Wow. I went back to bed at 9 this morning and just woke up to this wonderful news. I can't believe Rich Rodriguez is going to be the next U of M coach.

Wow reports are coming out now that the Michigan coaching debacle has caused one of their QB recruits from Illinois, John Weinke, to change his mind, and head to Iowa.

EDIT: Its official

Yep. Read about that earlier. There's also a couple of insiders on the WV scout board who are saying R Rodriguez is going to stay at WV. Looks like Michigan has been turned down again. The embarrassment grows.

I think Rodriguez was a little optimistic on Michigan's part.

Not according to this: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3157227

Oh. Well, I stand corrected. I didn't think Rodriguez would leave. I'm impressed by Michigan, they did a good job.

*Assuming Rodriguez doesn't back out.

Holy crap, I didn't see this coming obviously based on my post a few hours ago. I'm really surprised he is leaving before the bowl game too. That really sucks for White and Slaton.

Michigan comes out looking great. And he's leaving before their bowl game? That does suck for WVU.

I'm sure they'll be in fine hands and give WVU a chance to see if an assistant can do the job.

Congrats to Michigan in getting a heck of a coach. I hope WV is getting the 4 for the buyout unlike the time they settled for 1.5 and not 2.5 from the hoops coach leaving.

Heh, completely forgot about the Beilein move to Michigan as well. WVU = Michigan Jr.

Pray the Weis does not step down from ND. That would be 10X worse.

I would think that UM = getting the call to "the show" so WVU = UM minor league affiliate.

the minor league affiliate has been better than the big club the past few years

David Cutcliffe is now officially the head coach at Duke. Congrats chucky on getting a terrific head coach - I expect Duke to get pretty good in the next few years.

Apparently, from what I'm hearing the offensive coordinator options for UT have been narrowed to Greg Adkins (current O-line coach), Trooper Taylor (current wide receiver coach), Kippy Brown (former UT guy and current Lions WR coach) and Doug Marrone (another former UT guy and current Saints offensive coordinator).

Right now, I think I'd prefer either Trooper or Kippy (though Trooper is rumored for the Baylor O-coordinator position).

OleMiss, do you know how much of the offense has been Marrone the past couple years and how much has been Payton?

I'll be interesting to see how RR conforms his offense to the current UM talent. Im all for the passing spread offense. Shawn King threw the ball all over the place at Tulane when RR was the OC, so im optimistic..

Buh bye Mike Debord. His offensive game plans were a total pile.

as an alumnus, i'm totally excited with this seemingly last-minute turn-of-events. all the rumors about brady hoke made me want to burn my diploma. the fact that he's bringing gibson (db coach) and magee (oc) might mean debord's gone. excellent.

DeBord was on his way out anyway. Run left hasn't worked for years. I'm also excited about Rich Rod bringing our strength and conditioning program into the 21st century as well. I do hope they keep Ron English on as DC.

LOL, yeah.

Apparently the primary reason for Rodriguez leaving was his failing relations with the AD @ WVU. I'm not familiar with WVU internals, but it seems like they might not be that upset that he's leaving.

God I hope Guerrero pulls a good hire out of his rear (not even a great one like Michigan did). Chow, Walker, Neuheisel and the wrong Harbaugh really make me want to hate football.

I'd be elated if this happens. I long for the days when Baylor returns to being a decent football program. I'm not sure about his actual abilities as an OC, but he definitely brings an energy to a team. He's definitely worked his way up through the ranks and deserves a chance to show what he can do. I remember when he was a graduate assistant in charge of getting the tapes together. He's come along way baby!

You're gonna be sad when Mallet transfers, but thrilled when Pryor signs with Meeechigan.

Pryor in that offense would be nasty.

My son told me this morning that Mallet's dad says he is staying. At least for now.

I wasnt so sure about what would happen with Debord. His status caused a lot of consternation after reading all the rumors of what was going on in this process behind the scenes. I was never so sure until RR was hired. The new guard at AA won on this one.

As for Mallett ill be surprised if he transfers. He burnt his redshirt and transfering would cost him another year. Plus after listening the RR's presser this morning there were at least 3 questions about his offense and how it will fit in. He said that his spread offense is moldible to the talent of a passing or running qb and in the past they have geared it towards a throwing qb and utilizing the skill position players.
