I always got the impression that Raisin wouldn't mind Neuheisel.

Check out page 14. Raisinn lists 3-4 people who would make him hate football, Neuheisel is on that list.

God I hope Guerrero pulls a good hire out of his rear (not even a great one like Michigan did). Chow, Walker, Neuheisel and the wrong Harbaugh really make me want to hate football.

He did also say this, though:

Rick Neuheisel and Steve Mariucci are the first two candidates to get a second interview with Chancelor Block in the UCLA HC hunt. This is the first that I have heard that Mooch is still a candidate for the HC job. While neither would be in my current top 3 choices, both are preferrable to Norm Chow or DeWayne Walker.

He'll need at least some comforting, though.

Well crap. Word is that McGee is leaving his OC position at NU for a position coach spot in the SEC, not even back to Oklahoma. This really sucks. Now we need a new OC, DC, AND AD. I'm sure Martz will have his name thrown around a tad, as there is some connection to Walker, but this is getting crazy. There's some speculation that with Nagel committing today as a "superback" to join Drake Dunsmore, who managed to be named to the Sporting News freshman All Big Ten team despite seeing so little playing time in the offense this season, that they may be shifting more towards a run-heavy offense. Who knows if that has a role in it.

But I'm shocked that McGee is leaving and isn't going back to Oklahoma. There's a doins a transpirin' in Evanston. And since 2008 will see a senior-filled offense, this is not the time for a shakeup.

EDIT: Apparently McGee is the new QB coach at Arkansas. This has to be the 3rd or 4th time he has coached QBs. Definitely a very strange move on the surface. I don't know of any connection he has there.

Actually, I'm pretty excited.

Obviously I wanted a guy like Petersen or June Jones but the more I read about Neuhisel, the more I warmed to him. He won his lawsuit against U-Dub and was wrongfully terminated. I'm pretty happy..he has a lot of experience and he'll work wonders with QBs. My biggest concerns were how he did in years 3 and 4 at both Colorado and Washington. Anyways, it's fun hearing USC fans worry about UCLA football for once (they should worry about Illinois, eh?). :)

Yea getting fired for participating in a NCAA basketball bracket is pretty ridiculous.

I do know that Neuheisel had better run an extremely clean program, because you know the he's probably not on the NCAA's Christmas card list.

Good lord, that was an awesome press conference. Neuhisel sure knows how to talk to the media, the guy bleeds blue and gold.

It has now been confirmed that Garrick McGee is leaving his OC position at Northwestern to become the new QB coach under Petrino at Arkansas.

The big question is how much money NU will be willing to spend on a new DC and OC right now, especially without an AD.

Hell, look at the ticky tack nature of his violations at Colorado: http://bruinroar.blogspot.com/2007/12/on-neuheiel-and-ncaa-violations.html

He got a violation for playing a game of H-O-R-S-E with a recruit and for going $3 over on a recruiting trip ($3 spent on Nintendo gaming).

Yea the NCAA seemed to have it out for him, and now that they had to pay him that big chunk of change, he better dot every i and cross every T or UCLA will be on probation really quick.

There may have been other things but weren't reported and these were the things he got nailed for. He's a charmer and a very good offensive coach and hopefully for your sake he will stay clean. I think if he does and gets a very good defensive coach, you're going to be a happy fan. The big key is that defensive coach.

Thankfully, after McNown/handicap-gate and DeShaun Foster's free SUV, UCLA's compliance department really beefed up and are considered one of the best in the NCAA. The reason it took Neu so long to get hired was that UCLA want a thorough check from the NCAA on him. Looks like they've done everything right so far.

----

Dew, Neu has contacted Norm Chow to see if he's interested in being UCLA's OC. He'd obviously have to take a pay cut and I don't know how interested he'd be in making half the money but he'd be back in his home town permanently (I guess it'll come down to how much he wants to stick it to Petey/USC and if any feelings were hurt between he and UCLA during the HC interviews...financially the move would make no sense).

DeWayne Walker might be gone to Washington (dumb move imo, he won't be considered for their HC position next year when Willingham is gone - they're hot and heavy for Mora, Jr.). Potential DC replacements include Philly DB coach John Harbaugh (I'd like him based on what Truffle said) and USC LB coach (and former Bruin) Ken Norton.

Can any of you Michigan fans comment on your out-going QB coach, Scott Loeffler? Neu sounds like he's very intersted in adding him to his staff at UCLA.

All I have to say is this Raisin... After watching the arrogant pricks from USC yesterday in the Rose Bowl, I really hope you guys get better soon, and start putting it to USC's ass. What a classless program, coach, etc...

Very well respected among Michigan fans. John Navarre was really raw when he came to UM and he ended up being a very good college QB under Loeffler's guidance. He recruited Chad Henne and Ryan Mallett. Hosak said he heard Tennessee is also potentially interested. Im disappointed he hasnt be 'rehired' yet. There are only 3 assistant coaches id of liked see RR retain, SL was one of them if not the #1.

Yeah, I have read rumors that Mallett might follow Loeffler. Sounds like Neuheisel and he would be 2 great guys for QBs to work under and a great hire for UCLA if it happens.

Not at all. Nobody expected the Illini to win. Im glad we got there, and the future is very bright in Champaign. This is the beginning, certainly not the end.

I dont see how anybody could watch that game and say USC wasnt a bunch of arrogant pricks. Did they score 1 td without taunting somebody, and drawing a unsportsman like penalty?

I remember two penalties - the flip into the endzone and the one where Booty found the TE in the back of the end zone.

DeWayne Walker back at UCLA as a DC. Now I want Loeffler or Chow.

chow? he had probably the premier o.c. job in college football and left for the nfl. now he's going to leave the nfl for ucla? i think you have spent too much time at the "michigan/notre dame school for unrealistic expectations in coaching hires"
