it sucks that hendry couldn't deal Dempster to the Tigers in this trade. Hendry saved three million dollars in this deal and created room in the outfield for Fukodome. A fews years back this board was high on Infante , he's a guy that can play all over the diamond and has some speed and power. Huge upgrade of Fontento. Hopefully Hendry can find ways to continue to shed payroll by punching a ticket of town for Dempster,Ohman,Marquis, to get us in line to make some impact moves.

I hope you're right, but I still want to see the fine print on whether or not we sent any cash to Detroit along with Jock.

There is no doubt in my mind Hendry has a big trade lined up. He's putting together pieces and something big will happen.

Tejada AND Brian Roberts? Send them Cedeno, Marshall, Infante, and Gallagher?

What was Roberts like in the minors? He kind of scares me because of the thread of Roids as does Tejada.

Not sure. He's never been a huge power guy (18 is is career high), but has a very solid OBP...in a lot of respects he's just a little more powerful, little more expensive, Mark DeRosa....

When this guy was still considered a top prospect in Detroit I think he had a run in with then manager Alan Trammel . Maybe Trammel knows this kid has some talent and is just looking for the place to put it all together.

Didn't we save five million dollars, not three million dollars?

No. The crappy Omar Infante will probably get 2m in arby.

My bad.

And what I don't think anyone has mentioned is that Infante, as bad as he is, might be better than Theriot. Any chance he's our starting shortstop next year?

I would hope he or Ronny can beat out Theriot.

He might be better than Theriot, but is he that much better than Theriot to warrent the money? Is he any better than Cedeno? Will he be any better than PIe in CF?

I don't know what the Cubs plans are, but I hope they get their "ducks" lined up in the right order. It seems to me that if they trade JJ they will have a glut of middle infielders with little to no trade value. And will be banking on Pie sticking in CF if they don't get Fukudome. Even if they get Fukudome they still will need to do something with RF as I don't think Murton is in Lou's plans.

It will be interesing to see how this offseason plays out.

I think that fans should have veto power in all trades. I think that every team in every sport should have a group of 100,000 fans that vote on all trades, big and small. For each trade, 5,000 of these fans get randomly selected to vote on a trade. If both team's fans vote no on a trade, it should not occur.

This is hilarious. For two years now, most of NSBB has been slamming Jacque and wanting him ran out of town at any cost. And for awhile, you couldn't go 5 posts without someone bitching about Felix Pie's lack of playing time. So Hendry (apparently) finds a taker for Jacque, and even manages to free up 3 million dollars in the process. NSBB's reaction? Hatred of the move, of course.

Get a grip, people. The player who you have wanted gone for two years is about to be gone. The golden boy Felix Pie appears to be the frontrunner for the CF position at this point. What more do you want? Stop complaining.

Times change and with every year off of his contract he is that much more attractive as a player. It is why Hendry was able to deal him. I think we all hope Pie will be able to make it.

NSBB is not one person with a singular opinion.

I was one of the most anti-Jones people here, but I didn't want him gone "at any cost."

This deal doesn't improve the team. It puts them in a slightly better financial position, but it may preclude them from improving the one position that had next to no hope of even looking average next year.

I'm not sure you're ever going to be people happy to see another mediocre middle infielder acquired.

What more do you want?

I want actual good baseball players to play for the Cubs, enough so that the team can win 95-100 games and realistically contend for the world series. What I don't want is a GM who is given a ton of money to spend but only comes up with mediocrity, at best.

people will complain if they want.

also, i'm not as upset about losing jones as i am infante taking up a spot on the roster. it's like the maddux deal...getting rid of a guy i have no problem with getting rid of, but getting worse roster filler in return. i would have preferred just trading jones for a C+ prospect and eating half the $.

FYI: Fukudome can play centerfield.
But will the Cubs acquire him? On a side note, I think this all but rules out k. Matsui, no?

One would hope.

Now that is a scary idea. You would have a stalemate because one group of fans wouldn't like the deal. What if the vote was 2501 - 2499? As others have pointed out, you can't decide if this is a good deal unless you know what other transactions are planned. If the Cubs sign Fukudome (using some of Jones's money) and make a deal for to upgrade at SS usng Cedeno or Theriot as trade bait, suddenly you have an upgrade at SS and RF with a decent utility man (Infante).

It's called critical thinking. Jones' contract isn't as bad now that it's only 1 year, and the player we're getting back is pretty terrible. This isn't a good deal.

Moves don't happen in a vacuum. That's why people aren't thrilled.

It would stand to reason that this is true, but I still have a bad feeling.
