  1. Pie is NOT a leadoff hitter. Soriano will be left there unless the Cubs acquire someone like Brian Roberts (pipedream).
  2. I'm pretty sure he was injured for a portion of 06, and he may have played hurt. Ideally, I would like to see him play SS, but if we were to get him, I bet Jim/Lou will use him like they wanted to use Kaz. With Roberts at SS and leading off (Without giving up Pie), then sign Fukudome, this team would be lethal. Roberts - SS Fukudome - RF DLee - 1B Soriano - LF ARam - 3B Soto - C DeRosa - 2B Pie - CF Pitcher
  3. The thing is that Ferentz is making $3M/year at Iowa, and even with the past two seasons, he's still God in Iowa. Sure there are mumblings about unhappiness with him, due to the last two seasons and the recent off the field issues. However, most Iowa fans are smart enough to not run Ferentz out of town just yet. Hawk fans, including myself, would probably be happy with two new coordinators. With that said, if Ferentz goes to UM...watch out. I don't want to know what that guy would do at a school where he could continually recruit top talent. His main problem at Iowa has been recruiting playmakers on offense. He runs a vanilla offense, but it works when the talent is there, just look at Iowa in 2002. Brad Banks, Fred Russell, Dallas Clark, Robert Gallery, just to name a few guys on that team that ran a simple offense, but was very explosive.
  4. If is just me, or does more young high profile prospects seem to be moving this year than in most? First Delmon Young and Matt Garza, and now Milledge. Plus, it appears that some big names will be involved in Santana or Cabrera deals. This could be a very interesting off-season for teams that are not the Chicago Cubs.
  5. I don't post very often, but in light of us losing out on Kaz, I feel obligated to post a celebatory YAY!!! :D
  6. Obviously, both positions are important defensively. In most cases I would value defense at SS a little more than in CF. Primarily, because there seems to be more of an abundence of decent fielding CF who can at least hit a little. Many times at SS, it seems to be feast or famine, either great defense and no bat, or a good bat and bad defense, except for your rare exceptions such as ARod, Rollins, ...Jeter. Also, I feel that while CF is a tough position to field, I do not believe it is the toughest OF spot to play at Wrigley. That honor would go to RF, due to the contours of the wall and whatnot. That being said, I would like to sign Fukudome for RF, put Pie in CF, and somehow still get Murton a decent number of AB's against LHP. I would also like us to bring in a better bat at SS, but I just don't see that happening.
  7. How is Damon Berryhill not included here?!?!
  8. Sorry to digress, but I'm feeling the need to dream right now. Step 1: pony up and sign ARod for some ridiculous contract that in all liklihood will hamstring the Cubs for years to come. Step 2: Trade Marshall and Gallagher for Bedard. It may take more and Baltimore would probably ask for Hill, but then again MacPhail seems to over value Cubs players/prospects as much as the Cubs do themselves. Step 3: Trade Jacque to save a little cash, though keeping him and platooning him with Murton in RF or as insurance for Pie wouldn't be a bad idea. Lineup: Soriano - LF DeRose - 2B DLee - 1B ARod - SS Aram - 3B Soto - C Murton - RF Pie - CF Pitcher Rotation: Zambrano Bedard Lilly Hill Marquis That team would win 95+ games if healthy, and that's without the possibility of Prior returning to form. Now back to reality, and the disapointment that is sure to ensue.
