Miles staying at LSU?

What is going on? I'm going to be really upset if ESPN got my hopes up for nothing.

There are SOOO many rumors floating around here right now it's not even funny. At this point I'm just waiting until something is finalized one way or the other, so I don't get caught up in the hoopla. I won't be upset either way. Frankly, I might be glad if LM leaves at this point.

Wow, if that's true then Herbstreit's credibility is going to take a huge hit.

I disagree. It's not like he's Chris Mortenson or Andy Katz and it's his job to report on rumors and get scoops. He's an analyst who apparently thought he had the right news and it turned out to be false. His credibility comes from being the best college football analyst on tv.

Who knows, maybe Miles was set to agree with Michigan and had planned on Tenuta being his DC, but before it went official LSU stepped up with a huge offer. These things are never a done deal until the ink is dry on the contract but an agent or athletic program can believe they're almost certain.

Sources close to both Les Miles and the LSU administration report the coach has reached a multi-year contract extension with his current school and will remove himself from consideration as the next Michigan coach.

A 1:45 p.m. press conference has been scheduled by LSU prior to today's Southeastern Conference title game between the Tigers and Tennessee to announce the new deal and its terms.

LSU will reportedly make Miles one of the highest-paid coaches in the country.

Honestly, I'm still hoping Tunuta somehow still ends up at Michigan. Sure sounds like that was the plan just a little while ago.

Georgia Tech might have lost its second head coach in less than a week with reports that interim coach Jon Tenuta will soon become defensive coordinator at Michigan.

"I don't know yet. I really don't," Tenuta said Saturday after his first practice in his interim role. "There's been rumors before about me going a lot of places."

Saturday's report was more than a rumor, however. It came from ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit, who Tenuta describes as "a friend of mine."

Herbstreit reported Tenuta would be working at Michigan for current LSU coach Les Miles. Tenuta said he had not talked to Miles.

Tenuta has been defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech for six years, and his aggressive, blitzing defenses have ranked among the nation's best the last four seasons.

A Kelly or Tedford head coach with Tenuta as DC would be amazing. :pig:

Sure sounds like your head coach used his alma mater to screw you out of millions.

They spend more than that on top recruits, why not a coach?

I'm not having to pay any of it...

and it was always believed that if Michigan called, LSU would step up and pay him. He wasn't making nearly what Saban made while he was here.

ESPN News just interviewed a Detroit News broadcaster and called her an "insider".

ESPN is terrible. They've completely lost it.

Looks like Miles is staying at LSU. Sounds like Michigan is on to plan B and Greg Schiano.

It's like hiring a really good coach who's proven himself at the AAA level. He's ready for the Major Leagues now.

Bertman confirms it.

"We don't have a signed contract but we have an agreement," LSU athletics director Skip Bertman told The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune this morning. "It will be finalized Monday or Tuesday."

I think this will help your boys tonight too knowing their coach is going to stay. In all honesty I kid around with your program but it's a heck of a program and it's really surprising that there has been that much turnover.

Well, the turn-over came because we hired the mercenary, Nick Saban.

But for all the hate, Saban has received in these parts, he put the program back in the national spotlight. He showed his successors what can happen when you use the fact that LSU is the only major program in the state as a recruiting tool.

I'm neutral on Miles. I think he's a great recruiter. I question some of his coaching decisions. I'm going to hate losing Pelini, so I hope an adequate replacement is found. I'm glad Miles is staying because it helps with the stability of the program, but I wanted Butch Davis when they hired Miles and I still wish they had pushed for him instead.

(Nah, it's vastly improved, and I'd vote West Virginia #1 if I had a vote. It's the also-rans after WV taking the huge leap forward that has really improved things. Having Cincy, USF, and Rutgers get respectable in a hurry has been huge.(I ain't buying UConn) I don't agree with Meph that you're the #2 conference, but you're definitely not the weak sister anymore either.)

Ha...good one! Must suck when the minor league teams beat the major league ones!

I wonder what the chances are that ya'll bring in Tenuta? What with the rumors he was heading to Ann Arbor with Miles, I wonder if there was a connection between him and Miles or him and Michigan?

He's easily one of the best D-coordinators in the game, so I kinda hope ya'll don't get him.

Maybe he is on his way...we'll see.

I was upset when we lost Fisher to Florida State. I'm not really sold on our OC either, but I guess we're stuck with him.

Haha. Anyone just see Miles' press conference on EPSN News a second ago? That dude is crazy.

No mention of a new contract at LSU in the press conference.

UConn is an enigma. I'm curious on how well they'll do in a bowl game.

As for #2, we've done well in OOC games and have played some tough teams as well which is why it has been bumped up. USF which isn't ranked beat Central Flor 64-12 while Ranked Texas need a late TD to win. What conference is better and what is worse imo is very slight this year.

So how about Pittsburgh giving Wanny a 3-year extension to push his contract up to 2012? They've underachieved ever since he has came there and they reward him with a multi-year extension? Why not just slap the Athletic Director label on him and call it a day?

The best thing Wanstedt has done since getting there is recruit very well. He's about to the point, though, that those good recruits are going to have to perform. I'm surprised by the extension, I would think they'd wait until there were signs the recruits were going to perform.

What it also does is tell the new recruits, hey...I'm going to be there for a while. I don't think Wanstedt is a very good coach but you're right his strength is recruiting and they have done really well. I like how my school did it. You have 1 more year to prove you stink and this scares the recruits away for another year. If you can recruit and evaluate you can win and Robinson can do neither, and is a below average coach without a good solid plan. I'm going to go cry in my pillow now.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the "we know you suck, but we'll give you one final year to prove otherwise" line of thinking. It's bad for recruiting especially, but not that great for the program as a whole.

To be honest, when ya'll hired Robinson, I really felt like Norm Chow would be a great fit. He's a great offensive coordinator, and would likely have installed an exciting offensive strategy to draw some fans.
