Are there any other realistic top of the rotation targets out there other than Burnett and Harden that might be available? Neither of them really excite me much.

Oakland is now 6 GB of the Angels and 4 GB in the wildcard. Beane seems like the kind of realist that knows the A's aren't nearly the team the Angels/Red Sox are. Lets send Harden packing, Billy. Give up a few good prospects for Harden, then Cedeno and crap for Burnett.

Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Dempster, Burnett (or Hill).

Let's do this, let's go crazy.

lets be realistic here. There are other contending teams in need of pitching, and they will be pushing just as hard for these guys. I think Hendry can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get one, but I dont see him getting both. If we are going to get Harden, were going to give up a lot. Probably more than hes worth.

Yeah, I just really want Jim to do something to counter this.

I really don't want to face the Brewers in the playoffs

Did you get a call up?

------------------

Sabathia only pitches once every 5 days. Get a hold of yourself. They're still the same team that folded down the stretch last year and they're still managed by the second worst manager in baseball (and that is saying something).

Yost + Sabathia = a push.

I wonder what Hendry will do to counter. I can't see him standing pat.

He wasn't going to stand pat before this.

I want him to just come out swinging like a madman. Snatch up Harden, Burnett, and Milton Bradley. I don't think any of them would cost all the much. Harden maybe, but his injury history cheapens him a good bit, I think. Right now the Brewers are probably feeling on top of the world. This would send them right back down.

Regardless of how they feel, this doesn't make them a complete team. And to be honest, I am kind of scared of Harden. The guy hasn't made it through a season since 2004. I'd hate to use what few trading chips we have only to see his arm fall off in August.

Harden is better than CC, if healthy. That's just a big if. But i agree with vance about trying to pry Hudson from the Braves.

This might be wishful thinking, but it wouldn't really surprise me to see Sabathia kind of stink up the joint, at least not perform up to expectations. He's never seemed like a guy who handles pressure well, and I don't really like the way he mailed it in during all over his playoff starts last year

I dont think he'll stink up the joint, but I dont think he suddenly makes the Brewers a lock for the division, or even the playoffs. If Gallardo ends up coming back, then watch out.

None of these are super likely, but Hudson, Oswalt, Bedard, Greinke, even Peavy are on teams that are pretty much done for the year.

EDIT: Also, Rich Hill.

This news hasn't reached all of the baseball world yet, because I'm watching Astros/Braves game in extras and the Braves announcers were basically saying "If you're the Cubs, and you've spent all the money you have to get to this point, why not give up some of the future to get CC Sabathia to really solidify you're chances in the playoffs this year and winning it all?".

If we match them with Harden I will be very happy. Plus it would be nice to see the Brewers lose prospects and Sabathia at the end of the season.

ESPN bottom line says its not a done deal, but working closely.

Sheets, Sabathia, Parra, Suppan, Bush=good rotation.

Could the Braves be persuaded to trade Tim Hudson even with him having a couple more years left on that deal?

If were going to go for Hudson, may as well go for broke and go for Peavy. Im just saying.

Either one is fine with me. I think Peavy would cost more and is a little bit more of an injury risk....but it'd be awesome to have him.

Peavy is signed through 2012. I don't think the Pads are going to be interested in dealing him. I'd be all for it if so though.

I think he meant that it's a pretty done deal that he's out for the year. That's what I thought I've heard anyway.

he'd only thrown over 200 innings once in his career before last season, and he threw 241 last year, plus another 15 in the playoffs. he threw nearly 1000 more pitches than he threw the previous year. i think his arm was just exhausted at that point.

given that sheets has been abused by yost this year and sabathia is on pace for another high inning count, their effectiveness in the playoffs (if they get there) may be limited. i suspect that yost will ride them very hard, since the brewers' bullpen sucks and they're in the thick of the race.

Peavy isn't going anywhere. The names I would be looking at are:

Harden

Cain

Hudson

Burnett

Blanton

in that order.

watching some of the A's/Sox game before the Cubs game, I noticed something. I've never heard of half of the A's players, and the ones I have heard of would be on most teams bench. And its not like the Cardinals or Rays never heard of, it's the legitamately bad kind. Their top hitter, Mark Ellis is a .249/.345/.405 guy. Thats pretty bad. If we offered up enough prospects, we could get Harden. Im talking a bunch of em. I mean that is a bad team. I mean Cedeno, Hoffpauir, Murton could not only start, but hit 3-4-5 bad.

We're all assuming this writer is accurate... we've seen before that people sometimes say things like this to get the first scoop, only to be wrong. I'm not familiar with this guy at all... is he pretty credible or is he their Paul Sullivan?

He's pretty credible. It could be the Indians are simply listening to last minute offers that may be coming in now that the deal seems imminent. I think it's pretty academic at this point, though.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.

To all the Brewers fans lurking here: How did having an 8.5 lead last year, with a better offense, pithing staff and bullpen work out for you? You have C.C. but a horrid pen and a very hit and miss offense.

Good luck with that.

Hendry is going to get another starter and you guys will be watching the playoffs yet again.
