The former Texas Class 4A offensive player of the year may end up at Tennessee, which is considering hiring former Michigan offensive coordinator Mike DeBord and quarterbacks coach Scott Loeffler. "If they're hired, that would be a real good possibility," Jim Mallett said.

Not sure how crazy I am about Tennessee potentially hiring Debord after hearing the complaining on here, but if he brings Loeffler and Mallett with him, I think I can stand him.

For the Michigan fans out there, how much input did Lloyd Carr have on the Michigan offense? Did Carr demand the much-maligned "run-left" offense or was it the brainchild of DeBord? And do ya'll think DeBord would open things up if allowed to?

Also, for Raisin and others interested:

Mallett said his son also will consider transferring to Texas A&M, Arkansas and UCLA among other schools. After sitting out next season, he will have three years of eligibility.

Plus in the same article, Adrian Arrington and Mario Manningham will both declare for the NFL.

Richmond HC Dave Clawson to be Tennessee's new OC. Looks like Loeffler is still out there (and Mallett too?).

Heard last night it was pretty much a done deal. I really like the move - I think Clawson is a better pure option for the coordinator position than DeBord.

Would have been nice to get Loeffler and Mallett though. Clawson worked with QBs at Richmond, but maybe Fulmer won't want to heap that kind of responsibility on him so early and will still bring in Loeffler and Mallett.

Clawson is going to be the QB coach too, so it looks like UT is out of the running for Loeffler - and likely Mallett too. :(

Oh well, Clawson is a better option than DeBord was and that's more important anyway.

That is awesome.

Unlike Purdue, at least Hendry doesn't acquire players based on their facial hair.

What can Wisconsin fans tell me about Mike Hankwitz as a DC/coach/recruiter? There's a report that will be named NU's new DC.

well, he has been a dc for 20 some odd years for a bunch of schools. I wasn't happy with the development of the defense, niether was beliema cause hankwitz was canned. recruiting wise, blah... I wish I could give you better news.

Purdue almost hired wisconsin's oc paul chryst instead of hope. That would have been a huge blow for Wisc.

Mallett update about which schools hes got it narrowed down to. I post his because i dont know where to post it, and many board members follow these schools.

Mallett's dad speaks.

"I can tell you, we visited Arkansas and we've talked to Texas A&M and Tennessee. But we're not sure what is going on at Tennessee because they hired an offensive coordinator that has run the spread. I can also say tell you we considered UCLA, but just decided that's too far away."

UPDATE:

Hawgsports is reporting he is transfering to Arkansas.

Not sure what Mallett had against Clawson's spread offense. Everybody familiar with him says he prefers the traditional drop-back passer. Seems like Mallett would have liked the four and five wide spreads Clawson seems to like to employ.

I think he'll be happy in Arkansas, though. Playing under Bobby Petrino for a year or two until Petrino slips out in the dead of night for the next gig.

Remember, Caesar, Thou Art Mortal

We hear UCLA is working on a deal with Norm Chow and things are reaching an advanced stage. If it gets done, the coordinator combo of DeWayne Walker and Chow will get Caesar's full attention. Who would have a better staff in America?

Major Applewhite is now a longhorn again. He will be named Running Backs coach.

Weird.

Until two years from now, when he's replaced by an inferior running backs coach just because he happens to be related to a famous coach from the past

What? He is also the assistant head coach as well as running back coach.

It was a Chris Simms joke.

Auburn has offered their defensive coordinator position to Paul Rhodes of Pitt. I don't know much about Rhodes other than the fact that Pittsburgh had the overall #5 ranked defensive last season.

University of Miami stole KU's D-coordinator, Bill Young. Sucks for us, but can't blame him. He'll be working with talent he could only dream about landing at KU.

He's a solid coach fiver. He was up for the Pitt job when Big Dave got it instead and I think it was time for him to move. His D stuffed WV.

According to FOXSports.com, Raisin will wake up to some very happy news:

Norm Chow is headed back to Los Angeles — as a Bruin.

Chow, the former USC and Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, has accepted the same job at UCLA Sunday, according to sources in a report by the L.A. Daily News.

Wowowow, it's official:

UCLA Bruins CSTV[/url]"]Norm Chow, who is considered one of the top offensive coaches in football history, has been named offensive coordinator at UCLA, Bruin head football coach Rick Neuheisel announced today.

"Norm brings great offensive expertise to the job," said Neuheisel. "He has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career and has been the architect of some of the most explosive offenses in college football history. We are thrilled that Norm has decided to become a Bruin. What youngster who plays offense in high school wouldn't be excited about playing for a school with Norm Chow as its offensive coordinator?"
