Raisin, I heard on the radio earlier today that there were reports UCLA is interested in Norm Chow for head coach.

Have you heard anything at all on this? Mike Keith, the Titans play-by-play guy, confirmed he had heard they were interested in Chow but didn't know how seriously.

I'd hate to lose Chow since he's been working so closely with Vince the past couple of years. But I think he'd make a very good head coach for the Bruins.

UCLA is in the process of hiring an independent search firm that will help evaluate potential hires (and do nitty gritty stuff like background checks). Until this search group is hired, any coaching candidate mentioned is more speculation than reality. Norm Chow has certainly been mentioned by LA media (along with a host of others) . The only person who will get an interview for sure is DeWayne Walker.

BTW, Chris Petersen was in West LA yesterday - about 2 miles from UCLA - on a recruiting trip and once again vehemently denied his intered in the UCLA job.

Interesting.

How do you feel about Chow as a potential head coach? I figure you watched him some while he was at USC. I'd think he would be able to recruit very well in the area, having done it for so long with the Trojans.

I think he deserves a head coaching shot, but I'd really hate to lose him as offensive coordinator.

I'm in two minds about him. Quite frankly, I want someone with head coaching experience which Chow obviously lacks. There are also questions about his ability to recruit. While Chow was at USC, apparently Sarkasian and Kiffin did most of the offensive recruiting. On the flip side, the guy is obviously an offensive genius and has done wonders for many a QB. And I think he's definitely interested in the job.

Thanks for the info Raisin.

I had no idea Sarkasian and Kiffin did the recruiting instead of Chow while he was at USC. That likely changes things a bit, but you are correct he's an offensive genius. He's working extremely well with Vince right now too.

Hopefully he stays.

Les Miles signed his amended contract today.

We Michigan fans can finally put that to rest. He's not coming.

There's always a buyout.

I've moved on already. I don't think he's coming, but perusing the different U of M football blogs and message boards shows most people haven't given up "hope" that he still might come. I still don't think he's that great of a coach and that there are other coaches who could turn out to be better.

Reggie Herring and the Ole Miss coaching staff are coaching the Hogs in the bowl game, regardless of who the new coach is.

It'd be really great if people would continue to accept and then pull out of the Arkansas job until about January 2 or so.

Wow, I figured he was going to wait til Joe Pa retired to leave Rutgers.

I figured that as well, but looks like there might be a chance.

Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano met with University of Michigan athletics director Bill Martin on Wednesday to discuss Michigan's vacant coaching position, a source with knowledge of the meeting said Thursday night.

The source, who requested anonymity, said "there's mutual interest from both sides,'' meaning there's a chance that Schiano could replace recently retired coach Lloyd Carr.

So, let's see...Billy Gillispie, Dana Altman, Jeff Grobe, Tommy Tuberville, Tommy Bowden...has Arkansas helped any other coaches get raises in the last year? I lose track.

He's a solid coach and a very good salesman. I think he'd be a nice fit for your school.

Rutgers seems to run a very conservative style offense. I have only seen them 4 or 5 times the last couple of years though. Fit right in with what the Michigan higher ups (lloyd carr) would want.

There's also random news that Michigan is interested in the Saints Sean Payton.

Detroit News

Apparently Michigan has branched out and contacted at least one NFL coach about its vacant coaching job.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, 43, did hear from individuals connected to the Michigan search, according to a source close to Payton.

"They've expressed interest," the source said, referring to U-M. "There was interest in Sean using 'unofficial' intermediaries."

Don't see that happening at all.

And Schiano has decided to stay at Rutgers. That didn't take long.

I'm guessing he was just using Michigan to help get the money for their stadium renovations.

That would be one of the most wonderful turnarounds ever. You come from a coach that likes to power run on 3rd and 10 to a coach that likes to double reverse pass on 3rd and 1. I doubt Michigan fans are ready for that big of a shift. :D

I like Payton too and think he could have some success. But just as easily fall flat on his face.

I'm sure Saben is jealous not to here his name connected to any of these jobs.
