I thought we'd have a little coaching thread here since it's going to be a pretty good slew of schools looking for one.

I was thinking of Nebraska and I think that Coach Pasqualoni would make a nice match for them. He's been in Texas as a Linebacker coach for the Cowboys for 3 years and knows the area and he's an option background nose to the grindstone type coach who graduates his kids. He also does a very good job of getting them ready for the NFL.

Yeah I saw that Edsall from UConn went down there.

You know the funny thing about coaching is that a guy has a lot of success like Ferentz and turns down job after job. The, he has a few 7-5...6-6 years and then there are mumblings about having him leave. This is why I say go make the bucks when you can and go where you'll be most happy.

Pelini and Gill are the big names I've heard in relation to the Nebraska job.

Me too. Gill did a really nice job in Buffalo, they really stunk before he got there. What would you do if you were Pelini, go to Nebraska or LSU if Miles leaves?

I think you take the LSU job. I may be biased, but I think Nebraska is going to be down for a little while.

I think offensively they have done well but I don't know enough about them returning any of their impact O players. I agree with you that they won't be a top team for awhile though and that's to bad if it's true because I'd like to see them be a 9-3, 8-4 type team.

Id stay at LSU if is was Pelini.

Nebraska has been granted permission to speak with Brian Kelly.

You're shopping Kelly all over the place! He'd be a solid choice.

Yeah. Here's another guy i will shop. Chuck Martin.

Martin was Kelly's defensive coordinator at GVSU for 4 years (Kelly came through the GVSU ranks as a D coach). Martin has been the head coach for 4 years now since Kelly left and has won 2 Nat Titles in 3 years, they are ranked #1 this year.

A MAC team or similar might think about him.

What makes you think Pelini would be offered the LSU job?

There was a bit of a buzz around here yesterday about Tuberville potentially leaving Auburn to coach Arkansas or LSU. This probably isn't happening, and the report today is that he's using this as leverage (see below). Auburn likely will signoff on the new indoor facility from what I'm hearing. Also, Tuberville only needs to coach at Auburn for one more year to be able to draw retirement from the state of Alabama. I don't believe he's going anywhere.

After beating Alabama for the sixth straight year and with an opening for a head coach at Arkansas and perhaps another one at LSU, you could say that Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville is dealing from a position of strength. But negotiations haven’t gone all that smoothly. Tuberville wants more money for his assistants, who are underpaid compared to those at Alabama. He also wants an indoor practice facility, which is something Alabama has as well. If he is expected to compete with Alabama, Tuberville needs to be close to an equal footing with the Crimson Tide in these areas. Auburn’s new proposal is supposed to come by Saturday. Tuberville will have until Dec. 31 to accept it.

Sorry but he's coming to Syracuse to coach in front of 20,000 fans sitting on their hands.

Why would he leave SC for LSU? I think that he could make a heck of a program there.

The thing is that Ferentz is making $3M/year at Iowa, and even with the past two seasons, he's still God in Iowa. Sure there are mumblings about unhappiness with him, due to the last two seasons and the recent off the field issues. However, most Iowa fans are smart enough to not run Ferentz out of town just yet. Hawk fans, including myself, would probably be happy with two new coordinators.

With that said, if Ferentz goes to UM...watch out. I don't want to know what that guy would do at a school where he could continually recruit top talent. His main problem at Iowa has been recruiting playmakers on offense. He runs a vanilla offense, but it works when the talent is there, just look at Iowa in 2002. Brad Banks, Fred Russell, Dallas Clark, Robert Gallery, just to name a few guys on that team that ran a simple offense, but was very explosive.

I think there will be a buzz in LSU to bring Fisher back as HC if Miles leaves. I've already heard as much from some people who have some connections there. On the other hand, I've heard some that are opposed to Fisher coming back since he left for basically the same position somewhere else.

The author is probably alluding to the recruiting battle that has insued post Saban-to-Alabama. Tuberville outrecruited Shula, Franchione, etc, but that is a tougher feat now that Saban is at the helm of U of A. That's Tuberville's position on this I assume, and that is why he is demanding an indoor facility comparable to Alabama's.

Agreed about UM. His only real weakness is recruiting playmakers - IIRC he didn't recruit at least two of his 2002 playmakers. Thinking Banks and DC. He has never gotten close to duplicating that offense.

All that aside, I don't see him leaving for at least a few years, and I know that no one wants him gone because of this season - we all blame Christensen

Lots of rumors on the new Arkansas coach.

I've heard they offered Butch Davis, Lance Kiffin, and Tommy Tuberville. . . just waiting on one to accept. I call BS.

I have it on good word that Mike Leach (Texas Tech) interviewed with the Arkansas AD today.
