I'm leaving work early to catch the start of this bad boy. It's been 4 years since I watched a Cubs playoff game - I'll fake being dead to see this one if I have to.

Tuesday: No class

Wednesday: No class

T-minus 45 hours until the first pitch.
Such a long time...

:willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly:

I'm going to lose my mind waiting around for this thing to start.

No kidding. At least I have class all day tomorrow and Wednesday to help ease some of the tension.

You're lucky. Seven hours of foreign language class each of the next two days actually had me rooting for day games to keep me occupied during the afternoons. Wednesday night feels a week away.

Eww, that sucks.

Tues:

Oral Expression: 9am - 11:50am

Intro To Journalism: 12:30pm - 3:20pm

Wednesday:

New Millennium Studies: 10:30am - 11:50am

College Mathematics: 12:30pm - 3:20pm

Wednesday is going to be pure hell. NMS is the most worthless class on the entire planet. It has absolutely no purpose. And I really do mean that. And college mathematics...3 hours of math that I did my freshman year in high school.

I beg to differ. University 101 is the most worthless class ever. That class accomplishes absolutely nothing.

I already had my first class today. I have another class from 8:30 to 9:45 and one more from 11:30 to 12:45. Tomorrow, I have a class from 10:00 to 10:50 that always gets done early and a class from 12:00 to 12:50.

who cares, you can always get a new wife -- what are the odds the Cubs will make the playoffs again?

Take her out tonight! Tell her it is so important to you that you can't wait another day to celebrate. It might work....

Cubs are a lock to reach the WS !! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

I think the Braves probably had a heck of a lot more postseason experience than the Cubs in 2003, and look how that turned out.

Oh I agree, I am not using that evidence as reasons the Cubs are going to win. I just thought it was funny to point out how wacky the NL is

New Millennium Studies = University 101, essentially. If i'm right in assuming that University 101 is the basic "freshman must take this class that teaches you how to be a college student" class.

Which just goes even further in showing how pointless it is because....What the hell does "new millennium studies" have to do with a freshman intro class.

Furthermore, we've read two books so far that have NOTHING to do with each other. One was "persepolis," basically this giant comic book about the Iranian revolution, then "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream"...which makes perfect sense in a class called "NEW MILLENIUM studies" to read a play from 16-soap-dropping-hundred.

Honestly, every day I go into that class we just sit there and the teacher drones on endlessly about things that are in no way related to anything we've read.

/end rant

The first one is amazing and I don't think could be any more relevant right now.

Does this concern anyone? I took it from a Diamondbacks message board:

The Cubs do have some offensive talent, no question. But, they do come from the NL Central. 16 games vs Houston, 18 vs Cincy, 16 vs St Louis, 15 vs Pittsburgh, and 15 vs Milwaukee. They went 17-18 within their division in the 1st half and 28-15 in the 2nd half within their division.

If you remove their division games from their 2nd half record of 41-34, you're left with a team that played 13-19 ball outside of their division in the 2nd half of the season. Throw out the 5-2 they went against SF in the 2nd half and this number shrinks to a dismal 8-17.

If any of those statistics somehow makes it less likely that we can beat Arizona 3 out of the next 5, then it does. But, luckily for us, I don't believe playoff series are decided by who played better outside their division in one half of the season.

This is a prime example of statistical cherry-picking.

Out of curiosity, how many of those non-division second half games came while Soriano was hurt?

If one looks hard enough these kind of arguments can be made to make almost any team look bad. What of the might Diamondbacks? Remove their 24-9 record vs the NL East and they don't sniff the playoffs.

Yep. I still maintain the Cubs are more talented and that the DBacks are a statistical anomoly, but the fact that the Cubs don't perform well against strangers and that the DBacks always seem to win could very well be a big problem. Nothing about these five games needs to make statistical sense, and the Cubs are good at being the wrong kind of exception.
