    Sheets is smart to wait this out a bit. If Pettitte decides to be an idiot and leave the Yankees, they they will jump back into the Sheets negotiations and the price will skyrocket.

    I would have preferred 2-3 years of Sheets over 5 of Burnett.

    I think that Sanchez will start out the year in SWB, but could be part of the bullpen "rotation" at some point during the year. I am actually looking forward to seeing him in action this spring.

    Absolutely. And what's scary, even with CC and AJ on board, the Yankees rotation is arguably the 3rd best rotation in the AL East. How about the bullpen? Their pen other than Chamberlain was pretty bad last season. Any of you guys see any real viable options here other than Marte and Rivera? And maybe Hughes? Once they got rid of Hawkins and Farnsworth-less, the Yankee bullpen was fine. A little over used and tired, but fine. We have several good young arms in our pen.

    The only problem I have here is those last 2 years, they are simply death. I hope they front loaded the contract, or at least made is 16.5 each year. Once the word got out that ATL was offering 5 years, I really wanted the Yankees to turn towards Sheets. I really thought Cashman had us heading toward 185 million in payroll and being close to the threshhold after next season. I guess 3rd place killed the youth movement. Yankees are looking at 197 million (after the asinine Cameron trade is completed.) and very little chance of winning a World Series (in my eyes). Hughes is not out of options and should start the season in SWB. Cashman has repeatedly said he has no desire to trade Hughes. But he also said that the Yankees were not going to spend as much as they did last off-season. So who knows what will come out of this organization next?

    C.C.'s friend. Yanks need a CF. Overpaid for suckage. How ccoming? Perfect fit. Now if only he can get suspended again.

    why is it a sad sad day? of course they overpaid for him, but he's really good, durable (so far) and the yankees have a practically unlimited pay potential. Overpaying for him does not really change our immediate future all that much. While he has been durable, I also see the last 3 years (and 69 million) becoming a hindrance to any flexibility we could have gained in this offseason.

    It is a sad, sad day. My only hope is he hates NYC so much he uses that opt out.

    I have a pretty good feeling you are stuck with Marquis until you decide to eat more than 4 million of his contract! If the Cubs eat more of teh contract it sort of defeats the purpose of getting rid of him.

    But if you don't tell your kid that santa exists in the first place, they can't have their beliefs crushed. However, I now he would learn of santa at school, which is why I'd tell him somethink along the lines of "Most kids at school believe in a man who brings you presents at Christmas. That's ridiculous, don't believe them." Most hilarity would ensue when my kid would tell those kids santa doesn't exist and I get angry calls from parents and teachers. :shock: You are something.
