Schiano tentatively accepted Michigan job on Wednesday, had a change of heart on Thursday.

Ridiculous. It's the 2nd time in a week that coaches have said no to Michigan. We're starting to look more and more like Notre Dame every minute.

You can have Robinson and the first year will be free!

I would take Major Applewhite before Robinson now. Even with no head coaching experience. Michigan would never make a move like that, but the Major will soon be in the coaching elite.

Sean Payton im interested in. Currently he is making 'only' $2M and if UM goes to $2.5+ he has a nice raise and more security. Is he interested in college and coaching at UM, who knows.

The only knack or nit I saw on Schiano was his conservative offense. Payton is more aggressive passing the ball, i think thats what UM needs. Plus DeBord will probably be fired with Payton coming in, thats another good thing. Schiano im afraid was more likely to keep the old crusty man on his staff.

DeBord needs to go no matter who is brought in. The run-left, zone-blocking scheme just doesn't work. He's been terrible in his time at U of M.

I dont know if its the run left zone blocking scheme that doesnt work. Its that everyone knows what play Michigan is going to run that doesnt work. What I find incredible is how good their offense looks when they are forced to open it up and play 3 or 4 receiver sets. Almost unstoppable. I think the smartest coaching job I have seen in awhile was Pete Carroll last year in the Rose Bowl. He knew he could score at will against Michigan. He also knew Michigan could probably score at will against them if they opened it up. So he kept the game close for a half with a conservative offense. Kept Michigan in a run mode. He came out and opened it up in the 3rd quarter. Michigan was down 2 scores before they finally opened up their offense. Except it was too late. If USC goes up 2 scores in the first half that game probably would have turned into a shootout that Michigan may have caught up with them

Yep. It's amazing how easy it is for Michigan to march down the field when they start spreading out the receivers and actually throw the ball down the field instead of just throwing 5-yard outs. But for some reason we decide that because we're Michigan and that we've always been a run team that we have to keep running the ball even though the entire stadium knows exactly what play we're going call. It's maddening.

Unlike Michigan I think a lot of coaches have learned they can open up the run by passing or just keep passing until it's stopped. Coach P did that here, a firm believer in "establishing the run".

Oh, you're worse. Notre Dame only had one coach turn them down. Also, their wait between Losingham and Weis was 18 days and UM is now on their 19th with really no end in sight.

yeah, we're probably worse at this point. we had the whole Miles fiasco, and now have been turned down by Ferentz and Schiano. at this point they'll probably offer the job to English and he'll turn them down too. might as well bring Carr back out of retirement for a year and try all this next year.

I think Carr would just turn them down as well.

Michigan could try to lure Jim Harbaugh from Stanford, since he played at Michigan. I don't know whether his Stanford contract includes a reasonable buy-out clause.

After what Harbaugh said over the summer about UM athletics, I really doubt they're looking to bring him in.

Not now, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised in the future. And it doesn't seem like he's long for Stanford. I just don't see him deciding to be there for that long.

Although I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him leave. Stanford is our main competitor and he's kicking our butts in recruiting over the last year.

Michigan has lost four straight bowl games so they have that in common with ND as well.

Let's not kid ourselves. It's soon to be 5 straight bowl games.
