  1. I was just thinking, wouldn't Patterson make a good platoon partner with Pie against tough lefties... Then I realized Patterson hits LH, too.
  2. Maybe we can teach Willits to play SS...
  3. Yeah, because conventional thinking always holds true over time... Many times, it is those within the insitution that needs change that realize is last.
  4. I'll take a Marquis for Sean Rodriguez trade with Anaheim please.
  5. I try to discover A little something to make me sweeter Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue That you give me no reason Why you're making me work so hard That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby please give a little respect to me I love that song! This thread never ceases to amaze me.
  6. From Jim Callis at BA: Do you think that Beckham will stick at SS? This logic that Callis is using would work if Beckham could stay at SS but don't a lot of guys like that get moved anyways? So, if he does get moved, will he still be a better player than Alvarez? Everything I've read so far seems to assume Beckham will stick at SS. He's been compared to Justin Upton with better hands defensively at the same age. I don't think his bat is as highly regarded at Upton's, but his arm strength and range appear to be comparable. Whether he will be a better player than Alvarez is a completely different question. I think Ping is much more qualified to answer that question.
  7. What if a trade happens, but then doesn't actually happen, then it is close, then it happens again, but doesn't happen again... Will it still be locked?!?! :stickman:
  8. Can we change the title to: Roberts: Thread finally makes it to 200 pages!!!
  9. Carlos Guillen is no longer a SS. ...and Tejada shouldn't be. However, he still is, so this post was probably just a waste of space.
  10. And Greene's power and top shelf defense wouldn't make our team better? Can you explain why youd rather have: Below Average at position offense/Adequate defense at SS with Good offense and above average D at 2B vs. Above average at position offense/Very Good defense at SS with Good offense and average D at 2B? How are you judging below average and above average? I'll turn to fantasy baseball because they take into account every hit and aspect to a players offensive game. I would say both players are average to below average at their position offensively. The only think Greene brings is power. Whereas Theriot brings speed. Plus Greene has better defense. Yes, Greene brings a similar OBP, significantly better SLG, and significantly better defense. Thus making him a much more valuable player. The fact is, Greene is a bigger upgrade from Theriot than Roberts is from DeRosa.
  11. The bolded is a load of crap and does not meaningfully contribute to this discussion in any way. x2
  12. You should care, because the argument you are trying to make is inherently flawed. Is there a correlation between Soriano's stats being better when batting leadoff, and worse when hitting in the middle of the order, yes. I would argue that it is a strong correlation, too. However, just because there is a correlation, doesn't mean that batting leadoff caused Soriano to have better stats in that role, or that batting in the middle of the order caused him to have worse stats. Is there a chance that it did, maybe, but it has not been proven. Several other factors could and probably do factor into these statistical differences. Therefore, correlation does not imply causation. That being said, I have no problem with Soriano batting leadoff.
  13. Looking at the first month of the schedule, I will predict that the Cubs will be 17-10 on May 1st.
  14. I found this article from the New York Times today. It's a pretty good read, and it seems that Fukudome is a smart hitter. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/sports/baseball/12cubs.html
  15. I think most of us would be thilled to have the likes of BigBird or Peace21 on our site with information about the Cubs. Sure they haven't always been right, but they have several times...see Tejada as just one example. They are just posting what they've heard, which is probably a lot more than those of you who are bashing them. If you don't want to believe them fine, I don't care.
  16. I'd take my chances, this organization needs a SS. Nothing ventured, nothing changed. If the guys ends up being hald of what A-Rod is, it would be worth the investment.
  17. If Zook manages to pull Harper to Illinois I'd be blown away. He visited Illinois early before any other school, but he's also visited Miami and Florida State. His scouting report: He runs a 4.35 40! I'd call that blazing speed. I can't wait until Wednesday to see what he decides. He'd get every opportunity to play right away at Illinois. That's got to be a big plus to Zook's pitch. While I would love to see Harper at FSU, IMO he's headed to Clemson. Or at least that's what I've heard from my sources at FSU. I know Clemson is a big player too. Honestly, I think he'll go to Illinois or Clemson. I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else. I'm crossing my fingers for Illinois. That would cap another great year recruiting for Zook. two words that iowa fans will know: jason ford. he's not as highly rated as harper, but imo, he's just as good, thicker and just as fast. oh, and the illini get liuget!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take that lsu. Yes, Jason Ford could be very good, but I highly doubt he will be as good as Harper.
  18. I just remembered this prediction Tim made back at the end of October in the thread about ARod opting out... boy was he wrong! But hey, don't worry Tim, I don't think anyone saw this behemouth coming....
  19. I think this thred's title should be changed to Angelos is an idiot...and out of contol.
  20. But Fuku hits lefthanded...
  21. If Fukudome puts up anywhere near a 900 OPS this year, I will be estatic.
  22. I don't see how pretty much naming him the opening day starting CF at 23 years old is making it seem like they don't like him.
  23. Probably the most amazing thing about this thread it that it is approximately 7800 views away from having 100,000 views. I think we should strive for 200 pages and 200,000 views.
  24. Someone needs update the figures with Lieber and and the new Wuertz number included.
