrades actually.

Buster Olney reported it on Baseball Tonight...it was a breaking news segment. The headline was "CC Sabathia traded to the Brewers".

Yeah, thats not going to happen. With CC off the market, all of the sudden, guys like Harden and Burnett become more valueable, almost precious. There are more teams in need of quality pitching than there are sellers getting rid of it, so they really have no reason to be in a hurry to get rid of these guys. If anything, the value will go up closer to the deadline as more teams are scrambling to get these guys. Unless of course, Hendry makes a ridiculous offer.

This is one move that can't go unanswered. Now Hendry needs to step up pursuit of Harden, Burnett, etc.

Dangit, I wanted CC. Stupid Brewers.
