Everything I've heard of Chow is that he's a great offensive mind but stays far away from the defense. He also apparently has no personality which would make it tough as the head guy and on the recruiting trail especially up against mr. personality at SC. I'm hoping UCLA does better than Chow simply to take some of the California recruits away from the condoms.

Duke is close to hiring David Cutcliffe as their next head coach.

Good, Brady Hoke was starting to get mentioned for that one.

My thoughts exactly. I also wonder why Chow hasn't gotten more HC offers and has bombed a shoe-in interview like Stanford a few years ago. I'd much prefer someone else (Bronco Mendenhall, Chris Petersen if at all possible, June Jones or Rick Neuheisel).

There's a new twist in Michigan's ongoing search for a head coach: University officials are meeting with West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez, according to Sporting News Radio correspondent Michael Bradley.

Rodriguez and his agent are in Toledo today to negotiate with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman.

Michigan has been looking for a head coach since Lloyd Carr announced his retirement Nov. 19 after 13 seasons leading the program.

I'd love to have Rodriguez, but I feel like we're in for another embarrassment when he turns us down.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Michigan up the ante quite a bit this time to avoid that. He's a WV grad so it's going to take a lot of money for him to leave.

Rodriguez has a $4 million dollar buyout. I don't see Michigan paying WVU $4 million.

Desmond Howard on College Football Live just said something along this lines of that Rodriguez has brought in some good recruits to WVU in guys like Slaton and White but they run a different type of offense at WVU and that Michigan usually uses a 'run it right at you' type of offense so he wasn't sure if Rodriguez would be a great fit because of that.

Both my teams may lose their offensive coordinators. I really don't understand why Cutcliffe would want to go to Duke. He's said he wants to go to a team that is ready to contend, and no offense but I just don't think Duke's close.

He'd be a terrific hire for ya'll though. Very, very intelligent offensive mind and he did well at Ole Miss before they inexplicably fired him to bring in Ed Orgeron.

He is a terrific hire, and I'm pumped. The talent is there at Duke, and Cutcliffe might just be the guy to nurse that talent to fruition. But that's the way college football goes...every coaching staff will be a victim of their own success.

Haha. Howard is on the search committe, doesnt sound like his voice was heard to clearly.

IF RR comes it will be interesting to see what he does with the offense talent at UM. Mallett isnt exactly Pat White. If RR keeps the spread shotgun offense but has the QB passes more than at WV it should be a fine transition.

RR used to have a very pass-happy spread offense when he worked at Tulane. He adjusted it to the run-happy offense at WV because he didn't have a guy who could pass. I can only imagine how good a spread offense would be with Mallett and the new guy McGuffie coming in.

I think Mallett would do pretty good in a spread offense. Though he isnt fast or a runner, he does seem mobile. Able to pick up some decent yards if the recievers are covered.

I've said it before and I will say it again and it is something I know Michigan will never in the world do but they should at least interview Major Applewhite or at least bring him in as the OC. He will be the head coach of a major program within 3 years and will be very successful. I know they want someone old though.

oh good, it had been two whole days without hearing about the Most Important Job In The Universe.

please michigan, just hire someone, i don't care who. just get it over with.

Your jealousy is overwhelming.

It's reportedly a done deal now. A press conference is scheduled for 5:00 P.M. Saturday for the official announcement.

I'll definitely be rooting for Duke during Cutcliffe's tenure, hoping he can get ya'll way up there in the ACC pecking order.

Now, though, I'm starting my campaign for Trooper Taylor for Tennessee offensive coordinator. I wanted him to eventually replace Coach Cut anyway, and though this is a bit earlier than I had hoped, it's time to give our best recruiter and a guy that's turned two positions around (RB and WR) the coordinator job.

Unless there's a terrific veteran coordinator around - though I can't think of anybody I'd want more than Trooper at this point.

Norm Chow will interview with UCLA, don't know how or when with his NFL schedule. UCLA will also be interviewing Rick Neuhiesel (:D) and Philadelphia Eagles assistant John Harbaugh (Jim's older brother - guh?). There's also a rumor going around that UCLA might interview Herm Edwards (eww). I don't think you have to worry about losing Chow, dew.

:D At least I've got a little bit of good news. I'd hate to potentially stunt Vince's growth by changing coordinators on him at this point.

Wow reports are coming out now that the Michigan coaching debacle has caused one of their QB recruits from Illinois, John Weinke, to change his mind, and head to Iowa.

EDIT: Its official

Yep. Read about that earlier. There's also a couple of insiders on the WV scout board who are saying R Rodriguez is going to stay at WV. Looks like Michigan has been turned down again. The embarrassment grows.

I never expected Rodriguez to leave WV and thought that was a waste of time. I guess he was curious to how much money they were willing to throw at him. Why have they not thrown hard at Bob Stoops yet?

I think Rodriquez was a little optimistic on Michigan's part.

I'm serious about this wild speculation: perhaps as the fruitless search continues, Miles gets back into after the title game. Assuming no coach is hired by then, of course.
