Does this concern anyone? I took it from a Diamondbacks message board:

The Cubs do have some offensive talent, no question. But, they do come from the NL Central. 16 games vs Houston, 18 vs Cincy, 16 vs St Louis, 15 vs Pittsburgh, and 15 vs Milwaukee. They went 17-18 within their division in the 1st half and 28-15 in the 2nd half within their division.

If you remove their division games from their 2nd half record of 41-34, you're left with a team that played 13-19 ball outside of their division in the 2nd half of the season. Throw out the 5-2 they went against SF in the 2nd half and this number shrinks to a dismal 8-17.

Out of curiosity, how many of those non-division second half games came while Soriano was hurt?

7 of those 25 games cited, in which the Cubs were 3-4.

Yeah, well if the Diamondbacks would have lost all the games they won, they would have been 0-162. It would have been the worst season in sports history.

EDIT: I think a better stat would be: If you took out all the Diamondbacks wins, they would have been 0-72...which is pitiful.

If you take out all the innings this year that Brandon Webb didn't give up runs, he would've given up runs in every single inning he pitched. Sooo overrated.

If one looks hard enough these kind of arguments can be made to make almost any team look bad. What of the might Diamondbacks? Remove their 24-9 record vs the NL East and they don't sniff the playoffs.

Thing is, the East is actually a really solid division, 3 teams over .500, two close to 20. Big difference compared to the Central.

Help!!! wifes birthday is on Wednesday, is it proper to take her out to a sports bar with a TV

order a pizza and tell her the Cubs are more important, seems flawless to me.

I think she already thinks that I love the Cubs more, and that only partially true. I just love them more during playoffs

I started dating my girlfriend toward the beginning of the season, and I made sure to train her right. Her birthday started on June 22nd, and hindsight afforded me the opportunity to point out that the Cubs decided to start a 7-game winning streak for her birthday, thanks to me being able to follow all those games for her.

So she gave up and decided to develop crushes on Riot and Howry instead.

When I started going out with my girlfriend in January, I showed her Fever Pitch (mind you I left the room and did other things while she was watching it) and at the end explained to her that I am the Cubs fan version of this and that if she dates me she has to realize that I am going to be like this for most of the Spring-Fall. There have been a few testy moments where I can tell that she is thinking "What did I get myself into"..but overall its gone over well.

The only reason I didn't think that movie completely sucked was because I felt like I could relate to it so well.

Now I just need season tickets...

If she loves you she would be fine with a Sports Bar with a TV. It's just a birthday. They happen every year. Cubs playoffs don't.

Waiting is killing me too. So much so, I developed linecode predictions for all games in the series to pass time. Here is what I got:

Game 1:
CHC 001 100 100 - 3 WP: Pena (1-0) HR: None
ARI 100 100 002 - 4 LP: Dempster (0-1) HR: Young (1)

Game 2:
CHC 200 100 300 - 6 WP: Lilly (1-0) S: Howry (1) HR: Ramirez 2 (2)
ARI 101 001 000 - 3 LP: Davis (0-1) HR: Drew (1)

Game 3:
ARI 004 100 100 - 6 WP: Hill (1-0) S: Howry (2) HR: Soriano (1), Floyd (1)
CHC 120 220 00x - 7 LP: Hernandez (0-1) HR: Byrnes (1), Young (2)

Game 4:
ARI 300 001 000 0 - 4 F/ WP: Wood (1-0) HR: DeRosa (1), Ward (1)
CHC 000 020 110 1 - 5 10 LP: Valverde (0-1) HR: None

That's...oddly specific.

I know, I'm a dork. But what am I supposed to do at work? My job?

As you can see, Dempster blows game 1 and Lou short on patience, puts Howry as the closer. The fans freak out because the least winnable game of the series on paper was blown by Dempster.

The Cubs win game 2 fairly easily on the strength of 2 Aramis HRs (a 2 run shot in the first and a 3 run shot in the 7th). Howry gets the save

The series shifts to Wrigley and the wind is blowing out. Rich Hill is shakey the first few innings but gets through unscathed. Cubs jump out to a quick lead with a leadoff HR by Sori and a couple of run scoring singles on Livan. Overall Livan is always in trouble. Hill explodes in the 3rd and 4th, but Lou keeps him in long ehough for the Cubs to get the win.

Game 4 starts out poorly when Zambrano, on short rest is wild and erratic in the first inning, giving up 3 runs. The Cubs claw back to tie it on the DBacks vaunted bullpen in the 8th and in the 10th, Daryle Ward wins it with a series walkoff HR. Wrigley goes nuts and the Cubs advance.

Wow. If even one of those comes close to being true, then you should play PowerBall ASAP.

My line-up:

Soriano

Floyd

Lee

Ramirez

Derosa

Soto

Jones

Theriot (if his back is better)/Cedeno

Z

Lou's likely:

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Floyd

Ramirez

Derosa

Jones

Kendall

Z

I like your idea of hitting Floyd second. The guy had a ton of good ABs in September and was the teams second most patient hitter in September.

I think I pretty much found the perfect women. She's obsessed with the Cubs too and has no problem with watching the games with me. She loves going to Wrigley, and basically said if I wanted to we could spend the money to get tickets to all the playoff games if we can't get them on cubs.com.
