It's interesting that Miles didn't say anything about he wasn't going to Michigan or he was going to be the LSU coach next year. He just said he's the LSU coach and he's busy getting ready for the game tonight. Just a bunch of coach-speak. He was really pissed too.

Bertman confirms it.

"We don't have a signed contract but we have an agreement," LSU athletics director Skip Bertman told The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune this morning. "It will be finalized Monday or Tuesday."

Link.

I think this will help your boys tonight too knowing their coach is going to stay. In all honesty I kid around with your program but it's a heck of a program and it's really surprising that there has been that much turnover.

Well, the turn-over came because we hired the mercenary, Nick Saban.

But for all the hate, Saban has received in these parts, he put the program back in the national spotlight. He showed his successors what can happen when you use the fact that LSU is the only major program in the state as a recruiting tool.

I'm neutral on Miles. I think he's a great recruiter. I question some of his coaching decisions. I'm going to hate losing Pelini, so I hope an adequate replacement is found. I'm glad Miles is staying because it helps with the stability of the program, but I wanted Butch Davis when they hired Miles and I still wish they had pushed for him instead.

I wonder what the chances are that ya'll bring in Tenuta? What with the rumors he was heading to Ann Arbor with Miles, I wonder if there was a connection between him and Miles or him and Michigan?

He's easily one of the best D-coordinators in the game, so I kinda hope ya'll don't get him.

Maybe he is on his way...we'll see.

I was upset when we lost Fisher to Florida State. I'm not really sold on our OC either, but I guess we're stuck with him.

I'm curious to see what he'll do with Perilloux, who has more natural ability than it appears Flynn does. He was almost definitely a downgrade from Jimbo though (though most offensive coordinators are).

And we all know what Saban did after getting pissed off and insisting he was not going to Alabama - he went to Bama.

The link to the Miles article also says Pelini is leaving for Nebraska.

The article also states that the agreement with Miles was reached yesterday. It seems LSU preferred to wait and hash everything out after the game today, but with ESPN reporting Miles was leaving felt they needed to go ahead and finalize things today.

My guess Pelini's decision to leave for Nebraska was in part because he knew the LSU job would not be available.

Yep. It also shows me if he leaves how he can talk out of both sides of his mouth. No wonder why he's a good recruiter.

Interesting turn over events.

It wasnt a flat out im not going to Michigan but its as close as close gets.

Just before Bama hired Saban, they had Rich Rodriguez all but signing on the dotted line before WVU stepped in and gave him a monster deal with promises for facility improvements. Bama was definitely left with egg on their face and it's likely why they felt the need to shell out $4 million for Saban.

I forgot about that...so it's the last 2 times for them then.

Yep, Mike Price likely fits the bill too. Not sure which he was talking about, though the Rodriguez thing is more recent.

It runs in your blood since your coach is a big tattletale.

A Done Deal Dies

The news that Les Miles is remaining with LSU is shocking to everybody, even some of his closest friends.

I was on the phone with one of Miles' boys Saturday morning and he was telling me some of the names Miles was bringing to Michigan. He sounded excited as ESPN reported this to be a done deal. The details were exciting and it sounded like Michigan was breaking the mode of Bo Schembechler and Lloyd Carr and doing something that would make this an elite program again.

We hung up and he called me back 15 minutes later and said there has been a major snag. LSU had sweetened the offer and he said that Miles had second thoughts. Money was the major factor but there was something else Miles got a bad vibe about.

He knew he was coming to enemy territory. He feared that he would never be embraced by Carr and that he'd be fighting that the entire time he was here. Miles wanted to retain some of the Michigan assistants because he respects their ability. However, he feared that he could not. They were loyal to Carr and he feared divisions within the program before he even got started.

Michigan was offering good money. It did not match the $3 million he will get at LSU but the Wolverines were willing to go as high as $2.4 million to lure him.

When you heard this was a done deal, trust me it was. But a man is allowed to rethink things and change his mind. Even Miles' closest friends were paving the way for him get relearn the community.

Pretty messed up if true.

Sounds to me like Carr being there was the deciding factor

Probably. He's the crappy gift that keeps on giving.

Or like the Bears a few years ago, when they prematurely announced they were hiring Dave McGinnis as head coach, then he got mad and backed out because they jumped the gun. I believe that was when they ultimately wound up with Jauron.

UCLA boosters have made contact withthese potential Karl Dorrell replacements: Steve Mariucci (ugh), Rick Neuheisel, Mike Leach and Chris Petersen ( :D ). DeWayne Walker is also popular amongst some alums and boosters (ugh). Karl Dorrell hasn't been fired yet.

Wow, that's not a great list. All would be improvements, of course. Why the "ugh" for Mariucci? He is worse than slimy or no-defense?

WCO again, 6-6 at college, will bolt to the NFL after some success. I'd rather have Leach than Mooch but I'm afraid of his defense. Just say no to DeWayne too.

Paul Johnson (Navy) is my #1, then Chris Petersen and Bronco Mendenhall (BYU). I doubt Mooch and Neuheisel (ethical reasons) even interview and Walker would probably be a token minority interview (no HC experience) - these are just the guys boosters are hoping for.

Chris Petersen is an interesting name. I wouldn't mind seeing him get an interview for the Michigan job.
