Hey, Murton and Soto on the team for sure is nice to know at least.

So far we know:

1. Zambrano

2. Lilly

3. Hill

4. Dempster

5. Howry

6. Marmol

7. Wood

8. Eyre

9. Wuertz

10. Soriano

11. Lee

12. Ramirez

13. DeRosa

14. Theriot

15. Jones

16. Floyd

17. Murton

18. Kendall

19. Soto

20. Ward

Got to figure at least one more, if not two more pitchers (Marquis/Hart/Marshall), and at least one backup infielder (Fontenot/Cedeno), and another backup OF (Pie/Monroe/Fuld?)

I think Marquis and Pie are in for sure. I still think Hart has the edge over Marshall (and Ohman). I hope Lou does the right thing and take Ronny. He's been out-hitting Fontenot (and Theriot, heh) in September and he gives the Cubs an actual backup SS. But Lou seems to have Fontenot much higher on the PH depth chart than I would, so I don't know.

I figure Pie should be in. I keep hoping Marquis is left off in favor of an additional lefty (Marshall/Ohman), and Lou seems to have taken a liking to Hart.

If I had to guess the last 5 at this point, I'd probably go Marquis, Hart, Fontenot, Cedeno, Pie.

If I got to pick the last 5, I'd go Marshall, Hart, Pie, Cedeno, Fontenot.

I understand Marquis has been bad the second half but he's the Cubs best option for a 4th starter (assuming Marshall is hurt, in the witness protection program, etc.) and I'm not a fan of going with Z on 3-days rest unless forced to.

Go go Cubs sweep!

Oh, and LOL at Hart's ERA+

Webb-attack the 1st pitch, it's likely the only FB you'll see that is a strike and his goal is to get ahead early on climb down the ladder with the FB making you ground out or K.

I have a feeling Monroe will make it over Cedeno.

I still think monroe is going to be on the roster, meaning only 2 of cedeno/fontenot/pie

I don't see any way that Pie doesn't make the postseason roster. There is a need for a pinch runner, defensive replacement. Lou won't want Daryle Ward running the bases in the 8th, and he won't want Murton or Floyd in RF in the 9th.

Fuld has been designated to the Fall League, but apparently told to stay sharp in case of an injury and us needing some speed. That's according to the Sun-Times. (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/582067,CST-SPT-cubnt01.article)

Some interesting quotes...

Manager Lou Piniella wasn't happy with Marquis' ugly tune-up Sunday -- four runs in two-thirds of an inning -- but Piniella said that outing doesn't concern him.

The Cubs got their traveling squad down to 31 players when they assigned pitcher Sean Gallagher and outfielder Sam Fuld to the Arizona Fall League and told left-hander Carmen Pignatiello he wouldn't be in the playoff traveling group. Assistant general manager Randy Bush said he told Fuld to stay sharp in case the Cubs have an injury and need another speed guy on the bench.

Ward's only contact was a foul ball before he struck out swinging at an eye-level pitch, but he said he expects to be fine for Wednesday. Piniella said he likely won't make a decision on Ward until he gets a full round of batting practice Tuesday.

how can lou be unhappy with marquis' performance(s), yet unconcerned? Don't they go hand-in-hand? Everything else seems about right though. Kinda surprised that Fuld, who was an underdog to even be called up in the first place, seems to be the first go to guy in an OF emergency. Guess there are no other options at this point.

Exactly. Pie will make the roster for those reasons.

I can't wait for Wednesday to get here.

I think the only way Fuld gets back on the roster due to an injury is if Pie gets hurt.

I sincerely hope Ward will be ready to go. The Cubs absolutely need his bat in the division series. Thankfully IIRC the Diamondbacks don't have too many left-handers down there that could nullify him in the late innings.

I think they are taking the not happy part by Piniella's actions during the game and how upset he was. By the time he was quoted, his quote was that he was unconcerned.

I have the same feeling, and it pissees me off.

If Monroe isn't the starting CF v. LHP, he's pointless.

Definitely agree on that. If you're not starting him, the only situation I can think of where he would play is if the left-handed starter for Arizona is still in and the Cubs need a pinch-hitter. If that happens, Cedeno can fill in and Cedeno's versatility otherwise is worth a lot more than that one specific situation.

Couple of interesting things in this article:

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070930cubsgamer,1,4930373.story?coll=cs-home-headlines

Piniella wouldn't reveal his 25-man roster but said he'd stick with Jacque Jones in center field against both left-handers and right-handers and would platoon Cliff Floyd and Matt Murton in right.

Piniella also said he'd bat shortstop Ryan Theriot second. He would not say which catcher, Geovany Soto or Jason Kendall, would get the bulk of the playing time. Piniella said it would depend on "the speed of the team" the Cubs play.

Are you serious? Theriot sucks at 2nd in the order

Theriot was just on with Silvy and Waddle and said that he doesn't know where Lou will bat him, but expects to hit 8th since that seemed to work lately.

Guess Lou hasn't told him yet.

He can be unhappy with his most recent performance because it was bad but unconcerned because Marquis won't be coming out of the pen in the playoffs.

All right Cubbies...need to take one of these on the road. I am fortunate enough to have tickets to the Saturday game in Wrigley; I'd LOVE to see that be the series ender for a Cubs march on to the NLCS! :D

I guess MLB said that they won't announce playoff times until at least Noon Eastern tomorrow.

They're going to wait til the day before the game to announce the gametime? That's pretty stupid. Don't they realize that people have to plan their schedules around the game? One day's notice is going to make it tough for some people.

somehow I doubt they'll have a problem getting the seats filled

Sucks that these games are on TBS (for obvious HD reasons).

Do we know when they are going to announce the time of the game?

tbs has hd... check with your service provider

Yep. DirecTV picked it up last week. I think Comcast is getting it in the next couple days.

My buddy has Dish Network...not sure if he's gonna have it.
