That is completely understandable about the money. I'm fine with that.

I think you and I were high on Infante when I first started posting here.

good news, we're one step closer to hendry's dream of a lineup in which we have 8 players that can be randomly assigned to any position in the field.

So, the question is: Was this trade made to

1. Save money and clear space in the OF for Fukadome?

2. Aquire Infante to be a piece in a bigger trade

3. Play Infante at SS and have Theriot as a super utility guy

4. Because this is Hendry being Hendry

Guys, we freed up like $2M, we aren't talking about a ton of money here.

Maybe we can sign Glendon Rusch to a 1-year deal now.

Opening Day 2008:

1. Soriano LF

2. Matsui 2B

3. Lee 1B

4. Luis Gonzalez RF

5. Ramirez 3B

6. Kendall C

7. Infante SS

8. Pie CF

Bench

1. Blanco

2. Theriot

3. Fontenot

4. Pagan

5. Ward

You must be kidding me with that line up. Luis Gonzalez in right is a huge down grade defensively. He could barely play left field this year how is he going to play right for us next year? And even if we were to sign kendall, which we wont, it would be as a back up. Soto starts the season for sure. And what happened to DeRosa did he disappear?

anyways this isnt a bad trade but being a realist I dont see much more beyond us signing Fukudome. Its nice to dream about multiple trades but they usually dont happen. If anything it might open up a trade for cedeno which wont net all that much in return.

5. hopefully all the above. I can't imagine that those 17 rbi's and 271 avg. was the fuel for the deal

Good Luck Jacque you were a nice guy, but you know what Leo the Lip use to say about nice guys.

I was trying to figure out what kind of package we could put together to get him when Nomar went down in '05.

I was high on him at that time. He's plateaued since then, though.

For about $2M the Tigers converted a utility player into a starting OF. IMO this deal helps the Tigers a lot more than the Cubs.

Where do you get the two million from? Jacque was scheduled to make 5.5 (and a bonus which the Cubs are paying). Infante made 1.5 million last year.

Where is everyone coming up with $2MM?

Jones contract was approx. $5.5MM + $1MM bonus

Infante's contract in 06 was $1.3MM

Even assuming Infante got a raise to $2MM, the Cubs still save approx. $3.5MM in salary.

Well, based on his season, I don't see Infante getting much more than $1.5M in arby. Jones was due $5.5 + signing bonus and we're apparently only paying for the signing bonus.

So it seems we're saving $4M to me.

If the suggestion that Hendry is paying only Jacque's signing bonus, the savings are closer to $3.5.

Infante's not winning $2.0 in arbitration. Punch Drunk may wind up giving it to him, but an arbiter won't.

$6.33 (Jacque) - $1.33 (payment to Detroit) - $1.5 (Infante) = $3.5

Yeah but is he a good starting OF'er?

btw - I still would prefer to have received a couple B prospects.

Jones' power is in the gaps. Good luck with that in Detroit.

RF isnt so bad if you yank it but thats not Jones and LCF is going to be a lot harder for him to reach than WF's bleachers.

Not a real fan of this trade but at least this go around he saved more money than before.
