  1. they rarely ever do. this isn't some sort of anomaly. so lol at you It depends on what site you use. They had 4 4-star recruits using Rivals rankings, 3 4-stars using ESPN, and 0 using 247. It was actually a very solid recruiting class for Iowa relatively speaking.
  2. In 2011, there was a relatively highly rated prospect who was called up to the majors at age 21 who posted the following line: 49 G / 153 PA / 128 AB / 46K / .141 BA /.281 OBP / .242 SLG / .523 OPS He was sent back to AAA to begin the following season, then finished that year in the majors with a line of 87 G / 368 PA / 337 AB / 62K / .285 BA / .342 OBP / .463 SLG / .805 OPS That guy was Anthony Rizzo. Now, I'm not saying Javy is Rizzo, but it just goes to show that baseball is hard, especially at the Major league level. Sometimes guys take awhile to adjust, it takes longer for some than others (sometimes it never happens). From all accounts, Javy is trying to make adjustments. I'm not saying that Javy's contact rate is not cause for concern (it is), but it is not unheard of for extremely talented players to struggle, make adjustments, then succeed. It would probably be wise to exercise a little patience in this instance before rushing to judgment.
  3. Real pumped for today, UNI at Wichita State, follow by Iowa at PSU. Hopefully two wins for my alma maters. If UNI wins, do they move up to 8 or better in the polls? That would be awesome. Still think a 4 seed is their ceiling though due to SOS.
  4. I'm leaning Aroldis as I tend to otherwise go to the scrap heap for saves, plus he can give me 100+ ks from a RP too. Ventura is my number 2, I still have some concerns re his durability, but the stuff is so nasty. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
  5. So, I'm calling on the collective wisdom of NSBB to help me choose my 3rd (of 3) keepers this year. Here's the skinny on my league, it is a 12 team mixed league 6x6 (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP)(K, W, SV, HD, ERA, Whip). We can keep three players two rounds in front of where they were drafted in the prior year (Free Agents can be kept in 15th, then 14th or 13th if keeping more than one free agent). I need to determine who my 3rd keeper should be. My first two keepers are no brainers: Puig in the 18th & Anthony Rendon in the 20th. My remaining options are as follows: Christian Yelich in the 9th Aroldis Chapman in the 12th Garrett Cole in the 13th Hector Rondon in the 15th Yordano Ventura in the 17th Javier Baez in the 19th What should I do?
  6. All I can say is that I'm glad Sneaky isn't the one making personnel decisions for the Cubs.
  7. I think this is a solid return for what we gave up. I would probably slate him somewhere between 20-25 in our system, which is saying something. Our catching depth looks a lot better at the lower levels than it did 6 months ago with Schwarber (possibly), Caratini, Remillard, Zagunis, Contreras, Marra, etc. Hopefully one can turn into a first division type and fill the position cheaply and effectively for several years.
  8. Take that, Orioles. Imagine Bundy and Bosio... I was just going to post that this is why I want Bundy in a Shark deal really bad. No surprise that Raisin beat me to the punch.
  9. Accidental post...
  10. I was born and raised a Hawkeye. Went to UNI for undergrad, and Iowa for law school. Iowa will always be #1 for me and I root for them when they play UNI. However, I root for UNI in everything else. Even had I not attended Iowa, I would be the same way, though.
  11. Homerun Kris Bryant!!!! - 1-3, BB, HR today. Soler 0-2, BB so far.
  12. Him and Zimmer and I'd do the deal yesterday. Yep, me too. Zimmer + Ventura would be alright as well.
  13. I'd take Raul Adalberto Mondesi in a trade with the Royals.
  14. Its completely based on stuff. I actually like Hendricks' chances to be a quality mlb starter better than Cabrera, but in the end, Cabrera's stuff wins out for me in terms of a ranking as his ceiling is higher if he is able to put it all together.
  15. Thanks, I had completely forgotten about Rivero (likely 20-30 range) and Silva (30-40 range), I may need to dit to include those two. Torrez and Leal would be right there in my 40-45, with Marco right behind them.
  16. Here is my top 40 list that I just threw together, seems like a good time of year to update these things.. 1) Javier Baez (BEAST 1.0) 2) Kris Bryant (BEAST 2.0) 3) Albert Almora 4) Jorge Soler (BEAST 3.0) 5) C.J. Edwards (wiry frame be damned) 6) Arismendy Alcantara (tough call on 5-7, could go with any order on these 3) 7) Pierce Johnson 8) Dan Vogelbach (BEAST 4.0) 9) Christian Villanueva 10) Jeimer Candelario (want to see the power develop more) 11) Arodys Vizcaino (if healthy, probably 8) 12)Paul Blackburn 13) Mike Olt (return of eye concerns have me worried, still want to believe, though) 14) Rob Zastryzny 15) Alberto Cabrera 16) Kyle Hendricks 17) Duane Underwood 18) Dillon Maples (I hope what we saw in Boise continues) 19) Neil Ramirez 20) Matt Szczur 21) Shawon Dunston Jr. (love the patience) 22) Corey Black 23) Gioskar Amaya (intrigued by rumblings of trying him at catcher) 24) Ivan Pineyro 25) Juan Carlos Paniagua (hope he puts it together) 26) Yasiel Balaguert (BEAST 5.0??) 27) Ben Wells (love him as a back rotation ground ball innings eater) 28) Jacob Hannemann 29) Zach Rosscup (sexy K/9) 30) Wilson Contreras (best catcher in system..) 31) Eloy Jiminez (pure upside pick here) 32) Gleyber Torres (see #31) 33) Jae-Hoon Ha 34) Logan Watkins 35) Tyler Skulina 36) Josh Vitters 37) Carlos Penalver 38) Brett Jackson 39) Dustin Geiger 40) Trey Masek I was going to stop at 30, but still had guys like Ha and Watkins, plus the new IFAs, so went to 40. This system is so deep, I love it.
  17. Yeah, seriously if Texas wants to pull that, if I'm Theo and Jed, I tell them to get fucked and find another trading partner.
  18. I want Jackson/Edwards/Alfaro. After reading up about Alfaro, he's raw but the potential for something real special at a position of need is there. I found this tidbit in a scouting report on LonestarBall:
  19. Andreoli HR followed by Javywalk!!
  20. Javybomb to straight-away centerfield!!
  21. Didn't Baez go something like 2-2 with two 2B in the All-Star game in this stretch? Though they don't count in his stats.
  22. I'm right there with you. Baez's OPS is actually 6 points higher than Soler's at this moment. Clearly, Soler has shown a better approach and has better peripherals, but I think that can be offset somewhat by their relative defensive values. It seems that Baez's errors have decreased since he started hitting better, maybe he was taking his struggles at the plate out into the field with him? Baez is far from a perfect prospect, but he is still a guy that has the tools to stick at short and huge power. Really though, you can make a case for any of the top 4 to be out #1 prospect, but I would go Soler/Baez (1a/1b), Bryant, Almora, with AA and Pierce holding down the next two spots.
  23. They may be there but only because of signability questions. Perhaps the Zystryznky guy was chosen so that they would have money to make a run at them. They'll have all day tomorrow to negotiate with them... My hope is that they went with Zystrynsky to save some coin on a guy they knew would sign in the second to ensure they wouldn't lose that higher bonus allotment if they go after a tougher sign later. I really want Connor Jones.
